Daniel Jacobs hires Soviet sparring partners to prepare for GGG
As Daniel Jacobs prepares for the biggest fight of his life against Gennady Golovkin in March, he’s giving himself what he believes is his best chance for victory. ****** reports that Jacobs’ 10-week training camp will host Avtandil Khurtsidze, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Ievgen Khytrov as his main sparring partners.
“We think they can emulate Golovkin’s style better than anybody out there,” Keith Connolly, who advises all three, as well as Jacobs, told ******.com on Wednesday. “They’re from the (former) Russian system and they’re all top middleweights. Besides Danny and GGG, I don’t think there’s anyone out there even in the Top 10 who can really compete with those guys. The fact that they’re from (the former) Russian amateur program, a lot of these guys have the same type of style and I think just psychologically, it will be good for Danny to be in with them.”
Khurtsidze (32-2-2, 21 KOs) is currently the WBO’s number 1 ranked contender to the title Billy Joe Saunders holds, but was passed over in favor of Canelo Alvarez who was named as Saunders mandatory challenger.
Derevyanchenko (9-0, 7 KOs) was a bronze medalist at the 2007 world championships and 2008 Olympian. He’s currently rated as the #10 middleweight in the world by BoxRec.
Khytrov (14-0, 12 KOs) was a 2012 Olympian and a gold medalist at the 2011 World Championships. He’s rated as the #11 middleweight in the world by BoxRec. He’ll join Jacobs’ camp a few weeks after his fight against Immanuwel Aleem on Jan. 14.
Jacobs team plans on having these three contenders “...emulate GGG’s style, as far as cutting off the ring and throwing that left hook to the body that GGG throws when he has his opponent on the ropes.”
Khurtsidze, Derevyanchenko, and Khytrov make for some highly-rated sparring partners, but do you think they can adequately prepare Jacobs for what Golovkin brings to the table?

Such a worshipping OLD fool.
GGG should spend his money on the same thing.
Who you calling old ? you fück witted moron. GGG is gonna beat this guy the same way he beat Lemiuex, show him respect due to his power but absolutely punch through him as he marshalls him around the ring with his superior footwork and all around boxing skill, GGG is iron chinned and punches like a nuclear weapon at this weight. Take all this into account and the fact Jacobs is chinny, your answer is GGG stoppage rounds 5-6 at best. IM humble O.
There isn't a person with good vision that can say that Jacobs was winning that fight.
Jacobs was ahead, but that was because Pirog was moments away of a robbery.
Still i don't know why make arguments about fights that you didn't saw, boxrec warriors are the worst.
I've only said what I've heard from other people, and I don't visit boxrec.
It doesn't matter if you think that was a robbery, scorecards is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.
You have to be twice as better as your opponent if you're foreigner and fighting on hostile territory and Pirog did everything right and prevented the fight from going full distance
All power and pressure (p&p) are not equal. What matters is how effectively that p&p is applied.
None of those sparring partners can replicate GGG's footwork & ring cutting/generalship ability.
I don't think Jacobs gets walked through, but I do see him being broken down over the course of about 5-7 rounds. He simply can't absorb the incoming fire as well as GGG looks to be able to.
Agree with this^. Golovkin will hunt Danny down and punish him. I'd like to see something competitive but I still see Jacobs getting put down in this one. Using Russian/Ukrainian sparring partners is a good idea but as you say they can't replicate Golovkin's methodical breakdown of his opponents. We'll see pretty soon.
he was very uncomfortable in that fight, he seemed to be getting warmed up but he got caught. good post!!!
Seemed like he might have been able to handle being backed up or being forced to fight at that tempo, but not both. He had his moments and he timed Pirog with some great shots. The fight was always on Pirog's terms though, right from the beginning.
I watched that fight back today too. Pirog was superb. Such a shame he got injured.
He really didn't right like the stereotypical Soviet school fighter at all though. Great head and upper body movement like you said, bent his legs and didn't stay tall, leaned at the waist, used a lot of hooks, feinted constantly, was very fluid, and fought at a high tempo.
Golovkin doesn't fight exactly like Pirog but he is just as unconventional as him, if you're taking the stereotype of the Eastern robot as your model. He also fights at a high tempo, stays low a lot of the time, and looks to score big with hooks in a way that the stereotype Soviet school fighter doesn't.
Golovkin might be a good bit more hittable than Pirog, but if the Lemieux fight is anything to go by he's nowhere near as reckless if he respects the opponent's power.
The bigger question is what has Jacob's learned about how to deal with pressure. He did ok at times against Pirog but he always looked very uncomfortable with the rabbit role. Got caught square on several occasions. He landed some nice shots but in general it was single shots. Rarely did he score a significant combination. That probably wouldn't be enough to beat Golovkin.

