Politics guys ...Strictly politics... I'm surprised after billions of threads you still try to find any Boxing logic in there... That fight will come when the $$$ stars are aligned, and the more they wait the more butter on the bread...
I also think Kovalev wanted to hear nothing about Stevenson last couple years other than to keep the hype alive.
Pascal vs Stevenson was and probably still is a huge money fight in Montreal, Quebec. It's similar to Khan vs Brook in UK. Which means the demand is huge locally. But for some unexplainable reason Stevenson doesn't want it. They're both Quebecers, both of Haitian descent, both in the same division. But he'd rather deny his fellow Quebecers the fight. If legacy is not what this guy is after, then what the hell does he want?
What! You really think you're smarter than HeroBando?
Read that quote slowly and carefully:
Read this slowly and carefully:
Stevenson has no resume worth mentioning. He is a nobody.
Not only did he duck Hopkins, Kovalev and Pascal, all very blatantly then act like he wanted to fight them afterwards each time when the chance had passed -- I'm not even sure he deserved to be in the ring with them to begin with. He is a sub-standard opponent. He was very lucky to have the chance to "duck" fighters he isn't on the same level as.
The guy has not done anything of note. He is trash. He is not even a top LHW. He is now 40 years old and still doesn't really have a win worth mentioning. His career highlights are catching a horrifically washed up, journeyman-level Chad Dawson cold and trading knockdowns with a previously unknown Fonfara. The rest is not worth skimming.
Reminds me of a more extreme version of when Bute beat Librado Andrade and became a big topic just because the super six winner needed a hypothetical rival. Nobody really stopped to ask if being Librado Andrade was a big deal. We just needed Bute to be a devil's advocate floating around out there. At least Bute eventually stepped it up though. Stevenson is retiring as a sideshow.
Nobody would be talking about Stevenson anymore of the real champion (Kovalev) hadn't needed a hypothetical rival. And now that he has a real one people should forget Stevenson exists -- until he gets a noteworthy win at least.
Stevenson was extremely lucky -- having no noteworthy victories and basically being a bogeyman -- to have the opportunity to duck Hopkins, Kovalev and Pascal.
Please let me know
Adonis has refused to fight anyone since his win over Dawson. I don't know if u need someone to explain to you how reasoning and logic work, but this is very strong evidence. And haymon is getting him 7 figures to beat cans. So no reason to fight anyone given he loses to any top five LHW IMO.
Because they like Kovalev better. Them's the rules.
yea...the promoters and networks had nothing to do with it
Aduckis Chickenson is a coward....Andre Co-Ward...Who Necks!!!!
Ah. Thanks.
:lol1: Yea right, keep dreaming. Stevenson had a puncher's chance at best.
And that's where Stevenson is at his best, a punchers chance!
He'll have 36 mins to do what Kov isn't use to, fighting while in trouble.
The longer the fight drags on the better chances for Kov to come out victorious I admit.
probably cause he could have fought him any time over the last 2 years after the purse bid went down the drain but look at the guys he chose to fight instead. now hes finished with no ratings, no audience, and no money. justice for ducking for once.
Joking aside-- There were talks about Stevenson fighting Kovalev but Stevenson's team backed out because they wanted to fight Hopkins for more money. How Kovalev got the fight with Hopkins and not Stevenson is the mystery to me.
Hopkins had the WBA and IBF titles and Thomas Williams Jr was rated #1 in the IBF. Haymon kept delaying so that Hopkins deadline for defending his IBF would pass in order to get him stripped so Williams could fight for a vacant title and Hopkins being Hopkins wasn't going to let anybody play him.
stevenson also ducked hopkins and pascal
he's basically got nothing for a resume
i don't even understand why he's touted as a top lhw or a rival for kovalev
not even sure i blame him for ducking kovalev
what does he have to bring to the table? a win over a horrifically washed up god i dont even remember his name. the guy who lost to pascal and karpency. that fight made stevenson's "career". turned out to be his entire career in fact.

