I got it, Ward is preparing to fight a top 3 P4P fighter in Kovalev, while Pacquiao is retiring and after the Bradley fight he said he's not sure if he's going to fight again, anyways it's clear that he's going to retire soon so at this point I don't care where people place him on their P4P lists.
But can anybody explain me what's the criteria for everybody placing Ward above him? Don't get me wrong, I don't like his boxing but I respect him and it's going to be a tough fight for Kovalev. If he beats him I'm surely going to place him over Pacquiao on my P4P list but as long for now I don't see the criteria for placing him above Pacquiao.
If it's for fighting the better opposition - Pacquiao just won against Bradley, while Ward was fighting cans, couldn't even knock out a bum. Vargas is a way tougher fight for Pacquiao than Barrera was for Ward.
Again, if it's about the way they performed, Pacquiao schooled a top welter in Bradley, knocking him down 2 times while Ward did the same to a can and even got angry at Hunter in between rounds 11 and 12 for urging him to KO the colombian but he couldn't finish the job.
Please don't go off topic.
so you support/encourage figthers not taking risks? for example ward's last 5 years. if pac fought that level of comp the last 5 years he wouldn't have been knocked out so what does that prove? pac has better wins hence he is better.
Stefan already brought me to my senses.
Comme on man, Pacquiao took much bigger risks fighting A level fighters trough out all of his career, of course there was a big risk of him getting KTFO in one of those fights, and he won most of them. What was he supposed to do, fight nothing but Algieris and Rios' for 10 straight years? When he chose to fight them people were saying he's a cherrypicker.
Well I disagree with that, to me the 0 means nothing but ok if that's your opinion. I would understand people saying that he got an L on his record just 2 fights ago so that's why they don't put him above Ward. It would be crazy not to admit that he slowed down but personnally I think he performed better than Ward in recent fights and all that against the better opposition. I also think people are asking more from Pac than from Ward because they still want him to be a wrecking machine he once was before he slowed down. Yes he slowed a lot but with Brook leaving the WW division I still see him as the best welterweight today.
I guess the super six was a long time ago. Got me there.
I'm gonna try to be nice. Ever see Ward comatose in the ring?
Face planted in the canvas???
That is my answer. Please never post again. Thank you

It's the losses that keep me from getting there. I'm not a guy who is mystified by the '0', but it's hard for me to overlook the losses when comparing two very talented guys.

No man, I said I wouldn't care too much even if boxing media didn't include Pacquiao at their P4P lists at all, he's on his way out and I didn't made this topic to cry about it, he proved himself and head incredible career. I just wanted to know the criteria for placing Ward above him. I admit I don't like Ward but I respect him and recognize him as a top level figher so I don't really want to cry here for people placing him at P4P no1 or 2 spot, however he did nothing special at this point. My belief is that boxing media is placing him that high in order to promote the Kovalev fight. Now if he beats him I would surely recognize him as P4P no 2 just bellow Chocolatito, but not before it happens. Like boliodogs said I think Pacquiao is fighting better for his weight. And I also think he's right when saying that their wins from 5 or 6 years ago shouldn't count that much (maybe they should to some extent but not too much in my opinion), but I think their recent performances should be more important. OK Pacquiao underperformed against Mayweather (who was P4P no 1) in my opinion too, but Marquez fight happened in 2012.
I pretty much agree.

Ward is viewed as the better fresher fighter, that is pretty much it.
I could see it going either way really because both are getting a lot of career credit at this point.
4-2 in his last 6.
2 of those 4 wins being pretty uncompelling.
The other 2 being the same guy both times.
Come on, I love Manny too but don't blind yourselves guys.

Pound for pound is strictly opinion based and can't be proven unless the boxers in question actually fight each other. Obviously Ward can't fight Pacquiao. Pound for pound is supposed to be based on how good fighters are in their weight class, right now, today. Their fights of years ago shouldn't matter. What matters is how good they are fighting now. Some are giving Ward a high pound for pound ranking based on what he did 5 or 6 years ago in the super six tournament and not on his most recent fights. That's fine for resume rankings but not for pound for pound which should be based on recent fights and not on fights of many years ago. If you think Pacquiao is fighting better for his weight than Ward is for his weight right now then rank Pacquiao higher than Ward. I do.

I absolutely agree with you. After Pac lost to Floyd, he kinda fell off everyone's radar. IMO he still retains a top3 P4P spot, while Ward does not deserve one due to inactivity.
