As much respect as I have for Bhop, his career is filled with some comedy gold, the wrestling match with Dawson, the horrendous showboating fails on both sides in Calzaghe v Bhop and so on.
Tbh, was it ever going to end any other way? I thought Bhop would win but something like this was not impossible. At first I thought it WAS A PUSH but the replays are damning to hopkins lol
Like Ali said, "You'll see the launching of a human satellite"
One of those left hands from Smith launched Bhop into retirement

Haha. A combination of the last punch Joe Smith, Jr. hit him with and the rope that was holding him up slipping from behind his back.
must admit I was briefly concerned for Bhop the way he landed... Looked a heavy fall and he kinda landed on his head!!
So was I but the look on his face when he got back up was hilarious and the replay had me cracking up
his body had no muscle definition whatsover. atleast we know he wasnt roiding up.
lol stfu, he looked in damn good shape
Hopkins has been "old" for the last 15 yrs, but this was the very first time it was evident. even when Kovalev was battering him around the ring he looked way more alive than vs Smith..his legs, reflexes and counters are done with..he should've picked a bum for his last fight but he went with the young aggressive hungry champ starving to reach next level.
Weird thing is, Hopkins fought in spurts, still won between 3 and 4 rounds and managed to counter the much younger man. But when he was backing up and not countering, he did look quite old.
It was just a weird one tbh. At no point did Hopkins look like an old Ali or Leonard or Holyfield but at the same time, he didn't look to be himself.

From 45 onwards that is when he should have called it a day, the wins he has gained from 45yo to 51yo aren't anything anybody will impress towards his resume however the Trinidad and prime ODLH are.
Neither were prime and they were the smaller fighters moving up.

One of my first Hopkins memories was Mills Lane "pushing" him out of the ring during the Robert Allen fight. I suppose it's fitting this be my last memory of him.
I thought it was crazy Roy was talking about BHop getting old and his reflexes slowing down but he never seems to be able to apply those principles to himself.
It's like he's denying Father Time.
He needs the money and psychologically he wants one more shot at glory as his time at the top came to such a sudden end.
I'll probably watch the fight later but was Hop winning the fight?
It could've gone either way. Bhop still showed some quickness and brains whereas Smith was really loading up but Bhop allowed himself to be caught in the corner once too often.
One of the left hands literally sent Hopkins flying lol
