Anyone know why this is?
Every time I turn around someone on this forum is trying to convince others that MMA is taking over boxing and that boxing is dead....
Can this be explained....
Are they disappointed at the fact that boxing isn't going anywhere? I mean it's been dying since the 80's and 90s if you listen to the chatter...
I take it with a grain of salt....
So many Ls here I'm not sure where to begin.
Are you just trolling with this shít logic, or are you legitimately brain damaged or something? Either way, you'll get no sympathy from me. You fúcked with the wrong bull on this one, bítch.
No one is shoving anything down anybody's throat. Mma fans are just noticing how a singular, major organization can operate more effectively than the current structure in boxing. Guys that watch both are naturally going to become disillusioned with the current situation in boxing and offer critiques that might help.
I'm a boxing fan first, kickboxing fan second, and MMA fan third. I'm not a member of any mma forum, or any other forum, for that matter. I have one username, one forum, and it's this one. Although I'm not on much, because I have a job and a family and other, much cooler shít that I do every day.
Nonetheless, I seriously doubt you know more about mma than I do simply because you've "been watching it since way back." So have a lot of other people, myself included. No fúcks given there. I apparently follow the sport more closely than you do, given your defensive position in this thread and your apparent dislike (or jealousy) of mma. Oh yeah, I also trained boxing, kickboxing (mt and international), bjj, judo, and other disciplines as part of a well-rounded mma routine. I've also trained with pro mma fighters and successful amateurs. My guess would be that you're an armchair fan that's never stepped in a ring in his life, so fúck what you think I know. Do you know how it feels to have a guy rip into your ribcage with non-stop hooks for two minutes straight as a conditioning drill? Or how it feels to be tossed around like a ragdoll your first day of jiu-jitsu? Oh you don't? Then sit back down and stfu.
So you choose to watch some no-name prospects on an ESPN card rather than watch an mma card with top names and competitive fights? Great. Not sure where you're getting this vibe that it's not okay to do so. Unless it's a ppv, I'd probably be doing the same thing, because I like watching boxing more than I like watching mma. But I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that A. The structure of boxing is anything but vastly inferior to mma, or B. that a boxer would stand a chance against an mma fighter anywhere other than a boxing ring.
A real fight fan appreciates all aspects of unarmed combat, from striking to grappling and everything in between. There's nothing wrong with being a boxing fan, but you're obviously an insecure, immature motherfúcker that can't handle the truth when it's right in front of him.
I'll jus digress. End it here. I'm not going to take your comments to heart in the sense that my feelings are hurt. I'm glad you provided your credentials. I digress. No use in us continuing to argue over the point.
I'm actually a registered Official with USA Boxing. I'm in the gym every week. I have events this weekend, to include a USIBA event.
I don't hate MMA. We butted heads, but your response shows me that you're in fold just as much as I am. I've trained in BJJ as well under an affiliated Lloyd Irvin gym where we had a Brown belt who has since become Black belt. I'm a white belt. There were literally blue belts that were 15, 16 years old and they were amazing. I haven't training in BJJ in about 4 years but I have a buddy who recently received his Blue belt about a month ago. We started together 4 years ago. I understand that belts in BJJ aren't just handed out, you legitimately have to put in work.
I solely focus on boxing now. I deal with many amateurs and they're an inspiration. I hope the work all Officials helps to make these young men and women's lives better.
I commend you for your work I don't want the impression that i'm an MMA hater to linger.
I fully support MMA, 100%. I am a Marine and All American Brian Stann is the man. I'm glad he represented us well. I've been following the UFC since the late 90s. I've seen how far they've come and I'm happy for them.
If you recall the Female Marine from a few years back who asked Justin Timberlake to the Marine Corps ball, I was at her MMA in Fairfax, VA, prior to her submitting that video because a good Marine friend of mines was one who helped to train her.
Long story short, we could go on and on, but I digress my man. I respect you. Keep doing your thing. I'm going to let the MMA thing die down because it's taken a turn to where the thought is that I hate MMA.
It's all good though man.
If your're in the D.C., area then we may verywell have crossed paths.
I salute you.
I'm done.

