FORGET about the rest: Vasyl Lomachenko is the best boxer on the planet. Tonight Russian Sergey Kovalev defends his IBF, WBA and WBO light-heavyweight titles against American star Andre Ward in a fight that is being billed as the one that will decide the best in the sport. Click Here To Read More]
For those who continue to point at Lomachenko's loss to Salido, watch the fight again and spot why.
For all his experience at the time, Lomachenko didn't know how to pace himself for a 12 round fight title fight as he hadn't done it before. Instead of the rookie mistake of going out too fast and burning out, he did the opposite and started too slow - at the end of the fight he still had a full gas tank, while Salido was out on his feet as he budgeted his energy perfectly.
A simple mistake, and one Lomachenko won't do again. He knows he can start faster now and still be running on all 4 cylinders after 12 rounds. A rematch with Salido he would start out faster and be more hurtful early on, this time Salido wouldn't see the final bell. Also, Salido wouldn't have the weight advantage he had last time *unless he pulled the same trick of not making weight again), and expect a referee who doesn't think the beltline is somewhere around knee level. All in all, an easy rematch for Lomachenko.
But I agree with Warren - he's the best on the planet right now. I became a boxing fan after seeing Clay (as he was at the time) v Cooper, so been at it a while, and know class when I see it.
ps. Rigo also high class, but relies too much on his (almost peerless) defensive skills, with incisive counter-punching. He doesn't have an attack gear, and when he tries to use it, he moves out of his comfort zone and gets caught too easily. Rigo v Lomachenko will never happen, but that would have been a superb match-up as Loma would have risen to the challenge of unlocking Rigo's defence. And thats what will make Loma great, he will go for it without fear of losing, just like all the other greats down the years (eg the Durans or Haglers never shied away from a challenge).
In a rematch vs salido I believe Lomachenko will knockout salido..and Lomachenko had gary russell yelling like maria Sharapova from the 6th round an on....in a rematch vs russell ,Loma will win via knockout
I think Russell talks it, but doesn't really want it
Racial stuff aside. The fact still remains lomachenko is the best amateur boxing likely ever, which already solidifies his legacy in that regard. The fight vs salido was indeed a foul fested, complete bs fight where salido was STILL lucky to get a decision, and STILL almost got KO'd as well. Anyone who bases how good that kid is on that fight is soaked in ignorance and stupidity.

Well said.....these poor ghetto clowns are so jealous...the haymon playbook is to feign retirement or an injury add some careful matchups , play the race card so the ghetto clowns get in line....quack at very high decibels to attract attention and a fake star is made.....it is so easy to see through the bull $#!+ if you are not black

If he outclasses Walters, he'd certainly have a solid case
Completely outclassing Russell was enough for me to believe it...he took Russell to school and Gary is a very very talented fighter.
mayweather's 2nd pro fight was a 4-rounder against someone called reggie sanders with a record of 1-1-0
rigondeaux's 2nd pro fight was a 4-rounder against someone called robert guillen with a record of 4-2-3
chocalatito's 2nd pro fight was against a guy making his debut who eventually retired with a record of 1-7-0
lomachenko's narrow loss to a minor legend in his own right in orlando salido is more praiseworthy than anything any of those fighters accomplished at such an early stage of their pro careers

The Number 1 Pound For Pound Fighter Of The World Lomachenko will defeat walters.....I read several comments here on this thread and the jealousy and envy towards Lomachenko is interesting.....
FOH....he's the best boxer on this planet not named May weather, Rigondeaux, Chocalito, Cuadras. That loss to Salido says otherwise. LMAO

I really think Walters has a good chance of pulling off an upset. He is so underrated and is capable of beating most of the top guys in his division.
It's crazy that people think a proven champion with real skills and punching power beating a guy with 7 pro fights is an upset. That tells you all you need to know about lomachenkos talent level.
