Some on here actually think that Ward didn't want to fight GGG and instead chose to fight Kovalev. Please tell me how this makes any sense.
FACT: Kovalev is a more dangerous fighter than GGG for anyone and especially for a style like Ward's.
How can you dispute this? Not only is Kovalev much heavier/bigger, but he is also faster than GGG. Not to mention he is much better defensively.
GGG has shown that he can be controlled in the clinch (see Brook fight) while Kovalev has shown that he can counter a clinch attempt from a master clincher (see Hopkins fight).

The argument is that ggg is a much better boxer, and ward can exploit things in Kovalev he can't in ggg. But I agree Kovalev is more dangerous because he's 15 pounds heavier, that's common sense. And I would say for all practical purposes ggg's jab makes his defense very good. Not to mention chin. Granted they aren't attributes typically categorized as defense, but they change his opponents offense.
They don't really think that. Which is why they make excuses when anyone suggests Golovkin moves up and fight the Ward/Kovalev winner.Nobody has to make excuses. Natural middleweights aren't expected or obligated to fight the world's best light heavyweight. Is anybody asking the Ward vs Kovalev winner to fight any of the world champion cruiserweights next?
I'm a GGG fan but I've always believed that Kovalev is the more dangerous fighter of the two.
Kovalev lacks the boxing IQ that GGG has he has some traits that GGG has but he lacks the chin and the IQ so for anyone blind enough to rate Kovalev as a more dangerous fighter I ask you how...

Ones best win is a 50yo
The others best win is Lemieux considerably better than a guy who belongs in retirement
Kovalev best win is a 50yo Bhop in a weak division, leave it to Yankee-doodle-doo's to only rate 175lber division when Ward moves up or should I say leave it to the black American racist fanbase to do that which is exactly what Ward fanbase is nothing more than a bunch of angry little black teens thinking they're living in the 60's type of phaggots who likely rioted with Clinton fans.
Kovalev is obviously more dangerous for Ward because he is a big 175 pounder with lots of height and reach while GGG is a smallish middleweight who has less height and reach. If GGG was naturally a big 175 pounder with more height and reach then he would be even more dangerous for Ward than Kovalev.
Kovalev is more dangerous because he's bigger. You're wrong on every other account. He's not better defensively, he's not faster and not as skillful. He is 15-20 lbs heavier though.
Kovalev would never be backed up by a guy two weight classes below him and he would neither be level on the cards with someone like GGG (a 160 fighter) was against Brook (a 147 fighter) after four rounds.
Kovalev has a far superior defence than GGG, his straight rights are much faster and cause more damage against similar sized opposition, if GGG had significant power advantages over Kovalev for their respective weight classes they fight at GGG would be laying waste to blown up welters faster than kovalev is destroying fellow light heavies.

No question at all that Kovalev is a much more dangerous risk for Ward to take. That's why all the Golovkin fanboys said he would never take it when they made a thousand excuses why Golovkin shouldn't fight Ward.
Now that Ward actually took the risk, they'll pretend otherwise.