Boxing and MMA are just two different sports. And Dana White is a far better promoter than most boxing promoters and the commentators for the UFC are far better than boxing commentator's which are the two reasons why MMA is on the rise and boxing is on the slump. Mismatches happen in MMA as well but the writers of the sport will convince you that you're watching Hagler Hearns 2 when you're actually watching something far inferior.
Boxing writers sh*t on their own fighters. They attack other promoters and the fans follow suit. They are basically destroying their own sport from within and they are too stupid to realize it. THAT is the UFC in on the rise. Better promoters and better writers. The MMA guys praise their own while boxing fans crap on their own.
Agreed that the hype machine for the UFC is simply incredible. They ability for the UFC to convince people that Conor's two fights against a journeyman brawler were historical events in the global history of combat sports or Ronda was a world historical level athlete for the ages is simply breathtaking.
Boxing just focuses more on substance than hype. Boxing actually has the two best fighters in the world going at it in a week...
I guess the question is why boxing fans are insecure little ******* when it comes to UFC?
I guarantee you any attendee of a UFC event would never change that experience for any boxing event. Boxing is a game of mismatches right now. Nobody is really legitimately fighting top dog after top dog. It just doesn't happen and hasn't since the days of Oscar dela hoya probably.
That's some sad ass crap. And the events are boring as fuk, the same old shyt over and over.
Since getting into the UFC, I have to admit that I now understand why those guys think boxing is boring.
But you'll never get it until you get into it on your own.
I actually was far more into MMA before I was into boxing. I was doing Jiu-Jitsu long before I ever put on boxing gloves. Now I would watch boxing all day over MMA on average. Of course the bigger MMA fights like this weekend are more interesting than the average Tuesday night PBC card, but that's not really saying anything.
The whole "boxing is dying, we're taking over" is just part of the MMA culture, I can tell you that as someone who's spent time with numerous pro MMA fighters as well as your casual UFC fan at Buffalo Wild Wings. It comes for years of trying to get respect and legitimacy as a real sport versus boxing and its legendary past and cultural dominance.
The reality is both sports are niche in the broader sports world and should focus on simply growing their own sports instead of attacking each other..
I guess the question is why boxing fans are insecure little ******* when it comes to UFC?
Precisely. Current fighters are disgusting divas right now. They fight once a year and want to get overpaid for fighting cab drivers. We need fresh faces.
Floyd - Berto did 300K mostly because it happened after the Pacquiao fight. People were still hangovered after that joke of a fight. Hell, they still are.
Not saying it would've done much better if it happened before May 2, I'm thinking 600 - 800k.
As for McGregor - Berto doing better than Floyd - Berto, you are right. Why? Because MMAs biggest star would be fighting a former boxing champ with a name.
Now give me a MMA equivalent of Berto and put them in the ring against Floyd and see what happens...
MMA might be superior to boxing at the moment but boxing will always survive because of its history and its impact on culture and world in general (Louis/Schmeling, Ali, Tyson etc). Because unlike MMA, boxing has a history.
I just can't see MMA being still around or being as significant as it is today 20 years from now.
Mcgregor fought Mendes and Diaz, two fighters who were never champions unlike Berto and did much more.
So there's your answer.
I don't think UFC is going anywhere. Neither is boxing, but the whole set up is so much better and that doesn't look like it's going to change.
Why the UFC is more popular than Boxing in the states right now:
- Better promoting: They are using YouTube, Social Media far more effectively and embrace it rather than run away from it like Boxing. Boxing media are still keen on writing articles like anyone reads that **** anymore and neglect the internet, new media. You seen the UFC 205 trailer? Show me something in Boxing that is even close to that.
- Structure: The way MMA is setup, in terms of promotions makes it easier for the big fights to happen. Theres only 1 big show in town, and they hold more power. It's better for the fans but worse for the fighters. The average casual doesn't give two ****s about the fighter, they want to see some good fights with the big names. This leads to fighters being underpaid but having to take fights or remain inactive and not earn anything.
- No promoters squabbling: There are way too many issues in Boxing between promoters. Al Haymon/Mayweather inflated the market in terms of money and now fighters are expecting to be paid way more than they are worth. Berto was getting paid 1mill per fight. Only the TOP MMA fighters get paid anywhere near that. The P4P best in the UFC D.Johnson doesn't get paid that much lmao. This leads to fights not happening, especially when promoters want specific fights on their network, i.e. Frank Warren/Boxnation and Eddie Hearn/Sky.
MMA is better than Boxing when it comes to self-defense, this leads to many more people coming up training MMA rather than Boxing. I think Boxing will still be relevant for a long time BECAUSE Boxing gyms are usually cheaper, less gear needed and less injuries.
Lol. Is that a serious comment? Mayweather was a worldwide mega star when twitter, facebook & instagram were founded. Mcgregor was a complete unknown for years beyond their launches.
McGregor has done 4 straight PPVs with an average on 1.4million buys. for a sport with a much newer and smaller following than boxing, to do numbers that'll rival any boxer in history is pretty damn impressive.
And then I'd like to ask you which other fights you have seen Mendes, or Aldo or Diaz in? None probably which goes for the same as everyone else.
We saw what happened when Floyd fought someone who wasn't a star in Berto. 300k.
If McGregor fought Berto he would get 1M+ easy.
Floyd - Berto did 300K mostly because it happened after the Pacquiao fight. People were still hangovered after that joke of a fight. Hell, they still are.

