As you all know now, after losing in the Olympic finals, Shakur Stevenson began crying hysterically in an interview.
(this particular video will only play on youtube).
This was heavily criticized by many people, including Hatmanboxing who made multiple videos saying that crying is a sign of weakness in a boxer, and that emotionless boxers like Holyfield/Golovkin are better than emotional ones like Tyson. He says that smart opponents can take advantage of your emotional weakness.
(these videos will play)
Yet you also have people defending him, saying that he's just a kid.
So what is your opinion on Shakur Stevenson crying in the interview for losing? Do you all think it's a sign of weakness?
Btw here's a funny video I found lol.
I recall Baby Bull Juan Diaz crying his eyes out after he won a decision where he got dropped for the first time on Showtime and had to show some resolve to win (Ubaldo Hernandez). Diaz went on to unify 135. Evaluate Shakur Stevensons career after it's over.
This young man had just suffered the biggest emotional letdown of his life. He had enormous pressure put on him by the media, and by his country, to win that gold. He was close enough to taste it and couldn't get it done. Of course he was emotional. It is understandable. Look at Josh Norman crying on the field after the Panthers lost the SB. Look at Cam flopping and rolling on the ground, and walking out of the post-game interview. Look on the sidelines or on the bench of every championship loser and somebody is going to be crying. Someone is going to be letting their emotions flow down their face. I have to wonder how many of his critics have been in the same situation. How many have been second when they were expected to be first? He's a competitor, he has heart and emotion. Shakur Stevenson will be just fine.
It isn't a sign of weakness.
He lost a chance at a Gold medal for his country. What is a 19 year old supposed to say, "Well that's the way the cookie crumbles"? It's perception.
Either you like him and say he's a kid or you dis him and call him a freakin cry baby.
He will handle losing better in the future if he ever does lose again. Everyone else in the Olympics can cry except boxers. If you cry it's a show of weakness. Gtfooh.
He cried so what? I think its a sign of strength for a man to showcase his emotions. Dudes pretending they're hard and they don't care is a true sign of pussification.
You can tell that he cares and will ensure that losing won't happen ever again. He'll lose eventually in the pros, they all do - but at least you know the guy who beats him will have to go through hell to do it
when i first saw it, i think i posted something like, it seems he threw a tantrum. what made me laugh it was the manner in which he cried, it was really childish and hysterical.
he had nothing to cry for. with only one victory he got a silver medal.
Yea it was not the fact that he cried, but the manner in which he cried and bawled which got some people scratching their heads.
I had heard of him crying after the loss, but I had never seen the video before. He cried like a little girl, it was a bad look, and not a good sign. That being said he is young, and he might turn into a good pro fighter who knows.

It's understandable. A lot pf people are used to settling and failure so they cannot empathise with immense disappointment.
He'll toughen with experience. What's good is it shows the passion is there.
Good point. Crying like that makes me think this kid will be one of the best ever. And I think losing at that stage may have been the best thing that will ever happen to him, for later down the line.

The only ones ridiculing shakur stevenson are the ones who don't want you to notice how insecure they are about their lives. They are obsessed with what others think of them, even though they try to play it cool - hence the big focus on stevenson. Classic diversion tactic for the subliminal self-pat on the back, for being 'manlier' than him (lol). Try dedicating your whole heart and soul to something for your whole life, and then have it shattered in front of the world. They can't imagine it though cause they've failed from the start, and acted like they didn't care for so long that now they actually believe themselves lol. Who cares about acting tough?? - The same clowns who want you to think they're a 'badass dude' even though their life is going down the sh*tter. Bunch of clowns, with repressed emotional issues is who. Psychology 101 for the wannabe gangster rapper ball-lickers.
Boxing is tough. Being that excellent is really difficult. Not sure why men still have to pretend to be emotionless robots when most of us are not even close to that. It's easy to play emotionless when you have nothing at stake offline, or when you're posting anonymously online.
I don't think crying is a sign of weakness. It's a weakness to pretend you don't have emotions and never share them with anyone.
He's a kid who lost the most significant fight of his life to that point after years of tireless training and after receiving attention from media, boxing notables, family etc all watching in hope of him turning up the first US men's boxing gold in over a decade. It was a hard loss to take. He didn't make any excuses, so I think he handled it well.
This..
I suspect the people who made those videos have never attempted to be great at anything. The young man did just fine.
Its a sign of weakness ,yet its humble .
He admitted he lost ,and im glad did,for 1 it showed he was humble in defeat, two the pbc fan boys would have cried robbery yet he clearly lost.
The weakness comes from , you can use it against him along with knowing he has a breaking point because he is an emotional guy.
Being too emotional and too prideful in boxing can be good sometimes ,but it can also be bad.
Hater will hate. You hate Floyd, he cried after his biggest wins early in his career and is the best of his time.

It's a good thing, it means he actually cares about winning. He will train harder than ever to stop it from happening again.
Young Mike Tyson cried, there is footage of it. Emotion isn't bad. It's all about focusing those emotions towards training and fighting that makes champions.
I think it is a kid who had a dream and fell short of it,he worked his entire life with that vision and failed......he was disappointed and emotional..but he does need to man up
