Barrera was OK. Not proven as a pro but a solid 175lber w/ decent amateur experience. The other guys are whatever.
The fact that Ward/Kovalev is seen as a 50/50 fight says a lot though about the respect everyone has for Ward's previous achievements + skillset and about how sharp he still appears to be despite not being especially active.
Anthony Joshuas last 4 opponents have a combined record of 77-0-1 and none of them are any good.

Comparing Ward's and Golovkin's resumes is a very stupid move by any Golovkin fan, that's only going to end in with you being laughed at.
In the context of this thread, it favors ggg.

I thought Larry looked pretty damn good on the bag if I may say so myself. Looked pretty fast. Some nice combinations.
I work on this punching bag in the garage and I whiff most of the time and when I do actually land it barely moves

101-6 with 71 ko's...not bad for tune-ups
Yes, that is extremely impressive and he did all this in a bit less than 3 years time. GGG's last 4 have a combined record of 100-4 with 66 ko's and he beat them all in a little over 1 year's time. There is one other difference besides the time it took to beat their last 4. Ward won 3 by decision and 1 by ko. GGG won all 4 of his fights by ko.
Sh*t I found it.

Man, my 4 year old weighs more than that "heavy" bag.
It's a bag i have in the back yard..whats your point???
idk what your problem with Barrera
He was called a dangerous, skilled, up and coming lhw contender... it was a decent win in a new division.
and I doN't think that Ward forgot anything from what is it like to fight high level opponents.
If the level of competition will be new to someone that will be Kovalev cause the level of an 50 yrs old Hop, past prime Pascal and Chilemba (All nice wins btw) are less close to Ward's level than Froch's or Kessler's level to Kovalev.
Ward didn't beat very high level competition in recent years but he proved himself against better opponents than Kovalev did. So... the question is rather if Kovalev will be ready for this level or not and not the other way around
Weight won't matter. lhw version of Ward and Kovalev weigh around the same on fight nights, on the presser they looked similar sized. And this is not Kell Brook jumping up two divisions at once, Ward gave a little time to his body to adjust.
What notable wins did any of those guys have?
They all sucked.
Go back to hitting that ridiculously undersized bag. You looked less ridiculous on that thread than you do here.
Wait... Wait! What? Link!?!?

You are reaching man. Ward doesnt need to be defended, his choice in opponents has been less than stellar the last few years but nobody really thinks he isnt as good as he clearly is.
Come on, Larry, you know that means absolutely nothing. Rodriguez is a fringe top 10-20 type fighter, Smith and Brand were joke fights, and Barrera is almost completely unproven.
It is a disappointing stretch of fights.
