That's one way of looking at it. Another would be that his caliber of opponents were being underestimated. Besides, I don't see very many people applauding GGG for his slick defensive prowess. AFAIK, he's recognized by most to be a devastating puncher who's always looking for the finish.

Saturday was an example of fans being influenced. People expected Brook to get steamrolled from the get go. But then he flashes some nice moments here and there and people were mesmerized by it. If you go back and watch it again -- Golovkin, even while sloppy and impatient, continued to pound on Brook from start to finish. In between, sure, Brook had some really nice, impressive, eye opening moments. But anybody scoring it 3-1 or 4-0 by that point was totally influenced by the electric crowd and the fact that here and there, Brook was actually unexpectedly having some genuine success. But it was success in spots. Not sustained success. People act as if he was dominant and boxing circles around Golovkin. That sh*t is laughable. And damn, have we forgotten that GGG had Brook in dire straits barely midway through the opening round? Kell was in some deep sh*t early, man. But yeah major credit to him because he responded beautifully. I give him a lot of credit. But then the fifth round...jeezus. Brook was totally and utterly demolished in that round. That sh*t was emphatic. Brook was getting tee'd off on and obviously his team knew that they had to get him out of there before he was wrecked into an oblivion that he might not ever fully recover from.

No, the thing is with hype comes expectations. GGG isn't some type of elusive boxer, he would get hit and as soon as he gets it, then it's a moral victory for his opponents and the fans who wants to be proven right that GGG can be beaten by a slick boxer.

Golovkin is overrated that because he isn't as much of a complete fighters as the majority of P4P entrants and he'll never be a big draw. Most of the p4p guys are lesser draws, and hardly any of them are complete. Ward just failed to put away a smw scrub, offense lacking. Unfortunately fans like offense best, in boxing. basically everybody in know expected brook to get knocked out in 5-6 rounds. and nobody has ever said golovkin moves his head, because he doesn't. what you need to do is stop listenting to the 5-10 golovkin fan alts, and the 5-10 golovkin detractor "caricature alts." those are the people going all or nothing on golovkin. what he is is a 34 year old who will be winding his career down shortly. he made it to the p4p list, but he was never the best fighter on the planet. he was the best MW on the planet in spite of the fact that he may never win the lineal title. if he doesn't go on to get histprically significant wins quickly he will be consdiererd a "woulda coulda" fighter.

Gggs defense is pretty bad I don't buy into the taking shots for fun or whatever he says. Pretty much everyone I've seen him fight has hit him clean. I don't think he's Brandon Rios but clearly his defense isn't that great. The only fighter there who really did better than expected was Brook, and that's because no one had any expectations for him going into this fight. Everyone else got annihilated and were never competitive. Brook did the best out of all them but they had their moments.

I like golovkin and he has dominant wins but recently Stevens, Rosado, Murray, Brook all did better than expected and their stock rose after fighting ggg. After most Floyd, Kovalev,Manny,Ward, Rigo, Wlad fights we talk about how they dominated and outclassed a top guy in their division but gggs opponents seem to have alot of success. Rosado connected on 22% (!!!!) of his punches. Lemieux connected on less than 30%. Even Brook, who did more than anyone else against Golovkin, only connected on 32% of his punches. He got hit alot in all those fights. I'll admit we didn't know GGG was that bad at defense so when we saw him taking clean combos to the face it might of been an overreaction.