Read that quote slowly and carefully:
That best describes Kovalev...he's been on cruise control since the 2nd Boone fight.
Stevenson has more punchers on his resume than Kovalev.
Duva isn't putting Kov in with anybody that can bang.
I'm not reading all that junk, Stevenson's track record since signing with Haymon speaks for itself.
In 2013, instead of paying Stevenson & Kovalev fairly, HBO were playing with both parties. Waiting to give a long term contract to the winner of this expected bout, rather than paying and signing both opponent under a long term deal.
So after HBO failed to match Showtime offer, Stevenson moved to Showtime. That's when HBO realised they had no choice to do what they were supposed to do since the beginning, by finally settle down a long term agreement with Kovalev. So whether team Kovalev like it or not, it's through Stevenson if Sergey won his spot at HBO.
Means in fact, Kovalev signed his deal with HBO (AFTER) Stevenson went to Showtime, I didn’t say before, I said Kovalev signed AFTER.
And now that Haymon manage to open more options for all boxers, Kovalev re-signed another contract with HBO (AFTER) his 1st victory over Jean Pascal (by jumping over 2 WBC purse bids), which clearly show how team Kovalev were just bluffing all along about Stevenson.

Look! Kathy Duva, who lobbied for this purse bid in 2014, labeled Haymon as an “obstructionist”. By presenting herself to the WBC convention in mid December 2014, asking the WBC President to make the winner of the WBC Diamond belt, mandatory to Stevenson. Therefore, Sergey Kovalev TKO Jean Pascal on 03/15/2015, and following the WBC regulation about the free negociation period, the WBC ordered the purse bid for April 17, after (33) days. Even if Sergey Kovalev pulls out the purse bid on 04/15/2015, while he was a free agent, the WBC decided to wait until Kovalev re-signed with HBO on 05/18/2015 and reset another purse bid for 05/29/2015, which Team Kovalev turn down again for a second time.
In December 2015, Al Haymon says OK it's all good, "You have a new TV boss but you still refuse to setup a purse bid for your fighter, (I hear you); Therefore, instead of the purse bid, lets make the TV work together". Kathy didn't even tried to ask her HBO Sport president Nelson, she just rejected the idea with a (I don't want to hear it).
- What does that mean ?: (I don't want to hear it)
- It's like instructing all reporters, (don't ask me this question), WHY ?
- Why would she refuse to only talk about the option of connecting the TV together with Mr. Nelson, if it's a solution for everybody to make good money, and avoid an HBO breach of contract; Why rejecting all options ?
Team Kove/Duva build up Kovalev's reputation by making the audience believe Stevenson was running away from him, when in FACTS, they never wanted any part of a pissed off Stevenson, which they used to maximize Kovalev reputation for almost 2 years. An angry Stevenson would make Kovalev swallow his own teeth.

Kovalev was making 10k a few years prior. He's not jeopardizing an Hbo exclusive deal for this duck. Stevenson was welcome to face him on Hbo, the more prestigious platform. It's a shame he prefers no namers to poor ratings and fan turnout
Back then in 2013, when Duva had Kovalev, she was ready to sacrifice him for few bucks, her company was broke, with Curtis Stevens as the best boxer from her team. She was really upset when her company couldn't make that 1.3 million with a rematch clause, by fighting Stevenson. But when she manage to get Hopkins in the ring, and strip him from his 2 championship Belts; Kovalev automatically saved Main Events promotions.
When he fought Jean Pascal, he brought money Kathy Duva thought she would never see again in her life. So even if Kovalev contract was terminated with HBO, she rethought about the turn of events, just to realise she couldn't take the risk to match the only valuable boxer she have against Stevenson, no F way.
*God sent Kovalev to me, and I know why God did what he did when he made Stevenson leave HBO for Showtime.
For Duva, Kovalev should never fight Stevenson, she know he'll lose.
As of Kovalev, he goes with the flow. Blind fans wants to believe Stevenson want no part of him, when in facts it's Kovalev team who's avoiding the purse bid. So Kovalev goes along with his lies, trash talks and TV commercials clips, which he use to boost his image without having to fight his only menace. Talk is so cheap, Boxing needs legendary fights to avoid it decline, Boxing needs Kovalev vs Stevenson, period.
Right, this is the guy that got stripped of his Rung belt for being a lousy champ
