Eubank's boxing is really lacking. Unless he's physically overwhelming an opponent I find it hard to see him beating anyone truly world level. He probably won't fight anyone on that level too often in any case so it might not matter all that much.
I've seen Jnr be slightly buzzed a couple of times. Against BJS and Spike O'Sullivan. Even Blackwell buzzed him.
Snr was hit with hellacious punches from one of the best punchers I've ever seen and stood there unmoved. Totally different chin.
I didnt see BJ or Nick buzz him at all.
He appeared to be buzzed at one point V spike, but you don't know how hurt he actually was, just assumption like i said.
He has OK power. He's not a heavy hitter though, as the commentary tonight said on a couple of occasions. He hits as hard as the average professional fighter from what I can see.
What worries me though, Eubank landed a wild left hook on Quinlan, the type that ends fights. It didn't faze him that much.
Then again, Eubank throws a lot of punches. Like Khan, I don't think power is at the top of the priority list.
There's more to boxing than power. Spike O'sullivan hits considerably harder than Eubank but doesnt have the technique. Similarly to a guy like Carl Froch. Much much harder puncher but doesn't have the technique to be called a 'puncher'.
Eubank has enough power to take to world class level. What will fail him is his poor defense. His defense doesn't impress me at all.
Yeah he's got snap in his punches but it's not the kind of power that stuns his opponents with two or three punches, unless they're tired. It's accumulation over the rounds. I mean early in the fight he was hitting Quinlan with some hard shots but they were doing nothing at all until late in the fight. And I feel DeGale would out point him.
Plenty of fighters have that kind of power. Which other super middleweights are punchers to KO people with 2-3 punches? Callum Smith? Who else? Maybe the WBO champ.
Neither Degale or Jack are punchers. Probably less so or equal to Eubank, even though not as quick they have other things like proper technique to take them to the highest level.
Not sure about degale.
He's not exactly hurting world class guys is he? And it's more accumulation than anything. You can tell he doesn't have power when he's putting everything into his power shots and they don't really do much. As I said its high output that forces the stoppage, but could he do that with a fighter like DeGale? I don't think so.
I don't think he'd need to stop him, I think he'd simply swamp DeGale with activity down the stretch. DeGale tires at the best of times at the half-way stage, against a constant puncher who would be on him constantly it would happen. I could see a late stoppage due to fatigue and getting stuck and hit on the ropes.
Medina was hitting and busting DeGale up and a heavily faded Dirrell was schooling him at times, his boxing skills are severely over-estimated.
Hopefully the fight happens and we'll find out. DeGale is playing it down, but Jr is calling for it. I believe the sparring situation a few years back sits with them both.
So what is the measure of having power? Saying someone has zero power - that's like a Ricky Burns or Paulie Malignaggi. Eubank is a pretty snappy puncher just not a one punch KO artist.
He stops and hurts everyone he fights, even BJS was on his last legs against him. He clearly has enough snap to hurt people.

It's partly assumption, we just don't know yet.
That's mainly the reason i want to see GGG v Eubanks to see if he really has inherited it.

Eubank Snrs chin is far beyond Jrs. It's not a discredit to Jnr really it's just Snr has one of those concrete heads. Junior doesn't.

Where's this myth coming from that Eubank has zero power? Who has he been in with that hasn't been hurt?

not to mention his most important asset: his fathers ATG chin...

Jr's work rate is overrated he postures around the ring and has zero power to hurt DeGale. Put it this way I rate DeGale as a better fighter than Eubank. Could Eubank beat Dirrell? I don't think so. His skill set doesn't compare to DeGales. And yes DeGales stamina is a problem but I still think he out boxes Jr with ease.

I seriously would not pick Degale over Eubank jr, Eubank might to have KO power but his energy levels, output would make him win more than 6 rounds against James, especially in those 4 rounds where Degale does nothing but rest.

Brave performance from an outgunned Quinlan. He really tried to fight it out when he was getting hammered in the 9th.
There's another Aussie called Zac Dunn who would jump at the chance to fight Jnr.
It's definitely not about switching off.
He slows down and had bad moments in every single fight, that's not improving as he gets older. How does that fare against a guy with a ridiculous punch output, physical strength and a granite chin?
Jr wins for me.
Degale's fight against his mandatory is crucial. He needs a big win and then he could probably earn millions fighting Groves and Eubank Jr. And possibly call it a day. I do think he competes well with both of them.
I know he's only 30 but sometimes you sort of look at fighter and think they've definitely reached their ceiling. The sharks will start to circle if he hangs on much longer after that.
Even the Callum Smith isn't the right fight for me. I know Smith hasn't really fought in great company but that is one where Degale could really come a cropper and it could be a bit messy.
DeGale is one of the few top level guys I'd give Eubank Jr a good shot against. Just a good style match up for him imo
Whereas I feel like even Groves would be a nightmare stylistically. Zurdo too
DeGale has shown power in about 2 fights ever, he's a slapper.
He's taken lots of punishment, never improved his stamina or defensive flaws. DeGale would land, but with zero impact and Jr's workrate would swamp him IMO.

James seems to get a pass for switching off.
Tbh, he aint switching off. He does it in every fight. We hear about how he is as fit as anything which I'd say he probably is but he hasn't got a 12 round gas tank.
He also has that natural inclination to go to the ropes which Eubank Jr would like.
It's close fight - because Degale could find himself outlasted.
