This fight does absolutely nothing for him. He'll win and nobody will blink. He doesn't gain a thing.
I'm guessing negotiations with Eubank Jr fell through. Even then, there are still better options if he wants to stay at MW and can't get the belt holders - Andy Lee is a solid, known opponent and a different kind of challenge due to the big height and reach difference along with Andy's heart. Khurtsidze is still a fight hardcore fans would like to see, and once again poses a different challenge due to him being the MW Mike Tyson. There is even a very promising prospect in Maciej Sulecki. Sh*t, I'd even rather see Peter Quillin than this.
He doesn't have the time and fights to waste so I really don't get it.
Credit to Brook for taking it, but for him that's a move that took way more balls than brains.
Well becasue Canelo, Jacobs, Saunders, Eubank all refused to fight but still should've pick a real middleweight tho..
Good for Brook now people will say he got more balls then those guys, and if wins those guys will really look bad

I think he basically took it because he had a goal of fighting at least 3 times this year and thus far, he has only had 1 fight. If he didn't get something lined up this month,it would be November or December before his next bout, giving him only 2 fights the entire year.
After he destroys Brook, he still has time for a December bout if his team starts looking for an opponent now.
Lots of excuses being made for Triple G
The same people were blasting Canelo
I really can't defend G with this pick
He should have moved up a weight rather than bring a guy up from 147
You are right. Almost everybody expects him to win by KO and a KO win won't raise his stock. He tried to get fights with Saunders and Eubank but they wouldn't fight. Brook was the best fight being offered to him. He is, after all, a prize fighter who fights for money. I am pretty sure fighting Brook in his back yard will make GGG a career high payday. I don't blame him for taking the fight. Almost any boxer in his position would have done the same thing. What better fight was available to him?
Yet Andy Lee is the far better and more competitive fight. Why do you think that might be? Could it have something to do with weight divisions?
The Brook fight is a non starter.
Andy Lee loss his belt to BJS in December 2015. He hasn't fought since and he's promoted by Dibella (I think) who's clearly aligned with Haymon. That's not to say that Lee wouldn't fight GGG, but the current situation would make that unlikely. Why would Lee fight GGG off a loss + inactivity? Why would Dibella actually let him? Lee could have a tune-up on PBC instead. It's also obvious that GGG is UK-bound, but it would probably make more sense to fight Lee in NY.
Lee is the more competitive bout, but there's other factors that make him an illogical opponent. At the end of the day, we don't want to see GGG/Lee either. I'd rather Lee vs. Eubank/O'Sullivan/Ryder.

Andy Lee is taller LMAO....
FFS.. Eubank was stalling. Brook stepped up! You're al calling for a name to fight him (after Canelo, Saunders etc punk out) yet when one does you whine! Brook is the #1 WW in the world, he brings many things!
Andy Lee LMAO..
Because he's taller? WTF! Brook is light years ahead in terms of skill..
Which is a better win for Hopkins? Tito or the taller Howard Eastman fight?
Please use your brain next time..
Also this is ONE fight.. Who is suggesting Golovkin isn't going to fight fellow MW's (CEJ, Jacobs, Saunders) after this anyway? Get over it..

The point is those are at least guys his own size. Andy Lee will fight anyone and that is a fight I'd really like to see - some people say Golovkin is troubled by southpaws and taller opposition so Andy would be a great test. It's a fight I really want to see and I'm sure many others would too. He will get credit for beating Irish, certainly a lot more than pummeling Kell Brook.
The others admittedly are plan X,Y and Z but at least they are in his division, not two below.

GGG already beat Andy Lee 29-9 in the amateurs. Also, he beat Bute, Dirrell and Korobov. All southpaws. 'some people' are probably reading too much into the off night against Ouma...
I can see k2's perspective here. They get turned down by Canelo after wasting all year, having to waste time fighting Wade because of the extension Canelo demanded, then they go after Saunders who turns them down, Jacobs says he needs a year and a half, then they think they have a fight with Eubank, work for 3-4 weeks with Eubank/Hearn only for him to not sign. They needed to get something done asap after getting dicked around for so long by multiple opponents.
They got Brook because they were working with Eddie Hearn for a nearly month straight working on the Eubank fight. All the UK **** is done by Hearn, he got everything in place with Sky Sports, the UK PPV, the revenue, the venue, the international network deals, etc etc. Everything was in place for Golovkin to fight. Eubank wouldn't sign, Hearn offered Brook with the exact same deal to Golovkin and they took it. I can see why given the circumstances.
Neither Matchroom and K2 were gonna let all of this time/energy go to waste.
Other questions: why are the sanctioning bodies allowing GGG to defend his belts against Brook, and why is HBO allowing the bout to take place?
I think we know the answers.
As I said, neither Andy Lee nor Quillin are interested since they're coming off losses.
Pretty much everyone left him hanging... again (BJS/jacobs/Canelo ducking, DeGale has match w Jack, Ramirez injured, Eubank being a pain in the ass).
He's got no options. So it was either fight a well known, highly ranked WW or some unknown 15th ranked MW. You can easily see why he chose to goto England and build his image there instead of fighting the old midget or Heiland.
None of these guys do much for his resume, but Brook does the most in name building/recognition.
Brook isn't going to build GGG's name. That's the whole point of all this disappointment and outrage - Brook taints Golovkin's name and reputation exactly like Khan did to Canelo.

He is going to be shamed endlessly for the Brook fight, exactly like Canelo was for the Khan fight. It's the exact same situation.
I would't say it's exactly the same. Brook is a huge Welterweight who struggled to make 147 for years, probably more of a natural 154 fighter. Khan is a guy who couldn't even take shots at lightweight or light welterweight.
But yeah, i'm a big GGG fan but i won't give him much credit for this win really. I understand why he took the fight though, from a business perspective.
Plus, i think if he's willing to fight a welterweight and thinks it's fair game, then GGG should have no excuses about size and being on the other side of it if he's asked to move up two divisions to fight the likes of Ward or Kovalev. I think that's fair enough.
Don't fool yourself.
There's no way on earth GGG gets ANY credit for being Andy Lee. You know it and i know it. I really like Andy Lee but if GGG knocked him out they will just say he was coming off a loss, Saunders dropped him and he's been KO'd twice before. That's the truth. Just like he got no real credit for beating Murray, Geale, Lemieux etc. He's at the stage now where folk will always dismiss his wins, even if they would be very good wins for anybody else. Like they did with Floyd.
He won't get any credit for beating Brook either and he shouldn't, but at least he'll get paid much more. So what's the point in fighting Andy Lee for less money when nobody is going to give him respect for it anyway.
Because it's the respectful thing to do as the MW champ, especially after the Canelo/Khan debacle and Golovkin's thoughts on it. He will get credit for beating Lee, nothing earth shattering, but people will at least acknowledge that he is sticking with the top fighters in his division and taking on someone who has a name and a couple of real advantages over him.
He is going to be shamed endlessly for the Brook fight, exactly like Canelo was for the Khan fight. It's the exact same situation.
Little G took the fight because he is afraid of taking any risk. He could probably beat Lara, but he is afraid. Lara and and Andrade have been calling him out, but Little G is afraid of the risk. Ward called him out, but Little G was afraid of the risk. Eubanks, Billy Joe, and Jacobs are calling him out, but Little G is afraid of the risk. Gilberto Ramirez has been calling him out.
So when you are afraid of risk, you start making excuses, and go cherry-picking.
