The damage sustained was much greater than the damage kov sustained. This is a reflection of the greater power shots landed by kovalev

to be fair he knew if he won it was barely so this idea that he was "surprised" is a bit ridiculous and yes we all know the rounds kov won he won big no one is debating that
6 rounds Kovalev with a 2 point round 2 vs 6 rounds Ward...Kovalev wins.

"Guess Ward lost that one too"
Nope, that cut on wards face was from an elbow or a headbutt I believe. And the fight was not close on points so it's not significant at all, and a completely different situation.
if oyu don't consider facial damage as an aspect of the scoring of a boxing match you are totally missing the point of what a boxer is trying to do. either that or you're just being difficult beause you think ward lost and have some kind of vested interest in him.
i bet ward, man. i went to vegas to see him.
how is busting somebody's face up not a means of addressing the effectiveness of his punching?
so did i...........
I think Nay_Sayer made a thread saying:
What is Kovalev's plan B?
And listening to this video and hearing Ward say that he looked like "Man, you still here?" What was Kovalev's plan B then? What was his plan once his man didn't fold? What was his plan B vs a guy that was DETERMINED to win?
"The appearance of Ward's face post fight has nothing to do with whether he won or lost. The reason Kovalev won in most observers minds is because he was the more effective and dominant puncher in the fight. The judges didn't see it that way so its time to move on. We'll see if Ward's deserves some accolades after the rematch. That's the only way this controversial decision will be satisfied. Ward got the decision this time. Its over. "
IN a situation like this, a "close" fight. It is absolutely significant that Kov's punches did more damage than wards. Especially if number of punches landed are similar....
It doesn't get more dominant than making the other guy check out.
I guess, but I don't think he "checked out".
Either way I don't want to derail to thread with it, I get your overall point.
It's a poor example.
I gave the Manny the victory on points because he was throwing in volume and Clottey was hiding in his shell, but I wouldn't call it dominant.
If I box you and you throw all day and I sit in defense, you didn't dominate me, you just won on volume, maybe even outworked me, but Manny wasn't tagging Clottey all night, sooo many shots missed and were blocked. Clottey was more afraid to take risks than anything i'd say. Far from a dominant performance in my book. I think we could see a very different fight if Clottey opened up more, he was a fantastic fighter in his own right.

It's more of a testament to how useless it is to look at one's face, Pacquiao was dominant and looked pretty damn awful after the fight.

Boxing is scored by the round. You can get bloodied in round 4 but win every other round.
That is just lazy scoring. Dudes is on some video game ****.

Facial damage doe....
The appearance of Ward's face post fight has nothing to do with whether he won or lost. What Ward calls an inside game is illegal holding and hitting. Ward doesn't lead with a jab. He leads with a grab. He grabs the guy first and then wrestles him and throws punches while he holds him. That's legal and encouraged in MMA but it's illegal holding and hitting in boxing. Ward is the worst offender of illegal holding and hitting since Hatton got away with it in England. Kovalev isn't a bully. He is a great fighter who comes to fight with hard punches and not to hug, hold and wrestle.
What the hell sort of casuals do we have posting here? WTF??
Street Fighter ain't real life bro. With your Ol' "Go home and be a family man" ass.
:lol1:
facial damage is literally not a scoring criteria
if oyu don't consider facial damage as an aspect of the scoring of a boxing match you are totally missing the point of what a boxer is trying to do. either that or you're just being difficult beause you think ward lost and have some kind of vested interest in him.

this is true, but some guys have worse chins, don't they? do you not score a guy's chin?
some dude takes a bomb and doesn't blink wins a round against a dude who takes a bomb and goes down and is hurt.
two guys fight an even round, and one guy gets cut with a clean punch, you score the round to the guy who cut the other guy.
you did ask that, i just think we're talking our way around that.
you do score facial damage. it's just that it's not the only scoring criteria.
facial damage is literally not a scoring criteria
i literally did not ask any of that..i said so are we scoring facial damage now?? which of course we are not..some people damage easier then others..

you do score facial damage. it's just that it's not the only scoring criteria.
damage is literally what you score in a boxing match. it doesn't have to be facial damage exclusively, but you are doing nothing in a boxing match other than scoring who does more damage.
clean effective punching is a means of scoring damge
ring generalship is a means of avoiding damage and scoring your own damage.
defense is the avoidance of damage, and a means of tiring out and figuring out one's opponent so you can do more damage than he does.
agression is only effective and scored when it means you are doing more damage.
if you don't know how to score a round, just ask at the end who you thought did more damage and you'll have your answer.
i literally did not ask any of that..i said so are we scoring facial damage now?? which of course we are not..some people damage easier then others..
Face damage does not mean you won or lost a fight, however, I do think that's the reason round 10 was given to Ward on all three cards. He started bleeding from the nose that round
So now a judging criteria is facial damage?
