It seems pretty clear that Golovkin is more offense oriented against softer punchers. When he gets in with a power puncher he spends more time establishing his jab and ensuring the right hand lands. When Golovkin and Canelo fought their lighter opponents they were fighting sloppily even as they were getting hit since they weren't being hurt by the punches. It just seems unfair to judge a fighter based on a fight they probably weren't even taking seriously.
because big hitters/action guys never get credit for their defensive skills. .Tyson's defense was also overlooked. .even Pacquiao gets no props, he was making Floyd miss a bunch. . people just assume that if you're not doing the shell then you suck at defense..hell all Winky Wright did was the ear muffs all night and it worked for him due to his long arms. .Chavez Sr was a master at slipping punches at close range, rolling with punches that seemed to land clean, parry, etc... Golovkin has great D and a solid chin as well.
We're talking about defense chump:lol1:
Don't change the subject you stumpy little rodent.
Nobody is saying GGG can't KO a bunch of bums...I'm saying HE SHOULDN'T BE GETTING HIM BY THEM
Listen up vermin, maybe he has to let his lowly opposition (who all happen to be ranked in or around the top 10 of the division) land a few punches on him so the fighters that you support will grow enough balls to step in the ring with him. It's called bait and switch, and Jacobs about to learn all about it. :boxing:
He's not a defensive maestro.
But he has nearly 400 amateur fights, and has never been dropped as a pro.
It's good enough to get him where he is so far.
He can be hit.
I do think he has a pretty good beard.
He hasn't been hit by a fighter great enough to make him truly pay, and at the same time, take what he can bring back on the offensive end.
Can Jacobs crack him?
Yes
I think GGG is gonna lost to Jacobs.
We're talking Golokin....not Hagler or somebody.
GGG is an old guy with flamingo legs and a resume that reads more like a SNL skit than a resume.
His legs are a part of the appeal.
None of that will happen any way.:lol1:
Golovkin is not that kind of fighter.
GGG couldn't even emerge unscathed against Adama and Wade.:lol1:
Gabe Rosado couldn't lay a glove on Angulo....but had GG busted up pretty good.
You guys aren't paying attention.
LOL, yeah yet another fight you guys use as evidence that GGG is schit......although it's yet another fight he won via TKO/KO. It's pretty sad man, all you come up with to show how a guy is no good are KO victories.
If this is your strategy, I hate to break it to you but it's a pretty lame one. :boxing:
Golovkin is in a constant state of carelessness.
He's developed fatal flaws in his game and he can't help it.
Maybe it's all the weak comp...all the years of fighting guys that he KNOWS can't hurt him.
If you guys expect GGG to suddenly become a defensive genius just because Jacobs is dangerous...you're in for a jolt.
Golovkin is not the fighter ya'll think he is:boxing:
You think he's gonna lose to Jacobs?
Ya'll make it seem like lil Davey is the 2nd coming of Marvin Hagler.:lol1:
If you're basing his defense off Lemieux..then you're not using a very good example.
Who's the best figther Lemieux Ko'd???????????????????
The guy knocks out 90% of the people he faces. If he hits you flush with that left hook, you are going to the canvas. He might not be the best all around boxer but his left is VERY fast and strong as schit, no observant boxing fan can take that away from him.
:pat:
What complete foolishness.
GGG gets hit because he drops his punches and pulls back with his hands down.
THAT is why he gets hit.
If you think defense is something that can be turned on and off like a lightswitch...then you don't know sh*t about boxing or any form of self-defense.
Sometimes I wonder what kind of people post here.
So, if he shuts Jacobs down completely and GGG emerges unscathed, what will you say then? If he shows up with a great defense, then either his defense improved or Jacobs wasn't that good to begin with. Which will it be?
His defense is sound. That's about it tho. He's no defensive guru and he dies get sloppy. I'm not sure what people want people to see in his defense. That's not his specialty. There are numerous active fighters out there with better defense. Let him stick to what makes him deadly.

Yet you're talking like he's a computer program and not a human being. Fighters get careless no matter how good they are.
People underrate his defense because they don't know what they are watching. It's honestly that simple.
Guy who don't know too much about the sport tend to relate good defense with philly shell type styles, which is pretty erroneous.
Golovkin has fantastic defense. Golovkin is similar to Maidana in that because he comes forward and is an aggressive fighter who can stop you with one shot, people assume that you can't also be an elusive, slick fighter who knows who to roll shots, catch and shoot, and parry while throwing.
Then, there's the fact that fighters largely choose how they want to fight. Guys who don't understand boxing don't see that. Just like a basketball player can choose to be aggressive and drive to the rim or defer and move the ball and set up post up shooters, so can a fighter choose to fight off the backfoot, choose to go to war but maintain defensive integrity, choose to go to war and disregard defense, etc.
GGG actually has a very good shoulder roll. He did it in the stevens fight and against lemieux. He also uses less energy when he does it.

You make a great point.

When he works behind his jab he moves his head and looks for angles. Against Brook he got sloppy and got tagged.
It's not just about being hurt getting your face puffed up then cut could cause a tko loss so your not supposed to abandon your defense it should be part of your game plan against anyone.
He does loose focus and that is a weakness in his armor.
Ray
He showed good defense against Lemieux and has previously, but you don't get to throw caution to the wind as he has in recent times and retain respect as a defensive fighter.
Because he chooses to be sloppy and trade. And that's on him. The mentality or mindset is part of good defense.
I think he still has the capability of showing off great defense. Brook was probably like a sparring partner to him.
GGG has very good defense if he's alert, if his whole focus is to not get hit I think he can do it against a B class opponent. However I think GGG has the weakness of losing focus during portions of rounds and during these he tends to forget about moving his head and he absorbs too many shots. But like I said if he's alert he's not so easy to hit with big bombs.
