yea PBC failed to consistently deliver compelling fights. Why is that? Well, it goes back to their initial business model of overpaying fighters in order to corner the market
I dont know why PBC doesnt have a spokesperson. It doesnt have to be haymon, he can stay private as long as he wants,
but it would really benefit PBC if they had someone, who answers some question or lay out some future plans.
With them being so secretive, its their fault, that everyone is speculating that PBC is broke.
PBC is not dead but it doesnt look top good:gives:
I was really looking forward to what PBC seemed to try to do.Have a league with all the fighter under it ufc-ish but they failed mostly because they didn't make the matchups the fans wanted to see....
Too many channels
Too many channels is def an issue but at the end of the day PBCs problem is simple. That matchups suck. Yes there have been some good cards and yes there have been a few marquee fights, but not nearly enough.
If they had good fights and good match ups on a consistent basis, it would have caught on with casuals and been much more successful. Unfortunately the greed of individuals is preventing everyone from prospering
If Haymon wanted to take the UFC model and apply it to boxing, he forgot one thing. The UFC is an organization with it's own champions, there are no sanctioning bodies controlling the order of fighter ranks and multiple champions.
Back when PBC first launched, there was rumor that belts were being created and each weight class would end up with a PBC champion. If that had happened, there would have been tournaments set up to crown a champ, and an actual narrative to the fighters paths.
Doing something like that would have been revolutionary to the sport of boxing. Eliminate the 3rd wheel (the sanctioning bodies) and just create a central product for boxing. Now, this wouldn't have necessarily hurt the other networks as I would assume if the model worked out as intended, they would follow suit and HBO and Showtime would have their own roster with their own champs, similar to other MMA orgs like Bellator and Raizon. This may have increased the amount of top fights we would see as each would be competing for the gold standard of being the best.
I said it from day one and certain PBC fanboys were telling me I was wrong.
The PBC model was very confusing. Biggest mistake they made was the the fact that they had no consistency. Fight cards on different days of the week at different time slots and on a plethora of networks. It was hard to keep up with it. Sometimes I wouldn't even know there was a PBC card on until AFTER it aired.
If you want to build a fan base you need consistency.
Thought people wanted PBC to fail and go away right? :lol1: Now they asking "What Is Going On With PBC?" :nonono:
I don't think anything is going on, Olympics may have ruined Summer Plans for them. Too late to setup fights in October, November is Full so maybe a December return with hopefully some big match ups just have to wait and see but I thought people would be HAPPY that it hasn't been much PBC lately base on the way some bash it

But smaller purses and smaller production budgets doesn't change a single thing I said. He still has more champions and more power than ever.
Arum still has less power than ever.
And Oscar has one fighter.
HBO's budget has been cut so much that it's basically the same as Showtime. Haymon controls basically the entire Showtime budget.
Arum, Oscar, Roc Nation, K2 and others all have to split the HBO budget.
So Haymon is the biggest player and that is clearer than it's ever been.He has more champions, thats it. More champions, that aren't even fighting on a regular basis.
Great way to grow a business. Rarely put it out for the paying fans to actually see.
Flop.
Methinks your anger is very much misguided here.
Perhaps you should take a step back and ask yourself why no investor has ever given that type of war chest nor has any network committed that amount of TV time to any plan those two nor any other entity in boxing has ever attempted.
Instead of sitting around waiting to mindlessly suck off the annual HBO/SHO boxing budget announcement teat, Haymon went out and found someone willing to put up REAL money and networks to commit PRIMETIME slots to this sport.
This is actually pure BS....
The money came primarily from what we can see from a number of Mutual Funds, whose fund manager was Haymon's buddy.
That fund manager invested in PBC even though that investment was borderline questionable.
Now that fund manager works for Haymon. Go figure.
So only 1 guy made the decision to invest... unfortunately he controlled a huge warchest of other investor's capital.
I don't see any other mutual funds investing in Haymon or PBC, especially those that found PBC and did not have an existing relationship with Haymon.
No. Haymon had $434 million to burn and the others didn't. Give the same huge amount to Arum or Oscar, plus PBC fighters and both would have made more quality fights than Haymon. $434 million in one year is not what you call "dried up."
Actually Haymon had close to $1 Billion to burn.... not a mere $434 million.
His hedge fund/mutual fund buddy that now works for him steered plenty of capital to PBC and Haymon from investors who had no freaking clue what PBC even was.
none of us know how much money haymon has left, but he has over a dozen world champions and has showtime locked up by the balls.
arum has NOTHING.
oscar has ONE FIGHTER.
haymon is in the driver's seat.
When was the last showtime show and the next one?
Off topic, but saw your gif. When is Yarde going to step up his level of opposition from bums to cab drivers? His opponent's combined record so far is like 25 wins against 183 losses
Only been Pro for a Year and only has 8 Pro Fights it is going to be awhile. This is not a smaller division he fights at Light Heavyweight so I don't see them rushing him along and they shouldn't not when fighting this high in weight

Haymon should have waited till Richard was free to promote again and then build up the PBC company with Richard as the face. He was a very smart guy it seemed.
What happened in simple: with all the bullocks Haydon fed audiences last year and the sheer lack of viewers or creation of stars, channels have run out of confidence to use up more dates.
There were plenty of dates but were canceled. Fighters won't accept less than $1 mil per fight.
Hell what happened to boxing period is the better question.....
You've been following boxing. You know why boxing is going the way it is. Boxers, promoters, networks, and the fans are to blame for this shit.
Boxers - wanting lots of money for easy fights. Much more for fights with risks.
Promoters - Same deal with milking.
Networks - being idiots and paying for the fights when they knew were shit.
Fans - for praising easy fights just cause they like a boxer.
Back when PBC first started and people were saying that Haymon was going to be boxing's Dana White, myself and quite a few others pointed out that the UFC model wouldn't work in boxing, because, unlike MMA before Dana White, boxing is awash with money.
If Al had taken the same, "company first, fighter second" approach as Dana, there would be no incentive for anybody to sign with him, especially not big name fighters.
Yeah mate, i remember people raising questions, and anyone who raised any questions about the set-up was immediatley shot down with being a Haymon hater.
