I thought that was one of the great boxing announcer calls of recent memory. It was simple but spontaneous and just captured the craziness of the moment.
What are some other memorable calls from boxing commentators that have stuck with you?
bang bang lampley's often guilty of trying to make dramatic moments seem more dramatic. just call the fights when they're good, jim. the sport is dramatic enough when you have good matchmaking and the fighters are young. you and max don't have to call every fight a potential fight of the year after one decent exchange in the 3rd round.
I agree 100%.
Lately it seems they try to push almost every fight they televise as being a "contender for fight of the year."
And every one of their fighters has to be in the top 5 P4P.

sometimes he gets it right, doe. sometimes they just have good nights. the whole booth was on point for pavlik - taylor 1.
"there's a new middleweight champion, and he's from youngstown ohio."
"muscle memory strikes again."
"kelly pavlik is a yough cookie from youngstown."
Yeah, that bang bang sh1t got me wondering if he was ever gonna stfu..I thought maybe the mic got wet and he was getting shocked and sh1tting himself.

I can't hear the voices properly on this vid:

It's been a while, but on my old VHS copy I have the fight with full commentary by Harry Carpenter, and the Quote you posted sounded exactly like that.
BTW on the above vid it says it has the RADIO commentary by Harry Carpenter. Is that correct? Again going by memory, my copy has several long passages where Carpenter is silent. Surely that cannot have been radio.
That does sound just like him, but the search I did on Google has Time Magazine, The Guardian, and Buzzfeed all reporting that it was David Frost rather than Harry Carpenter that uttered the quote.
Nah, I looked it up and it was David Frost.

I wouldn't call it an iconic call necessarily, but Merchant is the commentator that frequently comes to mind when thinking about memorable lines.
"Margarito eats those punches like M&M's..." -Merchant during Mosley/Margarito
I have to go watch the fight to see what round it was called, but I'm guessing it was somewhere in round 5 or 6, where by now Margarito had taken several dozen haymakers and but just kept coming
"Fernando Vargas may have had a six pack in his stomach, but he didn't have a six pack in his chin." -Merchant after De la Hoya stopped Vargas
"This should be the round of the century!"-Emanuel Steward during Round 9 of Gatti/Ward 1
"Biiiiig trouble!...BIIIIIIIG trouble!"-Lampley as an undefeated Mike Jones tried in vain to get up following a brutal uppercut from Randall Bailey
When David Frost said, "Muhammad Ali has done it! The great man has done it! This is the most joyous scene that has ever been witnessed in the history of boxing!" after he knocked out George Foreman. Just the way he said it encapsulated the glory of the moment.
I am quite sure that was Harry Carpenter.
That was cringe inducing. As if Larry Merchant would ever in his life be able to kick Floyd's ass.
It was a memorable moment for sure, though.
It was massive on the cringe factor but I kind of liked the way Larry gave absolutely no fvcks whatsoever when it came to Floyd.
Erik Morales asking larry merchant.......Did you like that? "I love it" replied Merchant, In reference to Erik Morales choosing to stand toe to toe with Manny Pacquiao in the 12th round of their fight.

Also, Bob Sheridan when Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson, especially the way he kept screaming, "Unbelievable!" after the fight was stopped. He called the ending (and really, the whole fight) with an impassioned zeal, whereas Lampley barely even reacted to the uppercut and his call of "Down goes Tyson!" was so dull and pedestrian by comparison.
Hard to pick, really.
Floyd Wetherton - "Well, the match lastin' about up until the particular inaccuracy, particular unusually, that should be the ultimate determining factor in about the 12 round experience, heart of a champion, margarine hat."
and Floyd Wetherton - "A...a broken promise, i...is a lot like a child's pinwheel. You have to be yourself, or at least within the confines."
Happy 23rd birthday, Floyd.
