i like the dude for real but...
i think hes overrated
please enlighten me
school my a£$ on why hagler was the man at 160 and is ranked like top 3 of all time as a middleweight
his most notable win was against hearns who was coming up from 147 in a great war
he beat duran who was a killer at 135 lol
he lost to srl who was a natural 147, yes the fight was close but he lost
he had a solid fight with mugabi which he won...but what else
the rest of his resume is unknown and he lost twice early on...he kinda reminds me of joe calzaghe excluding the two early losses
please tell me whats up with this guy cos i wanna be a fan of his like majority of you are lol thanks
:bottle::bottle:
I think only Ray Robinson was more avoided and couldn't get a shot at WW
You're right. And you know why these two are ATG? They just proceeded to kick @ss to the point where they just simply could not be denied. They prostested via their actions. I wish more athletes today were like them.

No boxer was screwed over more than Hagler. He was avoided, had to have congressmen investigate why he wasn't getting any title shots, and he only didn't win because of very very questionable judging. In my mind he's in the top 3 with Robinson.

I said this the other day. His the biggest names on his record were guys who started out at 147 and 135. Lost to a couple of contenders at best too before winning a title. He has a couple of good wins against MW's and the rest were just average fighters.
His championship run was hardly murderers row.
If he was a current fighter, his resume would be torn to shreds on this forum.
So true it would get murdered, but the people that would tear him down you be idiots.
Those guys coming up were 3 of the best ever. By the way Hearns finished his career at cruiser I believe, and SrL @ light heavy
dat kold truth
reality is GGG would beat Hagler into submission.
Except a prime Hearns couldn't even put a dent in him with clean right hand power shots. Nothing in GGG's arsenal comes close to what Hearns brings, and he forced Hearns into a brawl, which hed do the same to GGG, and GGG ain't surviving a brawl with one of the most versatile and technical boxers in boxing history.
Of course, with a statement like this I know you're trolling, and wanted a reaction like this. You got what you wanted.
I stand corrected, it was Watts

MODS please check this dude out
this is NSB...about boxing. keep it clean bro...
disgusting
While I don't condone the anti-Hagler ****ery in this thread, Spinks (and I believe Qawi) called out Hagler.

Yea they did call him out, but lets be clear, they were calling him out at 175. There was no SMW divison when Hagler was fighting. So he would have had to move ujp a whole 15lbs to fight in what was probably the best division in boxing at then time.
In other words, you made it up to fit your agenda. I don't recall Spinks even mentioning Hagler, let alone begging for a fight. Again, proof or you're talking out your a$$.
Any fighter through out history would fight an easier fight for twice the money over a harder fight for half the money. Simple boxing economics.
idiot I just googled spinks wanted to fight hagler and in a second it came up.LOOK IT UP instead of being a moron. he said spinks to big but somehow Duran wasn't to small
Lol wut are you talking about. Who said anything about Haggler having to move up in weight? In case you didn't grasp my point those opponents mentioned weren't just your run of the mill Welters or lightweights like some people seem to be suggesting. The Mugabi fight in no way ruined haggler, he was past his best yet managed to destroy someone who was being tipped as the next big thing. He lost a close fight against SRL and it could be argued that he won it. Regardless GGG has not fought anyone close to that level of opposition.
why don't you read your own posts you said the little guys hagler fought went on to LH and CW so I said in order for marvin to match them he would have to go to HW. have an adult read it to you. MUGABI WAS A JM

half the money??? he gets KO'd by spinks. but rather fight a short armed 5"5 LW. you look it up I aint your secretary

so that means hagler should have finished as HW. but wait he stayed at MW. mugabi was a JM and that fight ruined hagler and after not wanting to fight marvin SRL saw the beating marvin took winning and then wanted to fight him.

I'm a GGG fan but this is embarrassing...Those 2 Welterweights finished their careers Light Heavy and Crusier Weight respectively, Duran finished at Super middle and they were all relatively successful at those weights. These are guys are ATG's that would be better than anyone GGG has faced or will likely ever face (even if he fought Ward).
Hagglers loss to SRL was debatable, he dominated a freak of nature in Hearns and he wasnt his best against Duran but still shook Duran in the end and had him hurt.
John Mugabi was an Olympic Silver Medalist (like Golovkin), Had ko'ed or TKO'ed all 25 fighters before he fought Haggler. So like GGG he was was known for being incredibly powerful and he was feared. Haggler who had lost much of his footwork opted to stand and trade with a monster like Mugabi and he physically and mentally broke Mugabi down.
I would fancy Haggler in a tear-up or Haggler could simply outbox GGG,I just dont see a prime Haggler losing to GGG.

Spinks begged Hagler? Proof or are you distorting facts to fit your agenda? Even if that was true (it isn't) why would Hagler fight Spinks for half the money he would make vs Duran? Can't argue with Durans bravery. No shame in going 15 with that version of Vito. I like how you conveniently left out that Hagler really won that fight and absolutely butchered Vito in the rematch.

His standards aren't high he doesn't know what he's talking about.
To talk about Vito as if he's a walk in the park is a joke!
To put someone down to try and raise your favorite up shows me the person who does that has no real knowledge of the sport and the history of the sport.
Hagler has one of the best records at 160 and the men on that record are some of the best contenders in any era.

The men on Haglers record are far superior to the men GGG has fought to date. It's not even close! 67 bouts 52 via KO/tko and has NEVER been stopped!
I like GGG a lot but he is NOT on Haglers turf yet by any means. The skill level is far apart and without the punch GGG would be an average talent.
I know he can box much better than his showing last week and will have to in his future fights or he will get beat! He will puff up, and I believe he will cut too. I believe his heart is intact but will his power last through 10 full rounds of a testing fight?
We know Hagler did!

Great Post. Thank you. This really sums everything up nicely. I would just add the Antefuermo fights. The draw was a complete robbery that outraged everyone in boxing.
I am biased because Hagler is my all time favorite. I am not a GGG fan. I have stayed away from this thread so as not to go ape shit on someone.

bunch of bull Michael spinks begged hagler to move up instead he fought the LW Duran who is the bravest fighter I ever saw. vito went 15 with hagler

Well, that would take quite a while.
Duran, Leonard and Hearns for starters.
So being 62-3 with 52 KOes (2 of those loses could easily be disputed), UNDISPUTED middleweight champ for damn near 8 years, ducked absolutely no one. Robbed of the title in his 1st attempt, beat 2 out of the greats you named and the one he lost to is disputed (I thought Leonard squeeked by). All this doesn't = great? Man you standards are high.
GGG fans showing their true colors...sit back and enjoy people
I'm a GGG fan. I don't think GGG needs to go up in weight to prove his greatness. I think post-Pacquiao obsession with moving up in weight has become pure foolishness.
I think GGG outclasses Canelo, Lara, Quillen, BJS. Jacobs and Eubank would be interesting. Could they get inside and bang with GGG. They could get inside but I think that GGG would win the war
But Hagler is another story. He had a first class chin (as does GGG); he had power (not as much as GGG) but he could fight inside very effectively. I think stylistically Hagler has the advantage. He also faced a lot better competition which also gives him the edge.
I think this would be a great fight. And the advantage is Hagler all the way.
So. Not all GGG fans are fan-boys.
