I see a lot of hype for this fight but don't expect fireworks as anyone shouldn't regarding an Andre Ward fight.
I won't attempt to break it down but is anyone expecting a Calzaghe vs Kessler type shut out ? A fight thoroughly competitive by round to round action yet each round stacking up collectively all in favour of Ward.
I see Krusher is an able boxer no expert pugilist just like Kessler really, a huge puncher with very good boxing nous but ultimately not elite when it comes to boxing skill aside from their huge one punch fight ending power.
I have calculated a 40% chance of this happening. Although it's unfair to compare Krusher to Kessler who in my mind was an OK boxer but not as complete as K is.
Kessler was more skilled than Kovalev. IMO he is the more complete.
See how Kessler negated Froch's jab in the rematch, he has the ability to adapt has Kovalev ? All real champions find a way to adjust mid fight, again can Kovalev upon the likelihood he falls behind on the cards versus Ward ? I am not convinced also Kovalev has shown he can lose his focus and has appeared to show malice against opposition before, that to me shows he has allowed it to become personal, professionals should never allow it to become personal.
I'm just hoping whoever wins, the ones who feel begrudged accept the winner and don't act like sensitive emotional wrecks like when Pac lost to Floyd.
Can't change the nutters, I speak for all the sensible ones that win/lose/draw the biggest fight of the year is finally here.. :boxing:
Everyone calm down...lol. Great fight, i think it'll have its own nuances. i fully expect Ward to pull it out. We have yet to see him fightg at 100% skill level. Although the truth can be said of Kovalev. What i dont put any stock in is this idea of a knockout happening. Ward is too skilled for that. He's smart enough to avoid Kov if he's in trouble. And typically speaking, Kov has power, but he doesnt have that one shot power that would make you worry about Ward. He usually accumulates damage after a number of rounds of handing out beatings.
Ward's own power is underrated he'll humble Kovalev and he won't be as adventurous as he was in the Chilemba fight. I'm struggling to see how Kovalev wins due to the fact I can't see him landing combinations.
You'll enjoy it better if you judge this fight on its own merit & not really act like my mom & try to compare with my friends to see why I did not do well in my exams..
All I would say is - Open a can of beer, kick back your feet & don't blink through the fight..
The best man will come on top & there is no sloppy seconds in this one..

Send me a link. And at what stage did I suggest these guys were alike ie Joe being Andre and Krusher being Mikkel, I wrote I see the situation unfolding similar did I not ?

I don't know, don't lol.
I just made a thread stating my state of mind going into the fight and the nirvana I am on right now and where my mind is at all week, so you can understand how I just don't want to "get into it" about this fight with anyone right now.

Ok so how I I reply to you without me alienating you ? This isn't a Tyson Fury thread.

asking me if i myself will be able to get over it if Ward wins? WTF is THAT all about
like i give a flying fvck whether he wins or not
my initial response of 'if Ward can take Kovalev's shots, this will be a tactical, IMO boring, UD' wasnt meant to cause him to menstruate
unless he has emotional ties to the outcome of this bout
i was commenting as a fight fan hoping for an entertaining fight
If Kovalev doesn't have anything to earn Ward's respect, this could be the typical Ward dissection and there's nothing wrong with that
if he cant and gets wobbled and actually has to adjust, THAT is what im referring to as an exciting fight
the butthurt wasnt necessary...he can save that for the fanboys
You're initial reply in the thread has all the hallmarks of a the delicate NSB posters butt hurt over the years through Ward's success, I'll apologise if you're genuinely a boxing fan and not one of these desperate to see Ward lose. However as I said you're posts suggests I have reason to believe I am correct.
Do you really believe you will be entertained ? As I asked, have you been previously entertained by Ward's fights ? Answer the question, no need to be evasive, you're not doing yourself a disservice by being honest with me and yourself.
No, no, and no.
As much as we argue about things on here scott I really am amazed at you reaching for a triangle theory-esque angle here, it's disappointing.
I'll say it once. Ward and Kov are not Joe and Kessler. Stop trying to draw parallels, it's simple minded and absurd.
Also your ending comment about Kovalev is so far from reality I don't want to bother ripping you for it because you will fight back and it will never end and I want to enjoy what will be a great fight without the childish drama around here.

?? Actually thought it was a pretty dry analysis. I don't get the impression that Scott gives much of a fuq who wins this, he just finds it an intriguing match, like all boxing fans should.
I'm way more guilty. My posts about this fight are admittedly very passionate because this is my World Cup. This is the thing that happens once every few years and both happen to be in my top 5 fave list so I'm giddy as hell.
Truth be told I don't wanna see a loser. Excited, YESSSSS. Loma and Walters the week after too, stoked aint the word.

that's an awfully emotional reply
i just want to see a good fight...if Ward wins, good for him...if Kovalev wins good for him
want a tissue?

Lmao. Do you sit down to take a slash ?
Dude your reply stunk of boiled ham, I highlighted that and have just been laughing about your response with my friends. Don't try and act like I'm the sensitive one, your own reply has INSECURE wrote all over it.
You want to see a good fight ? How did you feel when Ward beat Rodriguez, Abraham, Dawson, Froch and Kessler did you feel they were good fights ? I suspect if you didn't enjoy any of them you shouldn't watch the Kovalev fight unless you're a glutton for tormenting yourself.
I don't see it being that easy, but the more I ponder it, the more I find myself seeing Kovalev in a Kessler role. I do think Kovalev will be more aloof, prepared, and effective. He'll also have far better counter-punching than Kessler did. But, I can see him being turned into a frustrated fighter who is just a half step behind and never at range, like most high-profile Ward opponents find themselves. Joe and Andre are two of my favorite fighters and few people realize how similar they are in terms of strategy, psychology, and ring control.
A lot of people find that impossible to imagine Kovalev not being dominant, because they haven't seen it yet with their eyes. But, before the Chilemba fight, I told people that Kovalev can be out-maneuvered, frustrated, and that his inside game isn't there. We just saw shades of that in the Chilemba fight. Yes, Kovalev clearly won, but the things that bother him are things Ward does well.
Expect Kovalev to be given no space to work and when he is allowed to be in-range, it will be a trap. Don't be fooled by the idea that he's going to throw 400 big punches and that it's only going to require 1 to kill Ward. Andre will do his best to take that away. First, by stinging him. Giving him a negative consequence for missed punches will greatly reduce his output and willingness to put everything into his shots. Expect to see harder shots from Ward, a-la the Dawson and Kessler fights.
I respect Kovalev's ability enough to know that he could end it with a solid combo. That he's not just going to fall for every trick Ward throws his way. And, that he's clever enough to set his own traps. If I had to pick the most likely scenario though, it will be the above, with Kovalev just never finding the opportunity to work his game at his range, and finding himself worse off when he tries to force it.
Don't come into my thread and own the breakdown of exactly how I wanted to write how I expect it to play out...

no cause both calzaghe and kessler came to fight, throw punches and have exchanges. good, clean action, no fouls, no clinches.
Calzaghe never clinched no ?
if Ward is able to take Kovalev's shots, this should be a boring UD
if he can't, then we're all gonna be entertained like a motherfvcker
So if Ward has the durability to win he's going to win ? Everyone on the forum knows he can take a punch, only the ones who do not like him deny or refuse to accept it.
What about Chilemba he managed to take Krusher's shots and that fight was not overly exciting, if Krusher had raised his game or had the ability to find another gear he may have won, of course he may not have that other gear !
Do you believe Ward will take any credit if he beats Kovalev ? And more importantly do you think you'll be able to accept it ?
