I don't hate Golovkin. And yet, I have often criticised him. A lot. Which, naturally, makes me seem like a hater. But I'm sure that this explanation will make everything clear...
When I see Golovkin, I see a guy coming from a tough place, who did his best and changed his situation. Something most of us never will have the mental discipline to do. I view him as a nice guy, especially compared to guys like Broner, and if I had the option, I would love to meet him. I respect Golovkin a lot. I also respect him as a boxer. He is entertaining to watch, with a good chin and extreme power. Definitely the best middleweight in the world and I'm glad to be among those who contribute to give him a high number of viewers when he fights. I like to watch him fight.
Then his fans gets into the picture... Rating him in the top 5 P4P lists. Sometimes even number 1. And I'm like "yo, respect the guy for what he is, let's not exaggerate". And then people keep bigging him up and up, up above proven fighters like Ward, and I start to feel a bigger and bigger need to stress how overrated he is. And it's sad, really. The guy has fought no one and he looked bad in the Brook fight. It could have stayed at that, if not for his fans to come up and start saying stupid **** like "he fought carelessly because he didn't respect Brook's power" when everyone saw him get shook in the first round. Likewise, when his fans try to hype up bums like Geale and Lemieux to make him look good. Seriously, just stop. His opposition is horrible and it's not entirely his own fault. Let's keep it at that and not make his opposition sound any better than it is.
Golovkin is getting older and older and it's not unlikely that he will never get to fight a good opponent. It makes me sad, in a way, because I really like Golovkin and I wish him the best of succes and I'm so mad at Saunders, Canelo and Jacobs for ducking him for so long.
When I seem like a Golovkin hater, then really, I'm just a hype hater. For example, I'm a huge Anthony Joshua fan, but I'm fair - of course he doesn't belong in the P4P top 10 yet.

Much repsect to you for that post. I think alot of fans feel this way. I think GGG is likeable and respected by almost all boxing folks and people who are knowledgeable about boxing. Good post by you Expert.

my sentiments exactly, these were the same fans claiming ATGs who fought champions constantly never fought anyone, but constantly bringing up how many top 10 fighters GGG has beaten. then trashings Jacobs Quillen win, its just tacky, but im a GGG fan as well who is willing to call out that mess they post.
How am I suppose to take haters seriously when they spout bs like, "bumlovkin" or "little G"?
These are the same guys who hype up Wilder and turn around smack talking GGG in any way they can.
Don't act like it's only GGG's fan base at fault here. It goes both ways.
To be fair, name some other p4p fighters... in the last 5 years who have they beat? No top guys are facing top guys.
Chocolatito is really the only one.
There is NOTHING wrong with GGG being top 10 p4p. Ward, Kovalev, Rigo... They've done sweet **** all compared to past greats too. GGG gets way too much hate on here. I swear, when he retires and the MW titles are split again between 4 average fighters who keep losing them, some of you will realise how good he is.
Your sig says it all.. That is the logic around here..

Wow, an objective post in NSB! Amusing!

Green rep for being honest and saying the Truth Golovkin is a good guy his fans are just boxing version of stans
really? The haters are far more vocal. Why keep starting threads about the guy if you don't like him? More threads = more talk = more interest. You guys are actually helping golovkin dominate the forum and general boxing chat lol. It's like David Haye said 'I don't give a **** what they are saying about me as long as they are saying something.'
Lets just look at this thread for a minute. Out of4 respnses, 3 have disrespected and insulted his fans. How do you expect us to respond to that? You wonder why we get defensive and hostile. I dont like being called names, and told I dont know shiz about boxing, because I see the same thing that the top fighters in his division obviously see since they're not fighting him. Ive studied all types of martial arts for over a decade. I know a good fighter when I see one. And let's not act like its just us fans that 'hype him up'. He's listed among the top fighters p4p in virtually every listing. But its hard to come on a site wanting to talk boxing and be called 'delusional fanboy', 'azzwipe' and such names without wanting to respond in like manner. You have to give respect to get it back. People need to understand that we all have different perspectives, otherwise, wed all root for the same guy
99% of people that get called "Golovkon haters" are just like TS. We actually just hate the hype that his delusional fanboys give him.
By all means like the fighters you like but when you start putting GGG in the same sentence as Hopkins, RJJ, and even Hagler and Monzon! That's when sh1t gets out of hand.
Yes, I agree. If everyone started hyping Joshua, one of my personal favourites, as a P4P top 10 fighter, then I would quickly look like a Joshua hater too.
