I was tired of people mentioning Fonfara as a relevant force in light heavyweight. Now when he's lost, people may be able to focus on the only ones worth focusing on in that weight class: Kovalev, Ward and Stevenson (and Beterbiev too).
I want to see Joe Smith Jr. again. Hopefully he gets another crack at a name, and gets a fight lined up with Chavez Jr. That would be a fun fight to watch. Fan friendly for sure.
Fonfara is not a bad boxer and I don't hate him but I was getting tired of people talking about him like a potential opponent for the big names. I want the big names to fight each other, not Fonfara.
Fonfara is a warrior, and is still one of the top dogs in the division. I'll root for him over the likes of Stevenson all day every day.

Reason #12 why boxing is dead. When a fighter loses they call him a bum
Reason #13 why boxing is dead. Fans only consider 2-3 fighters in every division as credible
Reason # 14 why boxing is dead. if those 2-3 fighters in each division are not fighting eachother on every single card somehow the card is a joke.
I enjoy watching Fonfara. I like his fan-friendly style.
His looked decent enough at times against Stevenson, then got a good win over Chavez..and was involved in a great fight against Cleverly.
Last night was a shock and set back no doubt. But there's some decent fights to be made at LHW involving him. Just not the top couple at the top of the tree.
It's not good for Fonfora lol. I've always thought Fonfora was a top ten caliber tough sob who fights in a fan friendly style so I've been a fan since I first saw him and still will be. It's unfortunate so many fans throw you on to the "ain't ****" pile cuz you lose or lose a few fights.
I felt bad for Fonfara, taking a loss like that in front of friends and family has got to mess with him mentally. Props to him for not making any excuses.
I don't think the loss is embarrassing.... Smith may have been part time at some point but wasn't he a promising amateur?
People making it sound like this man laced up the gloves for the first time yesterday.... Yeah he probably worked in construction between fights while other better paid fighters took time off.
The only relevant top fighters at 175lb are Kovalev and Ward
Kovalev because of actual achievements at the weight, Ward because of his former elite p4p status, who seems to be the same fighter still
The rest haven't done anything, lost, or about to face the 4th no hoper in a row
Fonfara losing doesn't change very much, the division is very top heavy with a very solid lower tier at the top
how can you tell he's the same? he just fought barrera who was a nobody and didn't even look very good. i mean he's used to fighting slow guys like froch so when he fights kovalev i expect him to be ko'd instantly but he was just overrated to begin with. jermain taylor boxed froch just as good as ward before dying in the 12th. is he amazing p4p material?

fonfara was almost ko'd in the first against stevenson so its no surprise. he just has no defense. joe smith will prob fight beterbum now and be ko'd in 1 round and people will go nuts.
Maybe Joe Smith is just better than people thought and we have another factor in the division? I'll be honest I have no idea who the guy is, though.
And let's be honest, very few were putting Fonfara up there with Kovalev or anything, and most of those people are just trying hard to make Stevenson look better.
I don't think losing will hurt Fonfara's stock much, and we'll probably get a rematch. He got caught in the first round against an unknown puncher, shit happens. Fonfara's style and attributes lend itself to getting caught.
I gamble regularly, but Fonfara cost me some dollars.
I am staying away from Postol, cuz he is real good.
If Floyd and PAC rematch, Floyd.
Canelo needs to fight a Charlo, or someone good, if he wins, then GGG.
I honest to god hope that in this life time we never see the debacle which was Floyd/Manny ever happen again frankly I am happy it is all over, though I would have preferred Pac to win. I'm disappointed in just general with that entire fight as to how it all went on as one guy was just head hunting and the other just moving around and not always engaging.
As for betting, hmmmm well can't say I have ever done betting before but like anything else it comes down to luck and picking the right winner or outcome and depending on how much you put down and how much you get returned on the odds...
Tough break on the Fonfara gamble, as for Canelo I would like to see him in those fights I would pick him against Charlo on purely just a hunch/Limb but against GGG I'm not sure.
I know right I forgot about that for a minute but thanks for bringing it up? he went on from giving Chavez Jr and Stevenson trouble to losing to this Fighter who he lost against and came up short especially in the first round was a bit off a shocker..
Then again being Boxing Fans it's always important to brace yourself for the unexpected/unpredictable..

And beat the crap out of Chavez jr!
Peace brother!

Anything can happen in any fight. That's what makes this sport so great. In no other sport can a construction worker change his life with one punch. They make movies about feats like this.
UFC fans would've celebrated what happened last night. Boxing fans turn it into a negative. That's why one sport is thriving and getting $4 billion offers while the other is the butt of all jokes in the mainstream media.
Well, if it was UFC, we would have known who Joe Smith Jr. was already because he would have fought other known guys in their ratings system before getting a crack at Fonfara... Boxing blows, it's all politics and bribing of belt organizations to get rankings..we hardly get the fights we want to see and when we do they almost always let us down... This could be a great year for boxing if the second half heats up with big fights but I'm sure it will just be a letdown of fights that don't get made instead.
I have to admit I was a little surprised that he lost in that fashion especially in the first round was a little unexpected to say the least given this was the same fighter who floored stevenson not so long ago.
And beat the crap out of Chavez jr!
Peace brother!
Top level fighters don't lose to part time fighters/construction workers in the first round by KO....
Call him what you want but that just doesn't happen to good fighters unless they're shot....
he stopped chavez jr, campillo and karpency, clearly beat cleverly over 12 and dropped stevenson. that's a top 5 resume at LHW. his credentials are proven
as for last night's fight, like fonfara himself said, "it happens". this is a hard sport
