Do you agree or disagree? The old saying in boxing is that anyone can get caught, and if you're throwing punches with the obvious intent to land and hurt your opponent, and one happens to land that changes the course of a fight (whether it be a one-punch KO or not), then would you really deem that a lucky punch?
Let's make this simple, shall we?
A lucky punch is one that SHOULD NOT have connected. For whatever reason.
For example....@2:38
Not sure I get your point?
That punch was unexpected but it was not lucky.
Jamed had nothing to fear, he was not fighting Kevin Kelly or someone like that.
great screenshot though, i laughed in embarrassment when you posted it.
So did I! I love that pic. PAC's head nearly came off and spinal column too! It showed the blunt force trauma from that punch.
Marquez even landed a left to PAC's body as he fell face first.
Weak jab, jumps in, Marquez slips the jab and kaboom.

What's the reason that shot should not have connected?
Yeah... no.
He wasn't falling, he was leaning forward on his toes to punch without being flat-footed (that way, he could more easily jump back if he saw a punch coming), and he got caught. Don't try to interpret it differently from what it is. The whole thing happened so fast in real-time that one can barely even tell their feet even touched unless they did a snap-second shot of it, thus there was no magic trip that had anything to do with him being KO'ed.
You Pac tards will go to any lengths to make excuses for your boy losing.
You started an excellent thread. You are sweeping away an excuse that they love to cling to, tripping or foot stomping!
Great stuff.
I guess a punch is lucky if the opponent is totally not expecting it. I don't think Pacquiao had any clue that punch was coming. Same goes for Paul Williams against Martinez. I don't necessarily think getting caught with a good punch is the same as getting caught by surprise. In the case of Pacquiao, Marquez tried several times to land that punch so it should have been expected.
In regards to Juan & Pac, the "mistake" made was by Pac "double feinting" his jab but moving forward on the feints. He was looking for Juans reaction but Juan just slipped outside and barely got his right hand to land before Manny would have been by him!
In that scenario Juan was lucky that shot landed, Manny performed a move your taught never to do but Manny is a freelance offensive fighter and takes chances most fights.
Juan still threw the correct counter, something he looked for in all their fights but it took Manny screw up for it to come to fruition.
The phrase "lucky punch" simply comes from a fighter behind on points and the bout closing out when he lands a defining punch to pull the win out.

The mistake was Pacquaio's piss poor defense. When you make a habit dropping your left hand to your side when you throw your right hand, as Pacquaio does, something like that is bound to happen.

There is no such thing as a lucky punch....unless you are the victim of that punch (Lennox Lewis vs Hasim Rahman, Pacquaio vs Marquez, Roy Jones vs Antonio Tarver, Paul Williams vs Martinez) or one of the fans of the victim of that punch (Pacquaio fans).
this guy is forever butthurt lmfao
They suffer so much pain. Marquez landed a similar shot in the 5th round, and Marquez is a great counter puncher.
It hit PAC like a freight train. PAC's spinal column almost popped out of his back.
I like how the *****s love to ignore that
Not only it amplified the effect of the punch, I think it was a big factor for the punch landing to begin with.
when you trip, lose your balance and feel you're going down , you instinctively try to protect from the impact with your hands, that means putting your hands between yourself and the floor. Pac lowered his hands instinctively because he felt he was falling. and that was the moment JMM nailed him.
without Pacquiao tripping, that punch would have been blocked, dodged or even if it landed, it wouldn't have the same force at all, Pacquiao would have taken it, the round would have ended, and Pac would have annihilated the wounded JMM who was on his last legs the following round
What a lucky bastard, no wonder he didn't want a rematch, you dont win the lottery twice
I have a better video, Marquez' perfect ring walk song
this guy is forever butthurt lmfao
When a fighter throws a lot of wild ass punches that only connect a small percentage of the time, he is usually considered raw and inexperienced. If one of those punches happens to connect clean on the opponent's chin and the opponent is counted out, the fans usually call it a "lucky punch." But the fact is that the fighter created his own "luck," no matter how sloppy his offense was.
If however, he wins because his opponent sustained an injury that wasn't caused by a punch (torn rotator cuff, twisted ankle, etc.) then it would be fair to call his win a lucky victory.
This pretty much sums it up

I think a punch can be lucky in the sense that another shot with that type of effect is unlikely to land again, even if the fighter tries everything they did the first time around.

Would ya look at that. Well analyzed bro
Yeah... no.

like you said, didn't matter, the right hand was placed before that meeting of the feet happened so this is all moot, right?
Ive already said that it wasnt lucky the punch landed. It wasnt lucky tbat Jmm timed the **** out of Pac. I just think it was lucky that Pac fell into the punch. Most proffesional boxers at Mannys level take some of the sting out if pretty much every punch. Very very rare that one lands full force. The fact he tripped meant it didnt just land full force, its force was multiplied as manny fell towards the power.
Maybe it ko's him either way, maybe not. It still had an impact.
