Harry Greb, Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler are the top three.
Golovkin in ability is up there with them, but he needs a couple of good wins to move into the top ten.
If Alvarez and Jacobs fight him, then Eubank and Saunders, it will improve his resume.
"If Alvarez and Jacobs fight him, then Eubank and Sainders, it will improve his resume."
It's piercing insight like this that makes this site so thought provoking.
In other news, if you eat tons of pizza and drink lots of beer, you'll get fat.
Obviously not today but in Hagler's era the Middleweight Crown was only matched by the Heavyweight Title!
If you wanted the Middleweight Champ the weight limit was long established at 160!!!! No questions about catch weight BS there is NO WAY Hearns or Leonard approach Hagler with a 155 proposal! First it's an insult and second how do you challenge and also bring demands?
What Canelo did with the middleweight title is disgraceful but thats the landscape in todays boxing. I do believe he will fight GGG in 2017 and when it happens everyone will just move on.
Boxing has always been a business first "sport" it's just that today theres to much business with all the federations and weight classes there's more champs than there is contenders.

Was the 154lbs division even still about at that time I'm not really sure when these super divisions got introduced into boxing late 80's, early 90's?
Not really sure tbh.
just ignore him mate, hes a hardcore golovkin hater who cant be reasoned with, not even sure hes a fan of any fighters thinking about it.
So expect fighters to actually beat quality opposition before ball gaggers like you proclaim them great = hardcore hater. I am a fan of all fighters, I just have been around long enough to not throw around terms like ATG, HOFer lightly. Thinking about it? Don't attempt things you clearly aren't cut out for.
Lmfao how idiotic are you!
A life-time 160lbs only fighter would just jump down 5lbs and kill his body just to get a cash cheque you really think that low of Hagler?
Then again maybe he would have since he had lost previous to SRL he had nothing to lose everything to gain.
I know it doesn't fit your agenda but before facing Hearns, Duran, or Leonard, Hagler was itching for a big money fight. He routinely weighted in at 157,58,59 for his fights. If you don't think he would have dropped down to 155 to land a big money fight you' don't know Hagler or are an idiot or (in your case) both.
hes top 50 so far, lets see how he finishes his career maybe he can crack the top 30 or 20... I doubt it. hes a very good fighter tho but I have doubt he will ever surpass SRR, Harry Greb, Ezzard Charles, Hagler, Roy Jones, nigel benn or Eubank, let alone Bhop

News flash skippy, Hagler was itching for a money fight, if Leonard/Hearns would have insisted upon 155, Hagler would have jumped on it.
The daft one is YOU! Dick breathe

Lol you're pretty daft.

If Marvin Haglers had a huge money fight at 155, do you think he would have passed? If Marvin Hagler had a huge legacy fight at 168, do you think he would have passed?

Given the fact that all the best don't want to have anything to do with him If you can't realize that he is clearly gifted and probably the biggest puncher the MW division has ever had that's your own fault.

"Isn't that how it goes"?.....................
I think your point has some validity but with GGG I need to see more!
I actually think he fights to his competitions level and I don't like that!
His proving ground is Canelo because the kid is a good boxer! However it's time for Canelo to be tested also. Hopefully the promotion teams let them fight in 2017 and they pray it's a good close fight so the money triples up! $$$ GGG
I like what I see but I see decline coming sooner than not! He has flaws but no opponents as yet to try and capitalize on them. I think he is a tough guy and would go out on his shield if need be, most punchers are like that.
I hope he stays at middleweight because that is who he is. The people who cry for fighters to "move up" don't know squat. They see all these midgets from 140 to 154 move around and think it's a normal progression.
Fighters move up when they mature and simply can't make weight anymore.
Guys like Armstrong took on other weight class champs because they could hold the weight well and brought their power with them.
GGG at 175 could never be effective at 180 but his opponents would be 190 fight night!
He might have two good years left but at his size and weight and all the amateur bouts I think he peters out pretty soon.
Ray
Bingo and this is coming from one of the more experienced members who is in the know yet people treat the body maturing and a fighter moving up 7lbs as a marvelous achievement lol.

Yeah...GGG made the great fight like vs. Lemeuix aka "modern day Hagler vs. Hearns". So he deserve to be called the Greatest...lol
You sound upset :(
"Why is an American not getting all the fame and attention bbbbut Ward"
I agree. Golovkin has shown the greatest amount of cowardice in middleweight history.
You are absolutely right. However, Canelo Alvarez is trying to reclaim that distinction.
No, GGG is the greatest middleweight who ever lived.
The proof and evidence is in the fact that people are asking him to move upo without having to fight nelo, bjs or Jacobs. GGG wants to hsang around for these guys to prove he can beat them. But his critics are saying its not necessary. Just fight ward, kovakev etc etc that's the only way you'll be tested.
GGG maybe the greatest middleweight the world will ever see
In order to be ranked among the greatest of all time or even the greatest of your era, a fighter would have to beat another fighter who was ranked among the greatest of his era. Golovkin hasn't even fought anyone who would rank among the greatest fighters of the last 25 years, let alone all time greatest.
Those guys would get put out to sleep in a few rounds.
Hopkins would lose via wide UD
We will never know because Golovkin would never fight Hopkins. He would rather fight Dominic Wade.
