I used to dislike Ward's style, but he grew on me over the years. He clinches/fouls much less these days. Plus, his skills can't be denied. I love his body work, amazing and vicious.
Ward vs Froch was a great fight. People who don't enjoy Ward usually don't know sh1t about boxing.
Kov vs Ward was definitely top 5.
I know about boxing and I don't find the jab with clinch style as entertaining and as true boxing skills.
yes, he beat the hell out of dawson and I learned a few tricks from that fight that I used in sparring until this day...im a boxing fan and I find boxing very interesting and learn particular things from particular fighters, its exciting to me. maybe ward isn't your cup of tea. that's okay as well but let me be. ur just a fan of particular fighters, im a fan of the sport and don't waste all my life tearing down those who have styles I don't like much because I understand how hard It is to even be a C level fighter in such a sport. He was impressive in that fight and it was a good fight to watch. It was probably too one sided to be considered a fight of the year.
It was a high level tactical fight, very tense, you could feel it through the screen
But it didnt have enough blood and guts action to be a FOTY.
Thats not a knock. Alot of FOTY feature boxers with more guts than skill. Gatti, for example was in MANY FOTY, but nobody would mistake him for an elite fighter.
Meanwhile, dudes like Money, BHop, Finito Lopez were the best of their era, but never really were in FOTY.
Who cares? Fight of the year has become a consolation prize for fighters that aren't good enough to be champions and pound for pound kings.
It's less relevant than the WBC silver belt. In the rare instance an elite fighter is involved in a fight of the year, I bet he breaks up buds on whatever hardware he received for it.
think of floyd's best fight as a WW, maidana 1. why was that such an amazing fight? because floyd was such a great boxer, or because maidana knew how to manipulate space and make him uncomfortable and force him to fight?
Great comparison.
It wasn't my fight of the year, but I enjoyed Ward-Kovalev. We never seen Ward get hit that much and really pushed to the limit. We're so used to seeing Ward in complete control over his opponent, but Kovalev refused to let that happen.
We can argue who we thought won, it's a shame that some people can never be satisfied. Probably just bitter that Ward got the nod.
If they have their rematch in Vegas or California, I might go this time.
If you were there, how come you didn't log on after the fight and start complaining about the scores and Max?
:lol1: Or stream it while watching it live.

come on man the fight sucked. Its only boxing hipsters trying to make out the fight was good. There was barely a solid shot landed in the last half of the fight and a lot of the rounds just blended into each other. The atmosphere sounded dead on TV, was no action to get people out of there seats for most of it/ Degale v jack the other week was what i call a top fight. 10x more entertainig than ward kovalev

the inferiority complex is for real! your vag is clearly going to stay bleeding for f#cking years.
i heard a lot of intelligent boxing people giving a sound evaluation of how "good" the kovalev fight was. the two best fighters of the same size fought in or around their primes. there were swings in momentum, a knockdown, controversial, razor thin scoring. the building was insane. i was there.
i have no issues with somebody calling it one of the best fights of the year in that regard. ward's fought the best fighter in his division several times. froch and kessler weren't good enough to make a fight of it. not worth complaining about it and acting like that is ward's fault. they didn't have boxing skills, punching power, or a jab like kovalev's, and never got going.

If so which one(s)?
Bat, don't let these retards pollute your mind.
No he hasn't been but that's because he usually wins clearly over his comp.
Its like giving uconn's women's hoops team grief for beating all their opponents by 10 plus pts.
Ward has pillow fists
So no, he's not gonna be in a FOTY. That would be bad strategy on his part. He has good boxing skills, good "spoiling" skills, but ZERO power. Why would he ever want to go toe to toe with anyone.
I dont fault Ward for the lack of good action in his fights. I understand its one of the reasons hes not popular. His fights arent fun.
But I respect his ability (even tho I thought Kova won). He's a top 5 p4p boxer.
