Lol, normally that's the case even when I'm not a big fan of the fight like Pac-Bradley 3. This is where I draw the line though. My buddy has the Nvidia Shield and gets PPV free on it. This fight isn't even worth the 20 minute drive and potential buzz while driving home risk.
Kevin Iole is reporting that Cotto-Kirkland will be PPV!!!! LMAO
I should say, its being discussed and not official.
It's on PPV and your going to watch it.
We can agree to disagree, but I've been in the ring and can tell you that there's more to it than weighing more than your opponent.
Canelo simply didn't land enough to be favored over Cotto's work-rate.
Heck, that stance makes even less sense when you consider that Cotto's no light puncher, either, so he should've received more credit himself.
If you watch that fight on HBO's YouTube and don't see that, well then we definitely have different criteria as to the sport, indeed.
If Ward received the benefit of the doubt (actually being a light puncher) against Kovalev, there's no reason Miguel Cotto should be treated like his consistently more numerous, landed punches aren't worth anything.
And that's also without taking into account that Cotto blocked or evaded a lot more of Canelo's lower-output shots than he was given credit for by the commentators/media.
I saw it as a dominant performance by Cotto; if there are fair judges in the rematch, he should win fairly easily.
Those scorecards were off, big-time.
To be fair I think I also scored it for Cotto on first watch but by no means did I think it was some dominant performance. But I also was pretty drunk and had money on Cotto to win.. less than ideal conditions for objective scoring lol.
He can beat anybody; I had him beating Canelo by a wide-margin, but somehow he apparently didn't get the same benefit of the doubt that Ward did against Kovalev.
He outboxed Canelo beautifully, in my view, but all people wanted to talk about was how Canelo's huffing and puffing/yelling shots (along with crowd noise) were causing "so much more damage."
I don't buy it. If a fighter isn't showing any signs of damage and is outboxing the other fighter, you can't just give rounds to the other guy for "looking bigger." That's not how it should work.
To this day, I feel that a lot of how that fight was "interpreted" had to do with Canelo's promise to fight Golovkin next.
People simply wanted Canelo to win. Cotto had somehow become a "heel" in the eyes of the public.
If that fight had been judged fairly, Cotto would be one of the top pound for pound fighters right now and undoubtedly in the running as the best.
So, yeah, I'm confident he can still beat elite fighters.
Watch another sport
This would be an ok fight but not PPV worthy.
I agree. It has entertaining fight written all over it (for as long as it lasts anyway) but it's yet another should be HBO World Championship fight that somehow inexplicably finds itself on PPV

I do agree that he looked good against Canelo, but Canelo is one of the easier LMW match-ups imo. Lara, Andrade and the Charlos would be a pain in the ass for Cotto. If Cotto/Canelo 2 happens, he's probably gonna lose again.
Be surprised if this comes off. Canelo's been talking about having one more fight at 154lbs around the same period, think we're more likely to see a Canelo/Cotto rematch if they can agree to a reasonable purses. RN going to lose a ton of money on a Kirkland or Lamont Peterson ppv.
I'm actually happy this fight is on PPV. I'd rather it be there for me to ignore and not buy than burning a good chunk of HBO's yearly budget.
Do we know if this would be HBO PPV? Or an independent Roc Nation show?
Top Rank doesn't want to do business with Cotto/Roc Nation, and Top Rank is the one with the two fighters who make the most sense: Marquez and Bradley.
That's not their fault, but I am shocked that, after a year, Kirkland is the best they could come up with.
Other promoters must be giving them the cold shoulder, lol.
Cotto can still beat the best, so that's not surprising.
Which top LMWs can Cotto beat?
