Froch went life and death to decision Pascal while Kovalev destroyed and stopped Pascal twice at 175.
Froch gave prime Ward a great fight at 168 and came on strong late in the fight while Ward looked tired, it was 7-5 or 8-4 for Ward. It was NOT one-sided like some people claim.
Ward is now in a new division and coming off a lay-off, fighting a bigger, stronger, and meaner version of Froch in Krusher.
Don't be fooled by the fight today, if the Kovalev from the Pascal or Hopkins fight shows up Ward will be in for the fight of his life.
Thoughts?
Kovalev is stronger. Froch is taller, got longer reach, got a better chin, better stamina and is more experienced against top level opposition. Their skills are at around the same level. Both are skilled enough, but limited.
Nope Kovalev is much better boxer, froch jabs, footwork is not on the same level as Kovalev no way in hell.

Froch had 2nd thoughts about facing a 50 year old Hopkins at 170, that's all you have to know. Swerve Ggg like the plague, if you still have any doubt

If there is a light heavyweight who can beat Kovalev it's Ward. If there is a light heavyweight who can beat Ward it's Kovalev. I think either of them can beat Stevenson or any other light heavyweight with the possible exception of that other hard punching Russian.
Personally I felt that Froch was underwhelming against Ward, though it was probably more that Ward made him look bad than anything else. But regardless of how many rounds you gave Froch, you gotta figure Kovalev has the goods to make for the toughest fight of Ward's career.
Kov is roughly his height, roughly the same reach (maybe even kov adv?), naturally larger, a stronger puncher, skilled tactically, and fairly proven at the world class level. I'd be a little surprised if Ward walks away with this fight as cleanly as he did against Froch.

Ok, so after running out of ideas regarding the actual Boxing debate, you're now in "I'm raging mad at this guy because I can't refute his boxing points so I'm gonna pretend like I'm pissing him off" mode.
Trading insults is the only thing you can do here since you have nothing left to say regarding the actual topic.
Learn to handle a different opinion kid, it'll get you far in life I promise

I've been talking boxing the whole time, you've been going off-topic and gossiping like a housewife. Trading insults is the only thing you can do here since you have nothing left to say regarding the actual topic.

Ok, after continually escalating, you're now in "I'm raging mad at this guy so I'm going to pretend I'm really bothering him" mode. I don't get any joy in trading insults so you're on your own now. That's how emotional and upset I am. lol
Ok, I've pissed you off so much you're playing the red K comments game. Cute.
Even cuter that you're also playing it while pretending to be above it.

Well you seem real pissed off by my red K, chill dude it's just a little negative karma in a boxing forum not the end of the world lol.
I simply claimed Kovalev hits harder than Froch, and you had a meltdown. Then I pointed out Kovalev has knocked guys out with single jabs when you claimed he didn't have 1-punch power. How am I making stuff up?
I never said "i know the sport, you don't", but it's clear that's the case now.
I don't need to lie about his resume, nor am I saying that he beats Ward. All I'm saying is that Kovalev hits harder than Froch, and has a chance to hurt Ward in a competitive fight. Somehow that has activated your b1tch mode.
Nah it's because you go off-topic and go on irrelevant rants and personal attacks whenever someone has a different opinion that you can't refute. It's funny in someways actually.
Either refute my point that Kovalev hits harder than Froch, or go have your period somewhere else dude. This is childish.

Ok, I've pissed you off so much you're playing the red K comments game. Cute. You're still making stuff up and getting frustrated, evidenced by the fact that you feel the need to pull the "I know the sport, you don't".
I love watching Kovalev fight and he's one of the guys I study when looking for ways to expand and refine my technique. Despite the fact that I hold him in high regard, I don't feel the need to lie about his resume. It's not great. The best wins were a shot Pascal and 50 year old Hopkins. Chilemba is is his best win now, IMO. His resume does not represent his ability as a fighter.
You seem to think I'm hating on Kovalev just because I'm not exalting him.

I piss a lot of people off because I don't fighter-worship.
Nah it's because your b1tch mode gets activated and you go on irrelevant rants like a little kid whenever someone has a different opinion that you can't refute. You obviously never learned social skills growing up. It's funny in someways actually.

