You all know Kovalev is limited, fights in straight lines, is one dimensional, has no inside game and will basically get schooled by Ward. Also his fitness socks and he will be fighting pound for pound numerous Uno.
Real question is 'what round will Ward stop Kovalev'?
I think SK is getting a tad too much stick after this fight. People are major over reacting. Shows the stock of Kovalev that if he doesn't put somebody of Chilemba's stock away in 4/5 rounds he's suddenly demoted in some way! Chilema is awkward & durable always has been !I just finished the HBO replay, and I don’t think Kovalev looked bad per se. It was definitely not his A or even B+ game, but he was never even close to being in trouble and generally controlled the fight. He mostly seemed frustrated he couldn’t put Chilemba down & out! I rated Chilemba as pretty good going in, so predictions he was getting blasted out within 6 were way off to me.
Chilemba definitely started connecting with the jab, but never to really do anything it except to score and keep Kovalev away. He never really seemed to set up any combinations or power punches with it. There were definitely some body shots here and there, but the scores that had him within a round or two seemed way off base to me. Every time he tried to exchange, they just seemed to fall over each other.
It did almost follow the normal Kovalev fight pattern. Slow start, Kovalev starts to land a little, lands some more, that big shot comes thru, and he jumps on them and finishes it. It did all that just slightly later than usual and Kovalev didn’t seem to have the stamina both within the rounds and within the fight to finish it. If that shot in the 7 had come a little later, I think he could’ve finished him off. Then normally once he has someone hurt at the end of a round, he jumps on top of them at the beginning. The next couple of rounds, he looked tired and seemed to rest until the very end of the round where he would really turn it on and hurt Chilemba. It looked like he never quite had the energy to go for the kill and resigned himself to the UD.
Overall I think it was a good fight for him like RJJ said at the end. He got good rounds in against an awkward, defensive fighter. Obviously this caliber of fight from him isn’t going to beat Ward, but he can learn something from it. That is definitely more than you can say for what Ward is going to get from Brand.
Will you change your tune when he beats Ward?
IF he beats Ward
And yes, I will
He doesn't even have to beat Ward for that, I will change my tune when he beats some other top 5 light heavyweight in more convincing manner, than Cilemba fight
I'm picking Kovalev to win.
The only way he may lose is if the officials are crooked. The referee is very important, because if the ref permits it, Ward will use his illegal tactics (head butts, arm-clamps, low blows, hitting off the break, etc) and that could make a big difference.

And if Sergey doesn't knock him out, the judges may rob him.
Still, I'll pick a highly-motivated Kovalev by late KO/TKO.

I can understand them. Why you have to like some fighter if he's losing fights. If your favorite fighter losing fights it means that he never was that great in the first place and you should stop caring about him because he'll lose again
And I don't care about Kovalev after Chilemba fight. It'd be better if he lost that one than winning like this. Isaac proved that Kovalev is overrated fighter and his best scalps is 69 y.o Hopkins and washed up super middleweight bodybuilder Pascal
Why I should keep liking some fighter if he's not doing what he's supposed to do? Nobody likes people who lose

I get what you're saying. I guess it all depends on why someone likes a fighter. I like watching most fighters and love watching guys like Kovalev, GGG, Pac, etc. However, I'm a fan of fighters based on their character and some of my faves in that regard have certainly fallen from grace. It's not easy being a Guerrero or Trout fan but I think they're cool people so they've got my support no matter how irrelevant they become.
Ward has failed to knock out so many lesser fighters than Kovalev. Why would anybody think he would KO the tough Russian? Ward might win on points. Ward winning by KO is possible but extremely unlikely. Knocking guys out is a Kovalev specialty. Ward should stick to careful boxing. Going for a KO might be a mistake.
And a basic level of humanity can lead you to understand that a loser need some supports.
But I guess that I'm speaking to a wall
But instead of showing some support to the guy who was their favorite before losing, they're always trying to make up some excuses for him....Pacquiao injured his shoulder....Gary Russell would beat Lomachenko 99 times out of 100...and all that stuff. That's not how you show your support to your favorite fighter in my book
And before any potential fight I'd better underestimate my favorite fighter that overestimate him. I have higher expectations for my favorite boxers than for others, that's why I always want them to get better than they really are. But I won't look for excuses if they'll lose
I can understand them. Why you have to like some fighter if he's losing fights.
By loyalty or in memory of all the good fights he delivered !
You have to know that some people feel that boxers are also humans, in fact they are not similar to those who are displayed on your Playstation.

Sadly, after Ward beats Kovalev, they will abandon Kov and start saying he was never that great. I've seen them do it before when their favorite guys get beat.

At my opinion, Ward has no chance to stop Kovalev.
Kovalev-Chilemba fight shows us how Kovalev can deals with difficulties (sickness, home pressure, november fight pressure, sofa expert pressures...)
It will be a tough tough night for Ward and his fans. Can't wait :boxing:
And Ward fans are exempt from this? They're a different bread, a more loyal type of person? Jesus, do you read what you write?
WTF are you talking about? Am I supposed to give a 50/50 equal time for every fanbase? lol Talk about insecure.
I never said ANYTHING about Ward fans but I will now, just for you princess. When he was in litigation almost everyone here turned their back on him. He was the butt of endless jokes. I was one of about 2 guys on here speaking positively about him. Most of his "fans" now are just looking to back a winner, as is normal. And, that's fine, fans can be fans for whatever reason they like.
You happy now? Did I give equal time?
lol, I didn't read his post until you pointed that out. These guys are having a bad day. They see the writing on the wall and all this "Kov KO's Ward GUARANTEED!" is already turning into, "Both need to be at their best", and will soon evolve into, "Ward will clinch and it won't be fair".

What about if Ward fought how he fought his last fight? See how this works?
You mean, getting hit w/ a mere 15% of punches thrown and landing nearly HALF of his power punches? I think he would do excellent.
I remember when Chad Dawson was supposed to dominate Ward... Then the unthinkable happened.
If Kovalev fought like he did today, he'd be out in 9 rounds. That said, I don't think he's going to go though this hiccup without learning and adapting. He'll tighten up his game but it's more clear than ever that (as I've been saying) Kovalev has never fought anyone near Ward's level and will lose a decision.

Getting rocked by Paul Smith-wtf????????????????????????????
