The dude has been champ since spring of 2013.. 3 1/2 years and not one notable defense..
This is why boxing is such a garbage sport.. Almost 4 years and not 1 credible contender defense..
I honestly can't think of another champion in stevenson's position that went this long without a legit opponent.
And I like the guy as a fighter, I think he is underrated, but enough is enough..
FIGHT SOMEBODY
I actually kind of like that Stevenson is just hanging out for the moment at 175, it gives both Kovalev and Ward a logical place to go next.
Kovalev win or lose I want to see him fight Stevenson because that is a grudge match at this point. Ward if he wins has another big fight and if he loses (as long as it isn't a horrendous beating) beating Stevenson sets up a rematch nicely.
Now those fights would have to come off, but I do think we are close to the pay off for Stevenson's run (which I would call so-so).
His defenses are fine, for the most part. It's his age and inactivity that's concerning. Kovalev stole his thunder by fighting B-Hop and Pascal, and now Adonis has to find a way of getting back into our good graces.
Tarver-glen-tarver-hopkins-calzaghe-vacant-hopkins/pascal, dawson, adonis
Michael Spinks (1983-September 1985; Vacated title)
Virgil Hill (1996 - 1997)
Dariusz Michalczewski (1997-2003)
Julio Cesar Gonzalez (2003-2004)
Zsolt Erdei (2004-2009; Vacated title)
Jean Pascal (2010-2011)
Bernard Hopkins (2011-2012)
Chad Dawson (2012-2013)
Adonis Stevenson (2013-Present)
I'll got with Cyberzone -- no way euro-bum Calzaghe is on my list.
On top of those two, I liked Williams -- liked his showing against Rodriguez (flattened him in two) and he performed well against Stevenson in an underrated fight. I also think Alvarez is a solid title defense. No great shakes, but solid defenses.
I forgot he's fighting Alvarez next. That is a good defense.
Defenses
1st - 9-28-13 T. Cloud former IBF Light Heavyweight Champion
2nd - 11-30-13 B. Bellew WBC Cruiserweight Champion
3rd - 5-24-14 A. Fonfara beat the likes of Former Champ J. Chaves Jr and Two Time Champ N. Cleverly
4th - 12-19-14 D. Sukhotsky medicore fighter beat the likes of N. Mohemedi and Never been stopped before
5th - 4-4-15 S. Bika former WBC Super Middleweight Champion never been stopped
6th - 9-11-15 T. Karpency top 10 at the time beat the likes of C. Dawson
7th - 7-29-15 T. Williams Jr top 10 beat the likes of Y. Mach, C. White, and E. Rodirguez
so people really let the fact they don't like him cloud there judgement
Cloud came off two losses to fight Stevenson and was the most overrated fighter light heavyweight's seen in recent years.
Sukhotsky and Williams are plain average. Karpency as well, and by the time he got to Dawson the dude was shot to sh*t. Dawson's really been terrible since Ward drained and whipped his ass. I don't think that much of Stevenson beating him, either.
Bika was well-past it and looked awful losing to Anthony Dirrell in his previous fight. And also on a two fight losing streak going into the Stevenson fight.
Fonfara and Bellew are the only defenses really worth a damn that Stevenson has made, and they're not exactly great wins. Add in the fights he avoided and his "reign" has been pathetic.
Fonfara and Bellew turned out to be decent defenses. Other than that though? Ugh.
On top of those two, I liked Williams -- liked his showing against Rodriguez (flattened him in two) and he performed well against Stevenson in an underrated fight. I also think Alvarez is a solid title defense. No great shakes, but solid defenses.
The only real discussions which led us to almost have the fight were the purse bids. Kovalev or his team or both turned it down.
All this talk of the two sides talking of the fight can nit be substantiated and never got as close as the purse bid.
Why would a fighter turn down a purse bid for a fight he claims he wants?
Oh thats right, duva was going to lose and only wanted it on hbo. That's bs. Especially since u claim they've tried to make the fight since. What's changed? Kovalev is still exclusive to hbo.
Bottom line. Fight got very close to happening, the closest ever and Kovalev or his team turned it down.
The closest the fight came to happening was back in 2013 or 2014 before Stevenson was a Haymon fighter. Stevenson's management had a deal on the table, both sides thought the fight was agreed, they took their tuneups beforehand, and then Stevenson went to Haymon, who proceeded to blow the deal up and bring Adonis to Showtime.
So it was Stevenson who ducked the first time, and Kovalev who ducked the second time.
The **** is this idiot on about. Hell defend the likes of Jones and ward but claim Stevenson hasn't fought anybody?
He took the title from the best 175 pounder on the planet and defended against bellew and fonfara. Both went on to have relevant careers after. In fact bellew was mando so that was unavoidable.
He should get stick for letting the hopkins and pascal fights pass by, which is the major difference between him and Kovalev.
In terms of the Kovalev fight, last time I checked it was team Kovalev that turned it down.
Oh and this year we've just had garcia defend his title against an absolute bum and Brook hasn't defended his title against a single legitimate world level fighter.
So yeah... Diabetesali needs his insulin shot.
Why don't you post where I defended jones.... Go ahead and quote me. Go ahead and look at in roy jones thread in history.
Qoute my defenses of jones or stfu
Your dumbass probably thinks Bellew, cloud and fonfara are credible legacy defining opponents... But what can I expect from a dude that thinks morales is as good as floyd mayweather and hopkins
Are you still pretending to be anthony Joshua's training partner on here?
Or are you that you are a physics student?
Have you finally learned what a 1-2 in boxing?
But for real, I like it when you pretend you're anthony Joshua's training partner, it's sad someone has to pretend like that, but it is funny to watch
You wish lol!!! Calzaghe is trash he was never lineal...Adonis got it from: Dawson, who got it from Bernard ; who got it from Pascal.

the fights been there for years to take but stevenson refuses to take it so what are you talking about last time you checked? yeah it didn't get made when they were going to purse bid but they still tried to make it after that and stevenson/haymon said no every time. those don't count why? because you like stevenson isn't an answer. same crap with floyd-pac all over. floyd wanted to fight in 2009 therefore him ducking in 2010-2015 is justified? no.

Learn the sport. Or are you trolling?
He killed the momentum in the division. I can't remember the lineage of the 175 lb title, but I remember it somehow passing to Adonis Stevenson through Chad Dawson. I can't remember how, but think it came about through Joe Calzaghe retiring. So Dawson won some form of vacant lineal title, which I totally disagree with, should never have happened. Adonis Stevenson is no more than a top five light heavy. A dangerous but aging fighter who cherry picks.
