I'm gonna have to go with a prime (1986-89) Mike Tyson for number 1.
Maybe 168 Roy Jones at number 2...? Not sure, I'd have to think about that a bit more a bit more.
Post and discuss.
Enjoy
SRR
Armstrong
Duran
Leonard
Charles
Tbh very similar to my normal P4P top 5
Armstrong has too few mentions so far. His prime wasnt long in comparison to other greats, but in 3 years or so he won World Titles (genuine) at Featherweight, Welterweight, Lightweight (briefly holding all 3 at the same time) and then went on to defend his WW title a record number of times (19) and even got a very debateable draw with (disputed) MW title holder Cerefino Garcia.
That run is almost unparalleled in my admittedly limited knowledge of boxing history.
Duran, Leonard, Roy, and Ali are definitely the best fighters I have any solid knowledge of. At their best, I would probably pick them to beat anyone p4p (exceptions of each other). I can't decide on a 5th name to round that out.
Let's just be real here, the top 2 are Robinson and Ali, whatever order you like it. After that, prime for prime, h2h, p4p, I'd go for:
Leonard
Pep
Chavez/Duran
Langford
Greg
Robinson
Armstrong
B. Leonard
You really can't argue resume or prime for prime for any of these guys no matter what order you put them in.
Erik Morales through 50 fights was a MONSTER. 48-2 with the 2 losses to Marco Antonio Barrera being debatable. The 50th fight was Morales' schooling of Pacquiao, :boxing:.
Morales was done after the 50th fight. From then on he was 4-7 with his best win coming against Pablo Cesar Cano. Even then Morales put up solid performances way above his natural weight against Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia.
Now that is what you call a great fighter.
List my top 5 only to have people on here tell me how wrong my choices are? No thank you. I must say Mike Tyson seems like a strange choice for number 1 of all time unless you think he was past prime at a very young age.If he had such a short prime why would he be the best fighter in history. Holyfield KOed Douglas who KOed Tyson. Then Holyfield beat Tyson twice. Once by KO and once by DQ. Then Lewis beat Holyfield and Tyson. Holyfield and Lewis were both older than Tyson. Jones in his prime might belong among the 5 best in history but Tyson? I don't think so.
Prime 4 prime? Oh boy.
Floyd Mayweather
Rocky Marciano
Roy Jones Jr.
Andre Ward
Muhammad Ali
Mayweather on your list is a joke. He never beat prime A fighter.
Wards resume is vastly overated. Full of a bunch of C and D fighters. Froch was his only good win and Froch was a B fighter.
Ali
Roy Jones jr
Ray Robinson
Duran
And henry armstrong are what makes the best list possible.
Honorable mention to salvador sanchez and
Ray leonard
There's so many names to think of. Henry Armstrong. Willie Pep. Roberto Duran. Pernell Whitaker--- etc.
I could only think of three guys who I believe certainly deserve a spot on the list:
#1 Roy Jones Jr. - I think most people will agree that in his prime, he really "Can't be touched".
-Sugar Ray Robinson (give credit where it's due fellas) - Beat the lightweight champ. Won the welterweight/middleweight titles. Almost did something unheard of--- winning the light heavyweight title (back when 15 round fights were a thing). All the respect in the world for someone arguably considered the greatest of all time.
-Muhammad Ali - That win over George Foreman is probably one of the greatest wins ever in the history of boxing.
He's up there, not sure about top 5 though.
Good suggestion.
A fighter who got damn near dominated by Dave Tiberi in his prime and has zero dominant wins over top level opposition is one of the best P4P fighters of all time.
Strewth.
Again, your opinion.
But then you go and throw out Ward? Give me break, princess.
Ward is a gold medalist. Fought great opposition and won convicingly. He's undefeated too, hasn't lost since he was 13. Let's not forget his career is still on the line and if he passes Kovalev he'll be even greater.
These lists are pretty pointless, boxing is has so much history.... I always feel with these sort of lists (whether it be P4P all time or 'Greatest of all time' - whatever that even means in honesty) that there are too many people of equal calibre, that realistically in a top 10 list there are 20 or 30 guys that deserve to be in there on equal pegging as any of the others.
However... just from my own personal knowledge (and I don't profess to be a boxing historian that watches reel after reel of black and white footage)... I would have to include guys like; Prime RJJ, Prime FMJ, Prime Whitaker, Prime Duran, Prime Leonard.... and this is the problem... I could easily name another 5 guys that equally deserve to be on there, I literally just wrote these in a random order but nobody can say any list like this is definitive and arguments could be made for probably 30 other guys.
Agree but it's no coincidence you named some of the most well rounded fighters ever, so that's a solid list.
He might be P4P most feared of all time, until of course the quality of opposition went up.
Again, your opinion.
But then you go and throw out Ward? Give me break, princess.
Some people overrate him so badly. He fought so many jokes, I get it in his prime (before prison and blah blah) he looked great against who? Nobodies. When he got in there verse quality opponents he broke down.
Mike is great, a legend. Not top 5, maybe 10
I admit it, i absolutely love Tyson but in his prime, he would get ****ed up so so badly by a prime Muhammad Ali. After 6 rounds he'd be ripe for the picking
