Im just going to go out on a limb and say he went into this fight not wanting to hurt his hands and had no fear of losing to Chilemba. He dropped him in the seventh and knew he was going to win going away and got some experience against an awkward dude. His gloves are noticeably bigger to me and Im not one of these guys who cant be wrong. Is he wearing 14 oz gloves? 16oz? Those arent sparring gloves are they?
To lessen the impact. Get some rounds in against Chilemba. Kovalev is a stud..
Is this a real thread, or an insult to boxing fans?
They gotta wear gloves that weight the sane, and are approved by the commission. There are different makers, so slopight variations, but these days all kinds of colors.
Being more fatiguing definitely hinders his ability to KO a guy
Guy, give it up. You were wrong. It's OK.
Love the Clinton sigs though.
WHy, does ward make people wear bigger glove than him?
Ward doesn't and can't.
Those weren't 14 oz gloves though. There's not enough in the wrists to be 14. They would not change his ability to KO a guy. Only offer a little more protection for his hands.
if that was the case, everyone would wear them
Wrong. The slight difference in weight is more fatiguing over a dozen rounds and hundreds of punches.

Did you? My bad, I didn't see the post, I was skimming pretty fast and that one caught my eye.
Sorry :)
No worries. If I knew you were going to be so polite about it I wouldn't have been such a prick.
:beerchug:
Would it kill ya to upload some pics? Put a lil effort into it
The gloves were the same size -- except that Kovalev's were white...

Which is what I said in a previous post... If you just like quoting me though, have at it. :)

No they were actually smaller. Kovalevs power is overrated and Ward will laugh every time he gets hit.
ward will eat kovalev's punches and walk forward and knock kovalev out margarito style
Anyone who thinks his gloves were bigger are DELUSIONAL. The state athletic commissions mandate 10oz gloves for bouts over 147lbs. Period, end of...
Fight Location: Russia
He might have to wear biggr gloves now. His knuckles might not handles 10oz gloves anymore. When you hits so hard it happen and he fight so often, he give little to no rest to his hands. The same pair of gloves are sold in 14/16oz though

Can we get some links in this thread?
Also.. if those gloves were in fact bigger.. isn't that illegal? I think all alphabet bodies say it's 10 oz gloves from WW to HW.
Kovalev didn't look spectacular against Chilemba but he was solid.
The real reason, in my opinion, is in his last couple of fights, he has only trained with John David Jackson for the last 2 weeks or so of his training camp. I'm not sure why...maybe to save money? But he needs a full camp with Jackson to prepare for Ward.
He said it was to save his hands for Ward.
Seems strange though, does this mean he feels his hands are becoming shot?
in the same interview he mentioned that he hurt his hand in the pascal rematch
It's very hard to tell a glove's weight from online photos. Different foam/hair densities and distribution, some 10 oz look bigger than 12. Just have to take his word for it. Probably a wise choice to protect his hands in less important fights.