You obviously haven't followed Pascal's career. You think Kovalev doesn't finish guys with 1-punch, yet Froch does? You do realize Kovalev has knocked people out with single jabs to the body? Come back and run your mouth when you've actually watched a Kovalev fight.
Me bothered? I simply said I think Kovalev hits harder than Froch, which most people with a brain have agreed with. Of course it's possible he'll 1-punch Ward, this is boxing. But you seem bothered by the mere suggestion that Kovalev vs Ward will be competitive.
I've backed up my opinion, you're the one who acts like you're on your period for some reason, so I'ma let you at it.

You're empty on facts and stats and just going with what you feel sounds right. Pascal hasn't had a relevant win in years. His only real win in a while was Bute, who himself has done nothing.
You can't just call someone a 1 punch artist when they don't finish guys that way. Now you're just pretending.
You sound really bothered by what happened today and are trying to talk yourself into the idea that Kovalev will 1 punch Ward. Bad news, Ward is one of the hardest to hit in the game and he's several levels above Chilemba. Time to come to terms with it.

Lol come on…. when did Pascal become a shell of a fighter? Because Kovalev stopped him? Not saying Pascal was prime of course, but calling him a shell of a fighter is going too far. Pascal was still a top fighter and had won every fight other than 2 close fights with Hopkins. The 1st beating from Kovalev did take a lot out of him though.
To me Kovalev is definitely more of a 1-punch artist while Froch tends to wear you down more with body shots. Kovalev has had more vicious 1-punch knockouts than Froch, but if you disagree that's fine.
Generally if we use a little common sense, higher weight = more punching power. Not always true but I think it's true in this case with Kovalev and Froch. I'm a fan of Froch, love his style and rooted for him in big fights but I just don't think he has the freakish power Kovalev has which seem to just come out of the blue
That's my point, the strongest puncher Ward has fought has been Froch at 168, who IMO doesn't hit as hard as Kovalev does at 175. I think the difference in power is considerable. Froch is a strong puncher but Kovalev's power in that right hand is freakish and explosive.

You do realise the Pascal that Kovalev fought was an over the hill one right? Kovalev is not fit because he is used to blasting guys out there and not getting hit. Once he starts missing and getting countered his fitness is like that of a granny. Ward has an inside game, can tie ùp opponents and push them around. This fight is a mismatch.
You do realise Pascal was a questionable prospect coming off unimpressive Fnf outings when he travelled to Nottingham?
I don't think Froch gave Ward a great fight, he won 4 rounds at best.
However, if Kovalev landed the same punches Froch landed, Ward isn't going to go 12 rounds.
He has to be at least as good as he was in 2011, and probably better defensively.
A lot of rounds in Ward vs Froch was close, don't get me wrong Ward obviously won 8-4, but I felt it was competitive to the end especially in the last few rounds where Froch came on strong. Froch def had a dumb game plan in that fight.
I agree Kovalev has the power to KO Ward especially since Ward is coming off a long lay-off and in a new weight.
IMO Kovalev's people were smart to ask for the fight this year, it gives Ward less time to shake of the rust. Both fighters will have to be perfect if they want to win this fight.
You're using the Pascal from 8 years ago as a comparison for the shell of a fighter Kov fought? Come on...
I think they assert power in different ways. Froch had real 1-punch KOs whereas Kovalev's power is more cumulative and he will quickly wear down a guy with just a few shots.
I've never seen Kov at 168 or Froch at 175 so it's hard to say which is stronger-P4P. It's easy to forget about Froch when he's been out of the spotlight for a while but watch a highlight reel before being so quick to dismiss his strength. Frock was also fighting against a lot of talented guys in a stacked division. Kovelev's biggest challenge has been Chilemba. So, a little perspective is in order.

We know Kovalev has never fought someone the level of Ward. But is it possible that Ward has fought someone the level of Kovalev? Or at least close to it?

Of course Kovalev is, no denying that. The scariest part about Kovalev other than his power is that he has deceptively fast hands and he'll feint you to death.
Of course he's stronger than Froch.
Froch always made 168 comfortably when active. He was perfectly built for the weight really and might not have made the jump up to 175 as well as some people. Froch could definitely crack but he was never known as a devastating puncher in general.
Sadly for Kovalev, it's not just about strength. I'm a fan of his but unless he can control the distance and fight at the exact distance he wants against Ward, then my man Kovalev is going to be in for a long frustrating night.
I don't really know how good Ward is right now though and it's easier said than done containing a guy like Kovalev for 12 rounds.
