Jesus christ this dude was eating some NASTY shots from Chilemba, at one point it looked like Kov's head literally touched his own back, his head was getting jerked around like a rag doll but he managed to take it pretty well.
He's been hit with some really wild shots he shouldn't have been hit with, I keep seeing him exposed when he comes in, off balance quite a bit too.
Even if he does beat Ward, I don't think he'll survive the monsters that will be coming for his titles, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Bivol etc.
His competition's power has been really soft up until this point and Chilemba was the 1st true LHW he's fought since probably Agnew (Caparello moved to 168)
Opponent KO%'s:
Chilemba-33%
x2 Pascal-47% (hasn't ko'd anybody relevant in years)
Hopkins-48% (last KO was in 2004 against ODLH)
Ward-52%, yes, Ward is actually the hardest puncher he will have faced in years
I still believe that Kovalev would stop Stevenson, now and 3 to 5 years ago. Alvarez is a better, younger and more skilled fighter than Adonis. Even the extremely slow and mediocre Fonfara gave Stevenson big problems in their first fight.
Oh, this is a nice little gem. Don't wanna be that guy, but sometimes it's nice to take credit for a good call.
Indeed, got to give you your props here!
People will freak the fk out on you and red k you up and down (some Kov fans are very sensitive) but everything you said is truthful. I still feel that Kovalev is a fantastic fighter but have commented how he plays little defense and his face is always there to hit for anyone who has the gumption to do so. Guess what? I was absolutely right.
The difference is that Chilemba wasn't 50 years old and was able to actually make himself tricky to hit at times. This gave him the courage, and ability to do what others haven't. The guy still got soundly beat. Make no mistake. But, I think everyone was thinking the same thing, "If that was Ward, this dude would be in serious trouble".
Kovalev will correct some of these problems. How much he can fix will have to be seen on Nov 19th.

Father time takes another big W.
But then again, Alvarez is only 1 year younger.
Bivol vs Alvarez is an interesting fight, also can't wait to see Gzovdyk uncrown Stevenson.
His reflexes were so slow early on and all fight he got hit with shots that he would usually slip. His time at the top is over, on to the next one. Bivol vs Alvarez vs Gvozdyk vs Jack. One of them will emerge as the top dog soon hopefully.
The shot that hurt him was borderline but legal, it landed on the belt, right at his waist, not below it. A right hand had Sergio on queer street.
I meant in the stoppage, the legit right hand that hurt Kovalev could be seen from space......but Ward is not a finisher and Kovalev was avoiding legal shots while hurt...Ward looked on the upside and I'm not gonna deny that, but they were low, and the 3 punch combo at the end was blatant...
keep bragging about that though, you should feel bad that Weeks robbed both fighters and maybe Ward of a better win.
Way to brag about that BS....they were all lowblows.....he(and Weeks) robbed himself of a fair win and even a KO

:nono:
Kovalev is lucky they stopped it, SOG nearly ended his career.

Are people really saying that the dude who couldn't KO Allan Green after landing everything but the kitchen sink is gonna KO Kovalev? the only way Ward wins inside the distance is if a flying headbutt makes it go to the cards early.
No.
But possibly with a head butt.
Ward will KO him with a grazing jab.
And his phenomenal power. If Chilemba can rock Kovalev's head back with a jab, Ward's jab will tear the head clean off his freaking shoulders!
i like how one fight where he didnt steamroll the guy and you people think the blueprint has been laid
all Ward is gonna do is clinch like a baby hanging on to his mother once he feels the power

kovalev has a ko% of 84%, lol. The first time he tags ward flush, dude will go into retreat mode after being hit by the hardest puncher he has ever faced. :boxing:
he will adjust and win, having power isnt the end all be all of a fight
]Kova is elite definitely a P4P fighter, but I've always had a feeling he's not the most durable. I don't think he would last a war with somebody like Beterbiev.
Agreed. That's why I've always thought Stevenson has a better chance to beat Kovalev than most people on here say he has. There was a video of Kovalev getting KO'ed in amateurs by a straight left very similiar to Stevenson's. It's a shame that this fight never happened.
As for Beterbiev, not many people would survive a war with him. Kovalev would waited out the early storm then pick him a part with his jab to the body and evetually KO him around round 7-8 IMO.
