From Dan Rafael's chat:
J from BK (Fury's Designated Driver) (Taking the Test)
Danimal, with the NBC PBC card drawing the most putrid ratings thus far, any chance NBC cuts it's losses and refuses to put on another PBC card without some of Haymon's more knwon names?
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (1:13 PM)
No, why would they? Haymon already bought the time. But I am told that at the end of this year, when the PBC/NBC deal expires, NBC is done with it.

This is after he reported this a week ago:
NBC Sports executive Luis Ferrer, one of the point people in negotiating the deal with Al Haymon to bring Premier Boxing Champions to the network in 2015, is leaving effective Friday. Ferrer, who worked as an HBO Sports boxing executive for 10 years before joining NBC in 2013, plans to remain in boxing.

Schaefer's tournament series may be looked at for NBC, per JakeNDaBox. #boxing
Heard them talking about this on Raging Babe's podcast this week.
Should be interesting to see how well this does cuz this should be what fans allegedly want. Its supposed to be top guys fighting top guys & there is going to be a narrative to follow with the tournament format & I'd assume some attempt at throwing shoulder programming that gets fans knowing more about the fighters.
This would be great. It would be regular programming casuals can follow and it should be compelling matchups where winning is rewarded that should make diehard fans happy.
There is a sh1tstorm going on over at HBO and nobody is talking about. Nobody is even attempting to figure out what's going on at HBO. Everything is PBC. Vinyl cost HBO $100 mil and it was canceled. HBO launched Bill Simmons website and his new show and both are doing horrible. His debut show this past Wednesday did 260k in ratings. Bill Simmons salary alone could fund Postol vs Crawford and Ward vs Kovalev. But let's just keep focusing on PBC

Most know hbo is crap. Hell i stuck to my word and cancelled hbo. But y bring it up when the thread is about pbc & cbs?
Lets just hope boxing dont fail.

Word on the Curb: NBC will be in the boxing business in 2018...open to all promoters, per JakeNDaBox.
That's good news. Hopefully this fosters competition and makes for the best fights on tv.
Shame that pbc didn't utilize the platform better. Those mistakes will be indirectly responsible for getting more boxing on tv, just not in the way Harmon envisioned.
Al Haymon didn't go into this venture without a plan, as many message board and twitter experts seem to think. Al Haymon knows exactly what he is doing. Two years from now, PBC will be hailed as the greatest think to happen to boxing in its entire history.
When that happens the critics and naysayers will suddenly develop a severe case of amnesia and fail to remember any of the doom and gloom comments that they have made about Haymon and PBC.
The structure for PBC should be simple.
Biggest Fights: Pay-Per-View
Big Fights: CBS/Showtime
Good Fights: FOX/FS1
I'm sure they'll secure the deals they need but get rid of some of the gimmicky stuff like the WWE stage with entrance ramp, the black ropes, etc. Treat it like it should and let it look like the fights us as fans are accustomed too.
if u havent noticed the vested interest is being a boxing fan. hbo is not going to save the sport its going to continue to lower its funding for boxing yearly if u havent noticed pbc is our last chance in america but people are too caught up in hoping pbc fails to understand the alternative and its not what it was even 2 or 3 years ago
I agree 100%. But Im not looking for HBO, or anyone for that matter, to "save the sport". No media outlet is going to save boxing. Media outlets respond to viewer demand, not some ethical compass within their programming director.
That would be you, as you seem to have some sort of vested interest in whether Haymon succeeds or not, and you have the need to take shots at anyone who isnt a PBC cheerleader.
Im simply someone who used to be in the business, who happens to think Haymons business model ultimately cannot succeed, at least in its current form. Call me a hater if you want, but whether PBC succeeds or fails it wont affect my bank account by so much as a dime. I do however believe that his "plan" will ultimately damage the sport as a whole, so I'm certainly not rooting for him to thrive.
I'm just offering my opinion on a boxing forum. You can always click "ignore" if my positions upset you that much.......

Exactly. They just dont get it. Even when someone like Angel Garcia comes out and admits on video that the philosophy is "why fight a tough fight when you can fight a Salka and still make millions", these rubes STILL dont get it.
but but but it free doe
(at least until its not)
lol
Yet you have the nerve to ask if someone else is 15 years old.
Hypocrite much?
Why is it that the fans that want boxers to be paid the most also want boxing to be free? Haymon's model isn't sustainable and has damaged the sport. Here i am having to listen to scum like Jacobs say he rather fight bums than step up and fight GGG. That doesn't help the sport. But hey if "bums for big bucks" is your motto and you don't like competitive match ups getting done then that's your prerogative.

What Haymon eat don't make me isht, man.
So I give no fucx about 'damage to the sport' you claim Haymon will perpetrate when throughout the history of this game the 'business of boxing' discards fighters like used tampons once they are no longer of use, and typically without their proper financial reward.
Unlike you, I don't see the world through an anti-Haymon/PBC lens. I don't watch this sport to cheer on promotional companies or networks.
But stay salty, my friend. It's a good look for you.
Lehman Brothers nor its collapse has anything to do with my point. Try harder.
And I'm a grown arse man, just like you. But only one of us is in this forum carrying themselves like a bitter pre-teen girl, constantly talking slick about another's man business and praying for his downfall.
Look in the mirror to identify the culprit.

and "shading"??? what are you, 15??

So, when Thurman has been the 'flagship star' for NBC, and Porter has been the 'flagship star' for, say FOX, which network gets the fight? Which network gets the winner of Porter/Thurman and Garcia (flagship star for ABC/ESPN)?
See the dilemma here? It's tough to have it both ways of wanting to lock down fighters to networks for ease of fan tracking AND wanting guys to fight each other too. ESPECIALLY on a time-buy based system with no future commitment from any network.
Whoever is the bigger ratings draw should have the fight be on his network. It's not that complicated.
I want PBC to be successful, I'm not rooting for it to fail like some of the haters. But there is definitely room for improvements and for it to be organized better.
They have enough fighters that they could assign certain ones to be the flagship stars for each network. That would give some continuity to the casual fans and they would have a better idea of where to tune in to watch specific fighters.

Maybe if you had a half billion dollar idea, you'd find someone to put that kind of bread behind you, instead of being on the internet shading on those who did.
Just saying.

The winning formula is quite obvious as seen in last night's fight. But they'd rather spend millions making Lara vs Zaveck/Rodriguez, instead of Lara vs Williams/Charlos/Andrade...
