So HBO Officially Dropled Pac

Almost.... Between My Fight: Kovalev/Ward and the Road To Kovalev/Ward (which I have no idea how many re-airs HBO committed), you're looking at 40 minutes of promotional material by HBO (25 minutes, depending on the Road To push). Compare that to the push that got put behind Canelo-Khan (two 24/7s, a Face-Off, nevermind the nearly weeklong push on ESPN). Will wait on firmer number to come in (over 13k anounced being in the building isn't bad), but the promotional push ended up being nowhere near where I guessed it would've need to be to goose up a bigger number. Hopefully the promotional effort ends up being stronger with Roc Nation Sports leading the possible rematch.

If HBO is willing to commit 3 episodes of 24/7 to Kovalev-Ward (two weeks before the fight and an epilogue during the re-air), Kovalev-Ward is a big enough competitive fight that the mainstream interest in the fight will push the PPV number, in my estimation, comfortably over 400k PPV buys. Almost....

Given how low the Canelo-Smith buy-rate appears to be, it'll interesting to see what Pacquiao-Vargas PPV numbers do without HBO.

Pac has turned into a complete joke, glad HBO canned him. Pac is falling to pieces, Nike now HBO, he let a lot of people down. I would be embarrassed to call myself a Pac fan. So you think the Smith does more buys than Khan? It's the Canelo Alvarez show, so, at this point, the opponent doesn't really matter. Alvarez's next event is on Mexican Independence Day weekend, in the heart of Texas. The fact that the Smith fight is four months after the Khan fight, by default, would leave the expectation that the Smith fight does better business.

No surprise, HBO barely wants to spend on boxing and Pac demands huge purses. HBO has made it pretty obvious they're only willing to pay for Alvarez and Golovkin.

That seems like an ambitious prediction considering Smith is an unknown in the US (who much of the US media criticized when the fight was announced). And the undercard will probably get less attention than the Khan undercard. Alvarez debuted with 350k PPV buys, kept to that 350k-400k number for the Lara and Kirkland fights, had Cotto-Alvarez do something like 900k PPV buys, and the Khan fight, depending on what numbers you believe, did over 450k PPV (while also delivering a monster ending that would have KO fiends wanting to see the next fight). The PPV is going to be promoted as the "Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez" show, with only casual mention of Liam Smith (likely only to the point that the public gets the sense that he's a world-level fighter and champion who isn't a bum)

hbo arent just dropping pac because hes fighting Vargas, theyre done with him completely Remember how they didnt even show Pacquiao in the Bradley/Pacquiao 3 countdown documentary? I Read that even if Pac rematches mayweather HBO still wouldnt show it. All because of some anti gay remarks where pacquiao disagrees with homosexuality, what a joke.

The financial interest isn't there for the rematch, imo. Floyd gets $100m, Pacquiao gets $50 and you'd be looking at, from all of the revenue sources on the fight, basically needing to generate $350m to break even. Max Kellerman isn't going to worry about two fight though and, frankly, neither is anyone else; with Pacquiao having his entire camp in the PI, MGM Resorts having nothing to do with Pacquiao's fight at the UNLV basketball stadium, HBO not pushing the fight in any way (and it being unlikely that Showtime/ESPN pick it up), and Pacquiao's public comments no longer having the media treat him as the "happy go-lucky, smiling, messy English, fighter who flattens everyone, near all of the November boxing energy is going to be geared towards Kovalev-Ward. Canelo-Khan did $7.4m at the live gate, plus the event was hosted by MGM Resorts (closed circuit revenues across all MGM properties), while also doing well on PPV, in addition to having the TV rights for Mexico and the UK worth a good amount of money. Rios, Algieri, and the Bradley fights all did in the range that you mentioned, as that was with HBO pushing those fights as best as they could; I personally think that you're overstating the amount of interest that there still is in seeing Pacquiao fight, especially if it ends up being left to just Top Rank and Steve Kim (possibly Dan Rafael in his mailbags, as I doubt that ESPN does any more than that) to sell the fight.