There's a reason most of us stay out of the MMA threads, hell, when I showed up in this website around 2009, a MMA thread wouldn't last 2 minutes in NSB without getting destroyed, look at this shyt now, constant threads in NSB like somehow the MMA sub menu has been removed.
You wanna talk MMA, go to sherdog or go into the MMA menu, that shyt is unacceptable in NSB. I don't give 2 shyts about fantasy fight between Floyd vs MMA fighter or any other boxer for that matter. When a MMA fighter is in boxing ring schooling a top boxer without kicking them, holla at me.
So insecure :lol1:
Mma fighters can certainly rain down elbows while in a top position, except in Pride, where elbows weren't allowed because of cuts. Stomping/soccer kicking a downed opponent was allowed in Pride, however.
Mma doesn't favor grapplers, fighting does. Boxing/kboxing fans have this delusion that only striking wins fights. It certainly helps, but the vast majority of fights (yes, even street fights) end up on the ground, and if you're clueless with grappling/jiu jitsu, it's bad news for you.
Mma is not a no-rules street fight, but it's a million miles closer than boxing, which is why I can admit that (even though boxing is my favorite sport) a boxer doesn't stand much chance against an mma fighter, unless it's in a boxing ring with boxing rules.
But fighting isn't boxing, is it? Boxing is only one aspect of hand-to-hand combat.
Fighting or grappling, it's still hand-to-hand combat. What I'm trying to say is that there are certain moves that a UFC fighter can't do to an opponent when they're lying on their back/pulling guard or on the ground:
- no headbutts
- no eye pokes
- no eye gouging
- no biting
- hair pulling
- soccer kicks
- stomping, kicking or kneeing the head of a ground opponent
- fish hooking
- groin attacks
- small joint manipulation
- striking downward using the point of the elbow
- striking to the spine or the back of the head
- kicking to the kidney with a heel
- throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea etc...
There are a grip of rules that clearly favors the ground fighter which makes it unrealistic. A street fight is totally different because anything goes. And a majority of the time it starts off standing (Boxer always has the advantage here) then it goes to grappling and then to the ground.
Okay, so how about a guy around Floyd's weight class? Mcgregor, Dos Anos, Aldo.. And not in a boxing ring. Anywhere else...
Floyd gets handled. Easy. Real fùckin easy. Like 1-2 minutes tops and it's RNC time. And this is a Floyd fan talking. A boxing fan.
And don't put it past a girl, and her vagina and PMS and whatever the fùck, to put a hurting on a guy. I've seen it happen. Burly dude, muscles and all, got tossed and twisted up like a pretzel by a chick that was 50 lbs lighter. No bullshít. True story.
That was what jiu-jitsu was designed for: using an adversary's strength and momentum against them and manipulating joints and applying chokes to defeat a stronger opponent.
Royce Gracie was heavily outweighed by nearly opponent he faced in the first four UFC tournaments, and he fúcked them all up with his brain, not his brawn. And yeah, tournaments motherfúckers, 3-4 fights per event. Ever see a boxer fight 4 times in one night, and finish each guy? Gracie did it at UFC 2.

Bingo. Exactly this. A mate of mine got me in to watching UFC and I have to admit I fell in love with MMA. The excitement in genuinely not knowing who will win is thrilling, something you experience very rarely in boxing sadly. Used to love boxing, but it got to a point where boxing never gave f**k all back to you as a fan.
UFC retards doe:
"Whonda Rowsee kud beet FRoid Maiwetter eezzie":pat:
She would fuk his ass up badly in the octagon most likely.
I don't know anyone who said she could beat Mayweather in the ring, that's freaking retarded.

Ha. Why are you butt hurt?
You're the douche who gets all butt hurt because I don't agree with people like you shoving the MMA agenda down boxing fan's throats.
I would be money I know more about MMA history than you do.
I've been watching it since way back....yet it has no influence at all on whether or not I choose to watch boxing...
It could be the most stacked MMA card on versus an ESPN Friday Night Fight and I'd choose the ESPN boxing over an MMA card. My preference.
What I don't get is idiots like you who keep trying to convince boxing fans that MMA is taking over and that Boxing is losing fans to MMA....
Ok, ding dong, any boxing fan who consider boxing to be their favorite sport has a choice to watch both. MMA can be as popular as you make it out to be but it isn't going to stop any true boxing fan from watching boxing.
It's simpletons like you that try to convince people that it is. The thing is, you idiots keep trying to convince boxing fans on a boxing forum as though you're getting some type of incentive!!
Is that you Mike Pyle? Is that you Dennis Siver? Is that you Chael Sonnen?
Haha...idiot....
YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT!!!!
Go post on Sherdog or MMA Junkie. How about trying to convince MMA fans that boxing is dead? Not rocket science.

Have to disagree with you on that because the UFC has rules too. UFC caters to the ground fighters and favors grapplers so a fighter can't use soccer kicks or reign down elbows and stuff like that when they pull guard on the ground.
Street fight is different, anything goes and there are more variables to it. A MMA fighter pulls guard in a real street fight, he's getting his head stomped on. And if a wrestler can't take you down, he's fked. Cain vs Junior 1 is a perfect example, Cain couldn't take Junior down and got ktfo. And besides, MMA stand-up is horrendous compared to boxers.
Mma fighters can certainly rain down elbows while in a top position, except in Pride, where elbows weren't allowed because of cuts. Stomping/soccer kicking a downed opponent was allowed in Pride, however.
