The relationship is only "strained" (I don't think that hearn and Degale have any personal animus) because James Degale isn't all-the-way bought into Hearn's plan for him; the plan to get Degale to being Box Office is different.
Still, Eddie Hearn has the key to the push at Sky Sports/Sky Box Office, Eddie Hearn has the promotional foundation to likely build the biggest show in the UK, and Eddie Hearn has the relationships to secure for Degale two of the bigger fights for him at the weight (Callum Smith and George Groves).
Because, the reality of the situation still is that, if James Degale is ever going to be Box Office in UK, it's going to be working with Matchroom Sport.
I agree with you.
Good points.
I was thinking more about Degales strained relationship with Hearn.
But then again, Al Haymon is his promoter now anyway.

Why would James Degale make the jump, though? After the Badou Jack fight, Degale's biggest showdowns left are the Callum Smith fight, a George Groves rematch (assuming he gets his hands on the WBA 168lb belt), and a potential fight against Gilberto Ramirez, none of which are aided by going with Frank Warren.
With Degale clearly putting his bet with Al Haymon for the near future, a move to Warren is utterly asinine.
Good points.

I still contend Hearn cashed out on Brook with the GGG fight regardless of how much Brook actually wanted that fight so this isn't surprising to me if it turns out to be true. I'm sure Hearn was whispering in his ear "you got this...lets take this fight" hyping him up & **** lol.
The first thing that came to mind. Hearn talks him into getting beat up by Golovkin, then starts telling the media that Kell will fight his mandatory. Brook decides he's looking for new management. :D
Brook's trainer, Dominic Ingle, is too smart and knows too much about boxing for Eddie Hearn to be able to manipulate Kel like that. The Ingle gym is very tight knit and Brook has been been with them for a long time.
Ok, why would Brook go with Warren if he wants the BIG fights?
Hearn has more connections (better working relationship with Al Haymon for sure which is vital at 147).
Hearn has bigger and better shows more regularly.
Hearn is with Sky who are more established, well-known and a have a higher subscriber count than BT/Boxnation.
He seemingly gets a long with Hearn great, Warren doesn't really seem to be the most friendly sort of guy tbh. Hearn seems to be one of guys, willing to go the extra mile for his fighters with Warren its all business.
Doesn't make sense. It also wasn't Hearns problem that Brook couldn't get the big fights..well he had a part to play but he can't take all of the blame because Brook pulled out of TWO fights and had bouts of inactivity due to injury. Hearn kept him busy as he could whilst getting him money. Khan (i'm a Khan fan) chickened out of a fight with Brook demanding 70-30. Garcia's camp weren't interested. Vargas fight would've happened if that GGG payday didn't come along.
What does that mean?
If they jumped ship to FW and BT sport British boxing can still carry on. Or another promoter would be given the chance with SKY.
Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying British boxing at the moment and I don't want to see it back to where it was not too long ago.
It's just that I don't like that smug git Eddie.
Frank Warren doesn't affordably price his fights for fans, Frank Warren doesn't have the media presence to help but some extra heat on his fighters, Frank Warren doesn't have the types of relationships to deliver major fights for his fighters, Frank Warren doesn't present boxing in a way that is open to the casual audience (that's driven the current British resurgence), etc.
Frank Warren has presented boxing in the same manner as he's done for the last 30 years; BT Sports isn't going to change the fact that Frank Warren is likely set in his ways.
I doubt that Sky Sports simply "gives another promoter a chance", for the simple fact that they hadn't given anyone else a shot before Eddie Hearn convinced them to jump into the boxing business heavy.
Im interested to see what happens to the big name Olympians. Hearn might be able to look after big name fighters better, but Warren has basically as many dates as he wants and can keep his guys active. Could be attractive for the likes of Joe Joyce and Joshua Buatsi.
Joe Joyce and Joshua Buatsi have both yet to do anything as professionals to cap their ceilings ahead of time, tbh.
Joe Joyce already being 31 years old may want to simply just be kept active (to hopefully get a shot before he starts to fall apart), but why would the 23-year old, South London Buatsi go with Warren when he can fight on all of Hearn's bigger shows early (before hopefully settling into being a London draw in his own right if things pan out in the next 2-3 years?
Billy Joe Saunders, in his return fight from an extended layoff, boxed at a leisure center in Scotland that maybe sat 1000 people.
Billy Joe Saunders is arguably the biggest current name under Frank Warren's banner.
I'm pretty shocked. Hearn is a good promoter with a good stable who knows how to run a business. Warren has been iffy recently. I would stay with Hearn.
I reckon Degale will be the first to make the jump.

yet Frank Warren is doing gangbusters for boxing? gtfoh.
Not sure where you're from, but Matchroom Sport going by the wayside would literally kill the resurgence that British boxing has seen.

I hope they all leave matchroom and wipe that smug look off of daddy's boy's face.

The rumour was started as a joke on twitter by the usual people who spread, often amusingly, anti-matchroom stuff.
I reckon Degale will be the first to make the jump.
His contract with Matchroom may have already expired and if not then Hearn is only promoting DeGale in the UK anyway if Haymon wants to use Hearn's licence.
I've seen a lot of tweets claiming that Kell Brook will be leaving Matchroom. Kell is holding a press conference tomorrow. Shocker if true
Calling bull**** before this is allowed to fester.
Kell Brook already sells out fights in his home venue in Sheffield, Sky Sports seems in love with him (though to nowhere near the extent that they are with Anthony Joshua), and Eddie Hearn seems to still believe that Brook could be a Box Office fighter in the UK; you add Hearn's budding realtionship with US TV, and the fact that Erroll Spence Jr, Amir Khan, and the coming Garcia-Thurman winner are all on the same side of the fence, and I find it hard to imagine that the BT Sport money is so big to negate all that (and the fact that Frank Warren, outside of maybe his relationship with Bob Arum for a possible Pacquiao fight, has nothing else to really offer Brook at 147 or 154),
Lol Hearn hardly forced Brook into that fight tbf. Brook jumped at the chance because he wants the ££
In any case this story doesnt seem likely. Sounds like it was twitter bs which gained traction.
Brook absolutely wanted a big fight.
However, Hearn had failed to get him any at 147. The best he was willing to pay for was Vargas and even then he revised the offer.
In order to get a big fight under Hearn he had to jump 2 weight classes to fight a much bigger man with massive power; Hearn has done a poor job with Brook from the jump.
I would love to see it happen.
Hearn sold Kell down the river with the Golovkin fight and has been unable to secure him the big fights within his own division.
