I remember years ago, I had a ring magazine that had him featured in the new faces article. Not too long after he lost an upset to Darnell Boone. I hadnt watched much of him but he definitely had talent
fast forward some years and now he is the lineal and wbc light heavyweight champion of the world with 6 defenses
While champion he has defeated Bellew who recently won a title at cruiser, former super middleweight champion Bika, Tavoris Cloud a former titleholder, and has been a good champion
people label him a duck, i just never looked into the situation, I just know Stevenson/Kov never happened
If Stevenson gets past Williams, I want to see him face the winner of Kov/Ward ASAP
Stevenson is the hardest puncher in the division. He is the consistent boxer puncher that Kov is nor the technician that Ward is but he does bring a combination of athleticism, speed and true one power that could put them both out
Neither can say they are the man at 175 until they beat Stevenson
Old man Stevenson doesn't have the skillset to compete with Ward, and doesn't have the defense to keep Beterbiev or Kovalev off of him. Once he steps up and fights one of the top dogs, he's done.
That's why diva Ward waited to 2016 to get into a new division. Quack quack.
It's just politics... Both Stevenson and Kovalev would be willing to meet in a backstreet and sort it out... The problem is upstairs ...
oh and BTW, who gave him a chance against Dawson ? ;)

Stevenson's best days are gone, unless he's just taking his defenses lightly. He looks fatter and is slower. But Stevenson was really great. Great skills, both defensive and offensive skills. Too bad Andre Ward didn't take the offer in 2013 and retired instead.
Adonis has little hope against either. I just don't see all this skill some people see. He is probably the most one handed fighter in the sport. The guy threw like 10 right hands in the Bika fight and they were all **** shots that he looked uncomfortable throwing. He has very little punch variation or speed or level changes. The guy lierally sits and waits to land the counter left or catch you with a lead left. That is like 90% of his game. Granted his left is nuclear, but outside of landing a big counter shot he gets destroyed by Ward and Kov imo.
I'd like to see it play out....One mistake by Ward or Kov and it could be lights out

Thats exactly what makes him all the more exciting, you sit there and watch the fight and you know what youre in for, you know that at any moment that big left hand can come crashing down and it could be all over, thats why every fight he is in, is a must watch, atleast for me.

I copied and pasted it....thought it would be a good thread topic....doesnt get discussed much
how about you stop giving/paying attention to me....you guys are petty.....i find it funny how its always the same guys complaining about my threads, yet they are always the first to post
if you are a fan, just say so....and move on...if not....put me on your ignore list....simple

Who needs head movement and defense if you have swag?
And he does have a jab

....being able to throw a jab doesnt mean you know how to control you opponent, the distance and the pace of the fight with it....his jab is not versatile and is underused
We didn't know he was shot at the time, like I said. People thought it was a decent win. Hindsight is 20/20 -- Dawson was already toast when he fought Stevenson.
If Dawson was one name among this incredible resume of Stevenson's then I would just be some butthurt guy nitpicking, but that isn't the case. That's his flagship win and one of his only notable ones.
bellew just won the wbc cruiserweight title.....
He was the first to stop Tavoris Cloud and also beat him a year before Beterbiev(who is hyped on this site)
Fonfara has been a top ten light heavyweight a long time and Stevenson beat him right before his two biggest wins, over cleverly and chavez jr.
with just 27 fights under his ledger, I'd say winning the wbc in the ring, defending it 6 times and 3 over former champions is not a bad resume at all
most guys with 27 fights havent even fought for a title, let alone beat more than one top ten contender.
Look at brook...only beat porter
Martin Murray never beat anyone rated
his resume is not as bad as you're making it out to be....short career and advanced age...its pretty impressive in some ways
beterbiev?
He is a decent fighter but literally has no head movement, lacks a jab and throws wide shots
He has power...woooooopeeeeeee
Every good fighter looks like tyson vs the level of opposition he fights...he fights Ward, Kov or stevenson, today, he gets wrecked
he has no defense

He got hit with a good shot, more than he was shot.....what happened to him was similar to roy jones but in different order....was 1 punch kayoed by tarver, and then took a shellacking from johnson and was never the same....getting stopped and kayoed makes you gun shy, and tight....after a beating from ward, and the one shot kayo(it happens its boxing) it took away his confidence. Most fighters stop punching with their opponents, and peek a boo when punched at
neither guy was ever the same after a prolonged beating and one punch kayo
I think it was gradual, he didnt wake up one day and go from BAD Chad Dawson, not the guy that lost to Karpency...he was done after stevenson ko'ed him not before
I don't regard Stevenson as a factor at 175. Ward is already bigger player at 175 just by arriving.
Stevenon wouldn't fight Hopkins. Wouldn't fight Kovalev. Wouldn't fight Pascal. You can't shave the top of your division off, fight #15 and keep saying they have to get past you because you're lineal. Lineal belts are a joke.
He landed a punch on a shot-to-**** Dawson and that's basically the legacy he's living off of.
Plus that would probably be the easiest fight of Ward's career. Stevenson has one punch in his arsenal and Ward is a guy who watches patterns and starts punishing you for them, has boxing skills several lightyears ahead of Stevenson.
I doubt that Stevenson would have had concerns with taking on Hopkins and Pascal. There was at one point or another interest in those fights. Kovalev, I'm not so sure of though.
The way its looking, the earliest a fight can happen with either Ward or Kovalev is next year for Stevenson. By then, he would be approaching 40. His chances are becoming less and less likely of Stevenson winning. He should have already done that fight.
dawson was not shot.....at that point he hadnt been in many grueling fights to that point outside of his early fight with Glen Johnson and Ward
a guy takes 2 or 3 losses and their shot now?

No he does not. He's old, has displayed little skill and his resume sucks balls. The only reason he's even in the conversation is because he stole the lineal 'crown' and made a mockery of it with his crappy defenses.
His only 'notable' is beating Chad Dawson after he was drained by Ward and left Iceman's gym. Dawson fell apart during/after Ward fight, so a win over him means absolutely nothing.
dawson asked to come down, got in the ring and lost
