GENNADY GOLOVKIN has wanted to fight in the UK for a long time. This Saturday he will fulfil that ambition when he defends his IBF, IBO and WBC middleweight titles his WBA belt will not be on the line against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook at the O2 in London. Click Here To Read More]
Somewhere I read 5 mil $$ each, Brook and GGG.... with Brook getting some PPV cashish, GGG getting none. Career high payday for both guys. So IOW, no reason for any complaints from either side. As for the Barker story and it helping, Hearn could be right in it pumping this fight. It would be interesting to see the numbers on the PPV, and if they're better than the 'experts' predicted. The arena sold out in minutes, so no amount of hype does anything for that, but maybe PPV will increase.
It is funny though, how Abel just recently repeated his claim that GGG beats everyone 154-168, yet no one in GGGs camp would accept Canelo's 155 demand... and the one who gets the most blame is Canelo. I understand the MW weight limit, and understand fully both sides of the argument... but if Canelo gets the title vs Smith, THEN repeats the 155 offer.... THEN what does GGG do? Refuse? Maybe his team could find a way to refuse without looking like a duck. Who knows how the fans would react, but I'd guess GGGs stock would lower at least a little.
Interesting times for the sport right now.
Now if Canelo didn't have that belt would Golovkin be chasing a fight with him I say no and if he was he would come down to 154 like he said he would for Mayweather or like he said anyone from 154 to 168
Plus he said Canelo vs Khan was a business fight what do you call this fight a business fight first off Brook took this fight like a champ and people still hate when he still beats most Welterweights outside of Spence but there are Middleweights out there for Golovkin besides him waiting for Jacobs or Eubank Sr to stay out and let Eubank Jr to make the fight with Hearn he should move up get Froch out of retirement or DeGeale Ramirez even Ward by 2018
jesus christ you people are dumber than a bag of hair. There NEVER was a "demand" of 155, because Canelo / GBP never made a single offer to GGG for the fight. Not at 154.5, not at 155, not at 156, or even 157 or 158. There never was an offer. Period. Not a single one.
Why is that so difficult to comprehend?
Lighten up bosco. Whether there was an 'official' offer means nothing. Fact is, talk of it was all over boxing media, with comments from both camps, fans, scribes, commentators, you name it. And because of all the uproar, now probably close to a majority of fans have anti-Canelo memes and/or comments going still. Not that I care either way.
Kinda uptight there aren't ya bub? You may wanna switch ladies... from inflatable to actual real live version. :lol1:
155 isn't a weight class. 154-168 is three weight class, which 160 sandwiched between. That means no fight from these three beats him, not that he has to take whatever stupid demand these fighters come up with, like fighting for the 160 pound WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO, ring mag, and lineal titles at 1 pound above 154.
Uh, 'scuse me Captain Obvious, but what do you think I meant by 'I understand the MW weight limit, and understand fully both sides of the argument'?
What we do know is that Golovkin went from offering to fight Barker for free to having his promoter say Andre Ward doesn't make financial sense.
Both are true. It makes you wonder why, though...
golly gee whiz, I dont know. Maybe its because since the Barker offer, GGG has been fighting on HBO, building a following around the world, selling out arenas on both coasts, and has a much higher profile than he did back then and doesnt have to make those kinds of concessions anymore?
smh...........
... But we all know the truth: GGG fought nobody and ducked Ward -- with one before Ward said he would fight him actually.

But he won't fight Canelo for a FLAT-FEE???
Who said they wouldn't. But they'd be stupid too for the biggest fight in boxing, unless it's a big flat fee. If I'm them let the pressure to continue to hurt Canelo.
We know it is or team Canelo wouldn't be bringing up GGG every freaken day.
golden already talkin about a 2 million dollar flat fee offer for ggg...hes gettin minimum 5 for brook. low ball and say we made him an offer,if he accepts then they are going implement to the catchweight and 18 ounce gloves..total Diva c rap:bottle:
HBO (like SHO) already said from now on they're leaving PPV #s disclosures to promoters.
Which basically means no accountability / real #s anymore, because HBO is under the umbrella of a publicly traded company, whereas GBP is not.
No matter how GBP says Canelo-Smith did on PPV, you'll know it bombed in actuality when GBP changes its tune re: the Golovkin fight.
GBP is gonna find out real fast that Mexican-American fans are very knowledgeable about boxing, and not like the army of guillible Matchroom casuals in the UK who'd lick Eddie Hearn's arsehole, shelling out for PPV to watch Bellew-Cleverly II or Anthony Joshua vs. Breazeale LOL.

Golovkin and Kovalev both deserve every dime and praise they get, I just had an argument with an idiot about this very same topic..mofo's pretend like these guys just came out of nowhere and got HBO contracts and didn't have to earn it. They had to earn it the hardest way imaginable and in other people's backyards practically the entire time.
This may mean team GGG may accept oscars ridiculous flat fee offer. What a disgraceful team Canelo has.
I really hope so. See if Canelo wants a rematch clause, accept whatever the fee is, steamroll Canelo as hard as possible, and ask him post fight if he wants some more ("quieres mas Canelo?"). GGG should do that just for publicity and legacy.
He would be the people's champ after destroying the Diva that Canelo is becoming.
People diss on Hearn but I think he is a breath of fresh air. He's a character and speaks at length to reporters. Building GGG up to be a monster is a win win. If Brook wins he is the monster slayer. If GGG wins then Hearn has just amped up future fights with Eubank or DeGale.
Hearn is a good character.
I was thinking just this... this is not by any means news, yet treated as such now (again) :lol1:

If Barker was still active this story would never see the light of day
Of course. And if by some chance it did then Barker's team would deny it until they were blue in their faces.
Hearn is going to recycle this story as the skysport hype gets bigger, wonder if they would touch on why Brook was slashed with a machete in spain.
You gotta "crazy" guy on a small island hacking somebody with a machete. Wouldn't ya think he might be a danger to the public at large? Just a little bit?
Yet Brook knew who he was. He was also known to other's in Brook's group. He wasn't gettin off that island on a ferry or a plane. It would be easy to track him down and arrest him.
Yet neither Brook nor the Spanish police were interested in pressing charges and arresting him. And why not? Surely anyone going around hacking the legs of people with a machete is at minimum a public danger and could possibly repeat the act.
Now why could it be that no arrests were made? Could it possibly be that the "crazy attacker" was actually acting in self defense? - I mean how else is a regular Joe gonna keep a P4P boxer off him.
One day this will all come out - probably some Brit tabloid will find the guy and set up an interview. More likely to happen the bigger Brook's name becomes.