Jacobs isn't 8/1 in the bookmakers . GGG is 1/8 on, there's a massive difference. All this propaganda and saying the right things is going to make me put some money on Jacobs.
The only fighter Ive seen trybto pressure ggg was lemule. But lemule got previously outboxed by alcine :lol1: i think also lemule was the hardest puncher ggg has faced so thats why they boxed more
:lol1:
The ultimate shitpost from a know-nothing casual.
I'm proud to be casual boxing fan, I don't have much time to spend on every fight in boxing just like I'm not interested in seeing rappers fight, matchups with one of the greatest boxer ever lived against UFC fighter with boxing rules, or 60 + y.o actor beating up fans in the ring.
I try to follow the fights that I consider relevant and interesting for me, that's it
And I'm still right, Danny Jacobs was winning this fight on scorecards
Never watched that fight, on Russian boxing forum I've heard that Danny Jacobs was dominanting Pirog until that KO happened
Pirog is still a nobody in pro boxing
:lol1:

You haven't even seen the readily available, 5 round fight, you read about it on a boxing forum lol. Gtfo lame troll
I'm not trying to troll anybody, it was you who started talking to me, I'm just saying my opinion and I don't like getting involved in discussions, proving the point in the internet is stupid, and the people on this site is one of the last things in this world I care about, I wouldn't even move my finger if your lives were depending on it.
Why you even argue with me if everything I've said was right?
I've said that Pirog achieved nothing remarkable in pros, so we never had the chance to know the real value of his potential, that is true
I've said that Jacobs was winning that fight, yes and that is also true, he was leading 39-37 on all three scorecards before that KO
Tell me, which one of these things is false?
The same people that constantly berate Jacobs for getting stopped by Pirog.. brush off Manny's early KO losses.
Pirog will not be in that ring with GGG.
People act like this is a tag-team match.
Golovkin/Pirog vs Daniel Jacobs.:lol1:
Jacobs doesn't have a tumor growing on his spine and he's not 23 y/o this time around people.
Golovkin better be working overtime on his defense, because what he's shown so far, ain't gonna' cut it.
GGG better hire Pernell Whittaker and several relatives of Willie Pep and do it in a hurry.
Calm down, because the same people who says that Pirog KO doesn't mean anything since "it was a long time ago and he improved", they berate Lomachenko for losing a fight with Salido, ignoring the same arguments
You might say that Lomachenko is a bum for losing to Salido, but then you have to call Danny Jacobs "Pirog's son"
Or you might defend Jacobs for losing to Pirog because he's "improved from that moment", but then you have to admit that Lomachenko loss doesn't mean nothing because he's improved as well
All other options would be double standarts
I thought I was being right, you guys don't know how good or bad Pirog was so there's no point in praising him, Jacobs was leading on scorecards before that KO
You haven't even seen the readily available, 5 round fight, you read about it on a boxing forum lol. Gtfo lame troll
Yes we all know, that's what happens when you retire with 20 fights with back injuries dummy. You thought you were being insightful? Or you read that a Russian boxing forum, sounded profound?

I know that he retired thousands years ago, you're dumb mother****er, I meant that when he was active he achieved nothing remarkable in the pro career with the exception of that KO

Well if that's what you heard, that seals it. No point in watching it on YouTube.
Still nobody eh? Having retired 5 years ago probably has nothing to do with it. What's your function here? You're useless
