Beating a 50 year old legend doesn't cut it, sorry....
He's the run of the mill Russian fighter who just so happened to catch fire during a down time at LHW...
He needs to beat Andre Ward, which he won't, to even have a legacy....if he doesn't win, nobody's gonna remember him 30 years from now...
Andre's legacy has secured for 5 years.
I know you Kovalev fans will be butt hurt...
I agree that his resume isn't great. But, I think his talents far exceed what his resume has been able to prove. We won't have a real gauge for that until he fights Ward, which is another reason Nov is so exciting. I expect we'll see another level from both men. Or, at least, I hope.
AND the agenda kicks in bbbbut his talent bbbut this bbbbut that notice the pathetic sniveling attempt to hype something up quite pathetic but this is the demographic we're dealing with but you know what is even more funnier...
Ward doesn't have a better win than Kovalev that's right his 50yo Bhop win is better than beating Froch not unless you want to pride the fact over that fight he should have been DQed in but wasn't due to that American flag oh the hard adversity poor little Ward has had to deal with robbing a gold medal and headbutting and clinching one of the best SMW's about at the time.

Yep so this is basically why Ward beating him won't make him P4P #1, Ward legacy is unimpressive he beat a flat footed plodder who's best assets are taking a shot to the chin and plodding forward to take more then he fouled his way to a win over Kessler many years after Joe Calzaghe beat him fair and square so I don't count his Kessler win.
Yes indeed, neither of these two deserve to be P4P 1

I am a Kovalev fan and I am not the least bit butt hurt by your post. I just laugh off your stupid and incorrect statements about Kovalev. I love being a Kovalev fan and it bothers me not that he has some haters. Every really outstanding boxer gets their share of haters. It just comes with the territory. Average fighters never get big hate groups because they aren't worth the trouble.

I know you Kovalev fans will be butt hurt... Here is a news flash for you. It isn't his win over Hopkins that makes him special. Anybody with a slight knowledge of boxing and some common sense knew he figured to beat Hopkins easily. What makes him special is a record of 30 wins, no losses and 1 draw with 26 KO wins. That plus winning a world light heavyweight title in his 22nd fight and defending that title successfully 8 times with 6 KOs and winning 2 more light heavyweight world titles. Very few light heavyweights of the past can equal or top these accomplishments. Are you supposed to be the great authority who decides now is a downtime at LHW? You say he is just a run of the mill Russian fighter. Somehow you seem to have missed the fact that Russian fighters are kicking a hell of a lot of butt in boxing today. You have no idea who will win the Kovalev vs Ward fight. You are just guessing the winner like the rest of us. You don't have a crystal ball and you don't know the future before it happens. If Kovalev KOs Ward then where is Ward's legacy? If both Ward and Kovalev retire today and never fought then Kovalev would go down in history as a better light heavyweight than Ward. Ward hasn't fought a top guy since Dawson 4 or 5 years ago. Ward's legacy improves more with a win over Kovalev than Kovalev's legacy improves with a win over Ward.
Gonna be hilarious when Kovalev uses his usual destruction gloves. Did you hear? He has been preparing his hands for good ol' SOG
Which are his "destruction gloves"? His usual Grants or the Cleto Reyes he used in the second Pascal fight?
LHW doesn't have the deepest history so he will likely be remembered purely as someone who managed to unify three out of four titles. that will make him significant in retrospect
he needs to beat ward and stevenson to get into the hall of fame though imo

No, of course he ain't yet in the grand scheme of things, but TBH neither is Ward really. Beating Kessler and Froch - both of whom had been beaten before - doesn't make you some kinda ATG.
Why you bothered about legacies anyway? Best leave that to the boxing historians and fans of the future. Why not just enjoy the fights, brah?:boxing:
I remember Chad Dawson beating a younger Hopkins twice.Andre wouldn't go up a division to fight him though.Maybe he thinks Kovalev is nothing special so now it's safe to go up a weight.
