He likely keeps making the weight comfortably for another 12-18 months, before physically needing to move up. I wouldn't say comfortably, from what I understand it is incredibly difficult for him to get down but he has found a way to do it. I don't think it will be easy at all for him to drop that extra pound today. Simply going off of the eyeball test; Alvarez was walking around for press week, engaging with the fans, looked to be already on weight, and didn't look like utter **** (eyes weren't sunken, he didn't seem to be on edge about anything, etc). We'll see what he looks like on the scales this afternoon, but my guess is that he'll likely look dry, but still ok.
