Different backgrounds.
He likely grew around people who would salute someone for getting ass whooped by the biggest bully on the block so long as they stepped up to the plate. In the early stages of his career, it probably was about him proving that he was the little guy willing to step up the plate.
Reality kicks in. He'd see the disrespect and now it is about maximising the $s.
Nobody's saying he's p4p of belongs in the HOF. Yes, his best opponent was Canelo, who KTFO him. But look at his resume, esp. early in his career.
I mean, he went to war w/ Chino and not only survived, he WON -- even got Chino's respect with that sick body shot. That's when I really began to respect Khan. Got screwed in the LPete fight. Was boxing DSG well, but fell into trading and KTFO. Add dudes like Kotelnik, Collazo, Devon Alexander. He has had a good career, with a lot of good fighters on his resume. No reason not to respect Khan.
He fought a lot of good boxers.
Hated outside of the ring
Its hard to say why he is so hated.
I do think part of it is bigotry. Of course a Pakistani Muslim will face some bigotry.
But he really is a bit of a tool outside of the ring. This whole drama with his wife & family is comedy. What I find ridiculous is that he even professes to be a devout religious person. Everyone knows he's a big cuz hound (which I completely respect).
Also you can choose to (pretend to be) devout or you can choose to marry an Instragram model. You cant really do both.
I for one find all the outside the ring issues to be very amusing and nothing to be really concerned about -- it doesn't impact my respect for him in the ring -- but I understand many dislike him for it.
Could be both
You can be both brave & stupid.
Honestly, I respect Khan a lot for making a lot of fights, esp early in his career (true, he has become very selective lately)
But he is also brave (or stupid) in the ring. I appreciate that he is willing to mix it up with opponents. It makes for fun fights.
But with his glass chin, he really should fight like Rigo does. He has the range & fast feet and hands to do it. And it sometimes looks like he tries to fight rangy here and there -- but he always gets sucked into trading.
Anyways, I appreciate that Khan has given us a lot of exciting fights. I thought he got screwed in the LPete fight, by the ref first & then the judges, but oh well.
Would like to see him fight Brook. Or Spence. He wont get a big Canelo payday again, so he should get back at it at WW.
brave. makes me laugh, people moan about fighters not fighting good opponents, khan does it yet hes one of the most vilified boxers on here.
That's not why he's vilified though lol. He's an idiot. He fights the best and has heart but the words that come out of his mouth are why people don't like him.
Both. The Canelo fight was a bad move. He looks great in spota and has some talent, his hands are lightning fast. I can't blame him for believing in himself.
He used to be brave until Garcia KOed him almost 5 years ago. Since then under Hunter he has only had 6 fights. Some of those fights were against guys who were not in his class or considered much of a threat to him. Only Canelo could be called a very dangerous fight for him and he was extremely well paid for that fight. I'll wait to see who he fights next to see if he is still brave.
If someone offered you millions to get knocked out, would you take it? Would that be brave of you?
This
if he was brave he would have fought Brook ages ago
Amir Khan is from a dying breed. He refused to turn pro to wait one more year to reface the cuban who beat him! Khan is all heart! #RESPECT!
*cough* prescott *cough* kell brook* cough* you were saying?

Both, in his mind he truly believes in himself and isn't scared to go out there and fight anyone.
Kahn should be praised much more than he is for his willingess to sign contracts vs basically anyone.
He can be dumb sometimes, why fight Lamont pederson in the guys hometown? He should be getting credit for going into his mandatory hometown but not on here. It's only now that he is looking out for his career, he should never have offered to fight Bradley when Timmie was telling him to stop running out there. Let them claim you are ducking...
