People are so naive, thinking Kovalev stands anything more than just a puncher's chance against Ward. Kovalev doesn't have a bigger size advantage than Froch or Kessler did, two proven elite fighters whom Ward completely disarmed. His punching power is bigger, yeah, but he doesn't have the speed or skills to take advantage of it. Kovalev is not on a different level from Froch or Kessler, he's around their level. Ward will absolutely clown him and it's obvious to anyone who knows anything about boxing. To be honest, we should already start thinking about who that could be a fitting opponent for Ward when he's done with Kovalev and who Kovalev should face in a confidence booster to get back on track after Ward beats him.
Bump.... Props
Except the last part of his post never happened.
:lol1:
In no way, shape, or form did Ward school him or even decisively win.
Only the part about the knockdown was accurate.
Kovalev is good, but he is, at best, gonna knock Ward down one single time and will then get schooled even worse when Ward steps up the tempo.
Bump.... Props
Kovalev will look like an amateur in this fight. He's a great fighter, just like Froch and Kessler were, but Ward will dominate him in the same way he dominated them. The speed and skills are on a completely different level.
Kovalev's biggest flaw is the fact that it seems to be really hard for him to maintain the balance and stay firmly on his feet, especially when he moves forward and try to attack. I can see Ward taking advantage of that, I know that Virgil Hunter study all Ward's opponents and I bet he noticed that hole in Kovalev defense already, Ward will be trying to catch Kovalev off balance, that's how Caparello dropped him by the way
Clinching and headbutting won't help Ward though
And Ward needs to avoid those body shots from Kovalev, they might slow him down in later rounds
I agree with everything you said about kessler and froch stylistically.
I think that Wards ability to adjust will be key. Kov can adjust too. The difference imo will be Ward will land the cleaner shots and get hit at a lower % ...some rounds will be close. Ward gives you a lot of looks while Kov is very good at what he does. Kov will have to adjust to speed, accuracy, and deceptive power of Ward. I think Ward wil control the distance and will find his timing sooner. That'll be the difference
Neither has fought anyone like the other...great match up
Agreed, I tempted to pick the boxer Ward over the puncher Sergei, it's 75% of time the right bet.
I think Ward's speed will the be the key, Hopkins who is himself a counterpuncher couldn't outspeed Kovalev so he never was able to beat him to the punch.
Ward will beat Kovalev to the punch because he has superior handspeed then clinch, move, headbutt...whatever it takes.
Just like the Pac vs May fight, I said, Floyd has a longer reach and a counterpunching style wich gave him a room to beat Manny.
I added that if Floyd had enough speed (I wasn't sure) to beat Manny to the punch, he will UD the Philipino fighter, otherwise he would have a rough night.
In fights opposing great/complete fighters, speed is always the key.
May vs Manny
Ali vs Frazier (trilogy dominated by Ali)
Duran vs Leonard (trilogy dominated by Sugar Ray)
Speed has been a X factor in those fights, and it will play in Ward's favor in this great match up.
Kova is a complete fighter, he has pretty good handspeed, but not blazing speed like Ward.
Pretty much obvious, but Kova's offensive arsenal is better than Kesslers and Froch's..
Froch has a very nice record, he was a willy fighter in perfect shape with a strong mind wich allowed him to grab wins over Taylor, Direll and Pascal despite losing the first half of the fight in many cases.
But honnestly, Froch was a limited fighter, he was sloppy and slow IMO.
Kessler was more responsible defensively than Froch but couldn't adjust in fights, that's why Forch beat him in the rematch, Forch being smarter as a fighter.
Kovalev IMO, is a more complete fighter than both Kessler and Froch.
He's not slow or sloppy, he can think in the ring and is very responsible defensively.
Also, I think he's a much more efficient puncher.

kovalev confidence booster after losing to ward should be ggg and ward after beating kovalev should fight fury/joshua or whoever is at the top since he said he would be heavy champ by 2016 but obv his plans got derailed by hbo who didn't want him to succeed in life
:haha: :haha: :haha:
they were young upstarts then
win or lose, ward isnt taking those shots Pascal took...he is wide open to straight shots
Ward gives you different looks in one fight, keeps his opponent guessing....man I havent been this hype for a fight since Corrales vs Castillo...i hope this delivers like that one did

I actually see Kovalev outboxing Ward.
I'm not sure Ward can keep him honest & I feel Kovalev will negate his spoiling tactics.
Ward better show a lot more than he has in his last two tune ups as well if he looks anything like that I think Ward will be the one getting clowned.
so ward needs to cheat nonstop to win? and this is what we call a great fighter? why are we lying to ourselves? we already saw ward-kessler which was one of the worst fights of the last decade full of clinching "greatness" so lets not see another. and hopkins did try to clinch kovalev at times but kovalev landed some great punches while he was doing it so i think he preferred to stay away and move. unfortunately ward doesn't even have old hopkins movement so he will be forced to headbutt jump into kovalev and hold nonstop. its goign to be terrible but hopefully he's ko'd quickly to save us the pain.
This is what it is, Kova will have to deal with it or he will lose.
Ward will use clinching and dirty tricks not to beat but mainly to derail numerous Kova big times and put him on the back foot.
Ward can box from the outside too, using speed, defense and reflexes.
This is a great fight, Kova and JD Jackson will elaborate a smart plan, hope they will have a plan B, C and D tough...
its to see who has the best claim to be #1 p4p...i dont care about the global stage
^^^^^every other fight means very little to me in 2016 in comparison to this one
Bud vs the mail man (postol) is a distant second but im looking forward to a champ in my all time fav division
140-154 has been keeping boxing afloat for decades since the heavies kinda fell of after the 90s

Kov by UD - 8-4 with 2 knockdowns, Ward will get caught and Kov will fight smart like the Hopkins fight.
I think Kovalev is one of the ****iest skilled boxers out right now.
do it, John...i'm sure there's some Celine Dion concert on a Friday that you can get comps to
good thing i dont give 2 sh1ts about what Britain is talking about then...this showdown can't come soon enough for this fight fan
It's not really a big fight on the global stage, though.

Funny you should mention that. Celine Dion concert tickets are probably exactly what it's going to cost me to win this fucking argument :lol1:
