Obviously GGG has stayed on top longer but Pavlik fought much better competition in Taylor, Martinez, and Hopkins. Pavlik's wins over Taylor are better then any win GGG has and took more risks. He was also suppose to fight Andre Ward and Paul Williams but injuries prevented them from happening.
My question is who wins head to head and who is the better middleweight as of right now?
Lets be fair though. Jermain Taylor was a joke. Who should have lost twice to hopkins.
Exactly, I had Hopkins winning both of those fights. Taylor badly hurt Pavlik but didn't jump on him effectively. GGG would be the tougher of the 2 and would most likely hit harder, I cant see Pavlik even lasting 9 rounds against GGG
Had... Isn't it funny how people were always talking... if only he used his jab if only he went back to his jab. Its funny how his elite jab stopped working vs elite fighters isn't it?
Jermain Taylor is another Chad Dawson. An intellectual midget with athleticism. Who never deserved to be on top.
Opinionated as ever I see....
C'mon. You're so wrong here.
He had a combination of skill and size that made people think he would have a long reign as MW champ. Can't scoff him off like that. He had an elite level jab as well.

Everyone here seems to think Kelly magically deteriorated after Hopkins.
Bhop is not favorite guy of NSB members,im here for 3 weeks, and i can see that most ppl here think that he is overrated.
Wrong. He outboxed Jermain Taylor the 2nd time but nice try. Thank you, come again.

How was that not prime Pavlik? He looked at his best in that fight. He did virtually nothing wrong.

Marco Antonio Rubio was KO'd by a past prime Pavlik, but then went on to KO David Lemieux so by your boxrec logic that you use to discredit every other fighter I'd have to say Pavlik KOs Lemieux.

I like that fight, would be fun while it lasted. Both guys could take a shot but I think that GGG could take Pavlik's but not the other way around. GGG via TKO-mid rounds.
It took Pavlik 9 rounds to do so, it took GGG 2.
That guy said David Lemieux KOs Pavlik, which I disagreed with based on Lemieux's fight with Rubio. GGG vs Pavlik is a whole different story. I think if GGG got Pavlik hurt like JT did he'd finish the job, but Pavlik would hang in for a bit.

i dont think pw was special but the sergio that fought him was. 3g never fought a guy like sergio; speed, power, lefty and a chin. i feel 3g would have beaten pw as well. sol might have been too big even at mw.
the biggest problem with pw was he CONSTANTLY smothered his own punches. he was his worst opponent. i dont see flaws with prime sergio. his pride got him fncked up in the final rd vs sol. had he just boxed and cruised to the wide ud, he might still be fighting.
i see 3g beating most face first types like j jackson (ill give 3g the benefit of the doubt he could take jj's punch a couple of times).
I promise you friend Martinez wasn't special. He was kind of an athletic freak but without that deep amateur background, he would never have the tools to beat Golovkin. There're things you learn in the amateur that you just don't have the time to learn when starting boxing at 20.
I feel Martinez is certainly Hall of Fame worthy but I followed most of his career and you can tell he struggles with well-disciplined fighters (Pavlik, Murray, Macklin, Barker) and his natural gifts pulled him out in the end. This gifts won't be enough against one of the most prolific amateurs ever who quite frankly has a style that would be Martinez's worst nightmare.
There's a reason Martinez never wanted to face Golovkin but instead Murray and Barker and there's a reason that Martinez has such high praise for Golovkin.
He knows a fight between them would have resulted in him winning the first 4 rounds before being cut-off and beaten around the ring.
Skills trump style. I can't see how the guy that was down on the scorecards through 8 and dropped by Macklin is going to win more than 4 rounds against a vastly more gifted fighter with more experience.
the sergio that fought williams beats up 3g with ease.
Nah. I don't rate Williams that high. His record his nonexistent above 147. He barely has a record at 147 and nearly all of that is erased by him being slapped around by Quitana.
Golovkin batters Martinez from either William fights and Williams himself. No debate the fights wouldn't be close.
Do you feel Williams was special? Above 147? Why?
Lets talk about fighters who would actually stand chance.
Nope, Golovkin beats Martinez in a fight that wouldn't be all that competitive after 4 or 5 rounds.
Martinez was going life and death with Macklin and Barker because of their textbook styles and amateur experience.
Martinez started far to late and would be outgunned by the amateur stand out and wrecking ball pro. There're levels to this and Martinez just started too late to hang with a fighter on Golovkin's level.
Resumes don't win fights. Fighters win fights.
Golovkin beats Martinez and Pavlik.
Martinez's body was falling apart at that time. There is a movie on netflix called Maravilla, la película (2014). You should watch this movie. It documents his career during that time in the lead up to the JCCjr fight. You'll see that the the version of Martinez during that time was falling apart and to think that he went on to beat those guys.
BS! Superior? Golovkin's resume is no where near Martinez's resume. Martinez will be hitting this guy from all type of angles. It'll more than likely be similar to Martinez vs JCC in Martinez's favor if he faced GGG. If lesser opponents could reach out and touch GGG then no doubt Martinez would mark him up.
Marvilla >>>> GGG

It should be noted Pavlik's only losses are to Martinez and Hopkins. 2 guys who moved well and could counter beautifully. Something GGG isn't accustomed to doing. Could be a 12 round war or at some point one goes to sleep.
