Keep in mind I"m mostly a fan of Mayweather and I've watched him speak over the years, he was never a bright bulb, but recently after he's retired it seems like his speech capabilities have disintegrated even further. Watching a few recent interviews such as this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nweYVErLrbo he's just more and more hesitant and appears to be able to only speak a word at a time.
Has he really taken that much punishment to his brain to have permanent brain damage or is he simply not that smart?
Like I said before, it's in your blood. You know, it's protect yourself at all times. Skills pay the bills, you know, like I said before, hard work and dedication. He's a hell of a fighter, like I said before, a hell of a fighter.
Actually, i do think long years of boxing, head trauma affected him a bit.
I watched some old interviews from the late 90s-early 2000s and he sounds alot better.
I stay clear of mayweather interviews in general, mainly due to him being a cringe-worthy idiot, so haven't heard him in a couple of year's, but i definitely noticed this last night, he was really struggling to string a sentence together, took him like 10 seconds to prepare a 10 word sentence in his brain...
He spoke much better before them Madaina bouts I think them sledge hammer fist scrambled his brains. He took more punches to the head from Madaina than his last 10 bouts prior to that
I think Mayweather Jr. is autistic. Slightly, as it is even expressed in his boxing. He's detailed and perfect with his craft.
Whereas a normal boxer, I presume, isn't thinking about himself as much as Mayweather did to get things running.
There's nothing wrong with the inability to communicate well; I for one can't keep a conversation rolling, unless it is typed.
I'm too vague and blunt, while severely lacking the empathy required to address situations on the spot. Hell, I start my conversations with half-completed sentences assuming that the other person generally knows what I'm saying based on the historical theme of what has been spoken. I read extensively, so it isn't vocabulary that necessarily keeps from speaking.
But flash some quotes on my screen, and I swear to god, I'll make money.
The chief dealer at the bank doesn't care if I don't speak.
So long as the money rolls in, and shareholder value keeps peaking, I'm good.
But I don't know, it may be something you can master. But I don't care much about it. Money seems to talk a whole lot of different languages. It even makes people's eyes open more than anything I could say intellectually.
You can always form a contingency plan for speaking.
:lol1:
He was never that smart to begin with. He likes to try to pass himself off as smarter than he truly is. Even in the interviews last night on showtime, he had to gather his thoughts for a solid 5 seconds to answer one question.
But its not clear if he suffers from brain damage or not. Not everyone who boxes gets it. I heard it's anywhere from 15% to 20% of boxers suffer from brain damage. I'm sure how long one does it has a factor. We'll know for sure in the next few years.
What we do know, is that Victor Ortiz had brain damage the very second he put on boxing gloves for the first time.
As others have mentioned, he has that whole slowed speech thing going on as the interviewer and audience hang on to every lingering word. Careful to put his words out there like when he used to pot shot and get out of range.
He's not far gone like Floyd Sr as some have suggested, at times he lacks the vocabulary to express himself fully but that's understandable considering he dropped out of high school to fight for a living.
He speaks candidly and seems at ease with himself here, and not the punch drunk, calculated politician he presents himself as
Floyd has been fighting men since he was 15 and dropped out of high school the next year. He isn't well spoken or intellectual. He tries to make a point and can't find the words. Is what it is.
I notice alot of supposedly boxing fans dont know that fighters take damage from sparring.
That said, Floyd obviously struggles whenever he is in social settings. I dont know what condition he suffers from but there is something there.
The combination of the two will give you what we just saw.
He is just uneducated but filthy rich so does it really matter?
Plus I doubt you can get punch drunk on a few shots to the head
''Few shots to the head'' :pat:
Box for 30+ years and this guy reckons he only took a few shots to the head.
If Mayweather were dumb he'd still be with Bob Arum:lol1:
Floyd like many athletes,is just not a good public speaker....doesn't mean he's dumb..just not articulate.
Tagongtago,
He is speaking slow, he takes a long time to string together sentences, this is his native tongue, roy jones jr speaks better. Floyd doesnt slur his words he just isnt bright.
Floyd loves the spotlight he walks around with ten bodyguards, are you his pr person saying because he is being interviewed is the reason he takes so long to put a few words together? Just stop man.

Big Mayweather here, and have to give it to him business wise and his business brains, having said that he just isn't articulate enough when you hear him. I know he didn't go didn't get further in terms of education and he has done great for himself but Muhammad Ali wasn't highly educated but he definitely can handle himself, Mayweather needs media training IMO.
When he's not giving interviews he sounds totally different, he speaks the same way he spoke 10 years ago, sometimes he speaks too fast u don't even eunderstand him. When he's giving interviews though he's always thinking because everything he says gets a headline made out of it so I think that's why he tries to be selective and tries to take his time, speech has never been his greatest asset at any time of his career, he was at his best when he didn't care and said whatever he wanted to say, but he can't do that anymore.
Come on dude is slow. Stop getting offended, its like floyd is being insulted he isnt he is just slow, he takes after his father, jeff mayweather is the only well spoken witty and inteligent one in the family. Roy jones jr has been knocked out and badly damaged more than floyd and he speaks better and faster. Floyd is slow, he probabaly doesnt like reading books, if you read at a young age it trains your brain. This is why i always advocate reading even if its just a magazine on the toilet or the news online or a comic, daily, even doing crossword or word search helps.
I have never seen a politician speak as slowly as floyd just stop, You probalably make fun of pacquiao and ggg english, but giving a pass to an american who is a native speaker, while pac and ggg know several languages and english is not their native tongue.

True people here on this website think here just because you can box like a genius it makes you one. if that was the case Einstein would have been the best boxer ever or all Doctors and Engineers would be World Champs
einstein was an amateur boxing champ but he didn't have a chin like amir khan so he went in another direction with his life
I notice this he seems slow, like he has a limited knowledge of words from english language, keep in mind this is the only language he knows so what is his excuse for speaking so slowly? He doesnt do drugs, never takes punishment.
he is becoming like his father who is at a loss for words and stuttering
His boxing IQ is genius but I think he is pretty dumb in general...
I just cringe everytime he opens his mouth, like dude does not know how to talk.

Mayweather may not be articulate but that doesn't mean he's not intelligent. You don't make 100s of millions and being one of the biggest PPV draws boxing has ever seen without being smart. This thread reeks of prejudice.
I believe you have to give the credit to Al Haymon he was the brains behind him. When Floyd was asked who he's fighting or what are his plans he would always say I have to get with my adviser Al Haymon. It's hey Dummy your going to fight this guy next, or you will wait 5 years to fight Pac. Don't worry I'll make you a lot of money that's what went down. Without Al Haymon he would have never got that rich. Al Haymon also had an influence with the judges so without him I think they would have never gave him that Delahoya win
