GENNADY GOLOVKIN is so confident of blowing Kell Brook away he is already eyeing up another Brit to bash. The Kazakh destroyer wants to take on WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders after he deals with Brook at the O2 tonight. Click Here To Read More]
Maybe you're right, but I think that if HBO thought a Lara fight would help propel GGG to superstardom they would have made more effort to make it. Perhaps they don't want to risk GGG looking bad or maybe they just don't think the majority of their viewership would really give a damn, I just don't know. Like I say I'd like to see Golovkin fight Lara but for whatever reason HBO and K2 don't seem to see things the same way.
That's the risk that you have to take, though; Alvarez took the risk, didn't look spectacular in the fight, but got through the fight with a W and the boxing world got to say "Alvarez beat Lara, after putting himself in there with Floyd, beating Trout, and angling for tough fights since trying to fight Paul Williams".
The Mexican/Latino fans still adore him for what he represents for Mexico, but that love is undergirded by a resume that has the respect of the hardcore boxing audience; say what you want about the guy, but no one with any sense is going to tell you that Saul Alvarez can't fight.
Golovkin fighting Lara would give the boxing audience the chance to see if that same thing is true (Olympic achievements aside, Golovkin's been a pro ten years, yet has yet to fight anyone worth fighting, with the arguable exceptions of Martin Murray, Daniel Geale, and Kell Brook).
K2 is being ultra-cautious with how they move Golovkin; they seem to inherently know that Golovkin getting exposed at this point basically kills off any potential of Golovkin ever being a star. So, they've chosen with trying to talk people into Golovkin being a star.
Sad, but that's the bet they've made.
Dude don't get pulled into that guys web of stupidity. Laras manager said Loeffler approached Haymon about Lara, then said "Lara commands a lot of money, this fight won't be easy to make"
Didn't know that an approach had been made, but I was aware that Lara's purse would likely be an issue. The guy's a good boxer but sadly can't draw flies to sh1t.

HBO has spent four year trying to build Golovkin up (a fighter who's almost 35 years old now, after an extensive amateur career) behind soft touches, and the audience isn't buying it.
Fighting Lara puts a quality scalp on Golovkin's ledger, so that the next time they try to go to the fans to pay for PPV, they could actually say that Golovkin's fought someone worth fighting, rather than simply playing off of the hype they they, themselves, have tried to push.

Nothing wrong with it. Like I say, I'd like to see Golovkin tested by someone - especially after last night's fight - with good speed and movement and legitimate credentials, just simply think that it's unlikely. What reason would HBO have to run a Golovkin Lara PPV? And who else would do it? Cubano TV?

Lara brings Golovkin the credibility needed to take another shot at PPV; longtime TV fighter, pretty unanimously seen as a top 3 fighter at 154 (and in the top 20 on most p4p lists, imo), has a debatable defeat to the money fight that Golovkin is chasing, and has enough quirks in his style for the boxing/sports media to push it as an actual legit fight (notice how, outside of Sky Sports being happy to have Golovkin fighting in the UK, very little sports energy is being spent on pushing Golovkin-Brook).
Beyond that, the "high payday" talk needs to be backed with something for once; what is so wrong with K2 offering Lara the same/similar package that they offered Lemieux ($1m + a share on the PPV beyond 200k PPV buys)?

He doesn't. If he were to fight and beat Andrade, Charlo Bros, and the rest of the top 154 lb guys, he'd be much higher than GayLoveKin, although his resume is already much better anyway.
Ohhhh yea Canelo is really thinking big in terms of his beta boxing career. First things first, not every f*cking great boxer has a star studded resume to boost him into legitimacy to fight a "All time great" like Canela. Golovkin is the best most dangerous guy Canelo can fight from 147-168. Canelo is a complete "lightweight" (pun intended) and has excepted that he can't handle the heat in the kitchen.
Who in the h*ll just gives the lineal WBC middleweight title up for nothing!? Yea, what a genius business man. Reminds me of Floyd Joy Mayweather.
Exactly GGG
Canelo hasnt done none in boxing but get schooled by MoneyMay, aim for greatness but real greatness not a catchweight at 164 vs Ward, learn from Ward he challenges the light heavyweight champ n p4p #1 at his weight not a catchweight
This is a good reason for a fan to want to see a fight, and I'd like to see it myself for the same reason, but it's not a good reason for a promoter to want to make a fight unfortunately.
Golovkin - Lara will probably only happen if Lara brings something to the table other than the expectation of a high payday. Sucks but that's just the way it is.

Using Kell to build the fan base necessary to force the BJS fight... I like the idea... Hopefully, he makes it happen. This also reinforces the idea that he wants the belts more than anything else.... With that being said, I think if Canelo offers him the fight, he takes that over BJS. But whatever. BJS, Jacobs, Canelo, maybe Lara, or move up. Other than that (I'm probably missing someone), I won't really be moved. Hopefully these fights happen soon.
The simple facts are that K2 isn't ready or willing to pay the price that Billy Joe Saunders wants for the fight, Billy Joe Saunders finds no need to chase Golovkin for short money, and the WBA is bearing down on Golovkin's neck (after Daniel Jacobs continues to shine in the ring, with the investment by Brooklyn S&E/Haymon/Showtime growing even more).
Golovkin and his camp have their backs against the wall, with the Alvarez fight far enough away to almost be too far away.
There you have it folks.
From the mouth of Bumlovin. He would rather keep fighting bums than fighting Canelita.
no buts or ifs, he's #1 King Bum for Bum
How old are you, 12?
Once you get a taste of that UK money....
The money from Matchroom Sport/Sky Sports is markedly different from the type of money to be draw from the rest of the UK.
Golovkin and his camp have yet to make any change on whether they're willing to pay the price that Saunders wants for the unification fight (a price that Saunders and his camp seem to believe that Saul Alvarez is ready to pay when he moves to 160).
His fans may ignore the fact, but knowledgeable folks see through the shill.
It'd be interesting if the tables turned and it was Canelo looking for live opponents and a shot at Golovkin. That's what pisses me off the most really. Canelo has a shining opportunity to fight Golovkin and be great. Instead he's acting like he's an ATG and doesn't need Golovkin

What exactly does Lara bring to the table that would make GGG want to fight him? Does Lara bring GGG a large purse? NO. Does Lara bring action and excitement to the fight? No. Lara is one of the worst runners around. Does Lara help GGG in his quest to unify the middleweights? No. Lara never beat a middleweight. Lara could try to take Jacobs's middleweight title. If he could do that then a fight with GGG would be his for sure.
For you special people: what fighting Lara is about is more than just the purse. Lara would be a common opponent. One that Canelo struggled with, so if GayLoveKin were to beat him easily, that would draw more interest in the guy who's a@@ he lacks behind closed doors. I swear fans of his are a f'n joke. B1tch about not finding anyone to fight, well there you have someone to fight. To my knowledge, canelo never beat a middleweight either, unless you actually count Cotto, so wtf is your point?
Contrast of styles, that's what I wanna see. Of GGG has power so anyone that can't move will probably lose to him. I wanna see him against someone that's elusive and a good boxer.

Lol, BJS just said he'd rather fight Golovkin/Brook winner ahead of Alvarez. But then again, Frank & Bill will setup a bidding war between Golovkin & Canelo.
K2 need to go all out and let Bill take the whole UK revenue. Once Golovkin holds all four belts, Canelo will have to knock on his door.
