Strangely this hasn't been posted on the main page or forums, but at the annual WBC conference, Vitali has been honoured by the WBC with the status of 'Eternal Heavyweight Champion'.
Excerpt from article:
Klitschko, visibly delighted with the award, said: “Nothing is impossible. I was born in the Soviet Union, a big country where professional boxing was forbidden. I would watch Mike Tyson when he became the youngest world heavyweight champion in 1986, and I said to my friends, ‘Do you know what boys? One day I will be fighting guys like that. One day I will be world heavyweight champion.
“And one day I wore that green belt that was once Tyson’s, that belonged to Muhammad Ali. For a while, it was mine.
“It’s very important to have a dream, and to do everything you can to make that dream come true.”
Klitschko, 45, afterwards spoke of his desire to bring the WBC Convention – which officially opened today – to Kiev in the future. As a fighter he twice held the WBC heavyweight title, and never lost it in the ring.

Also, the Klitschko brothers were awarded with a Guinness World Record for the most championship fight wins from 26th June 1999 - 25 April 2015 = 40 victories.

Thoughts?
Dude, I'm a fan.
but 'Eternal Heavyweight Champion'??
Has to be satire. How frivolous. Only the WBC could do something like this with a strait face.´
The description might sound a bit silly, I agree.
Maybe 'Special Champion of Honor' or something instead. I also cringed a bit about the 'Eternal'.
More importantly he never lost it in the ring, something I think no other WBC heavyweight champ managed. Statistics wise he is definitely one of the most dominant champs the WBC had representing them.
Yes, dominance is a most fitting description.

Would be funny if not potentially true!
Nothing wrong with it. It isn't saying he's the GOAT or a better fighter than the other champions, but since he always represented the WBC well and never actually lost the title in the ring, an honorary 'title' such as this is more a gesture than anything significant, and a good reward for Vitali and how he represented the WBC when he was champ. But again, don't see anything satirical about it...
Titles are meaningless these days. Especially when they are handed out and not won.
An honorary 'title' is earned usually, as was the case here. And as I wrote already, Vitali never actually lost the title in the ring, so can't say he doesn't deserve the recognition by the sanctioning body he was champ of for the better parts of his career.

Would be funny if not potentially true!:lol1: that's exactly what I was laughing about in my previous post.I wonder if they have to pay sanctioning fees for eternity?
???
Great honor, he represented the green strap with pure awesomeness and authority.
