New York state athletic commission and top rank going at it! Here's the link fellas..

The homie New England has it right.
Regardless of what TR's financial situation, this is a disaster. Smaller promoters won't be able to put on club shows anymore. Hell, Lou Dibella wont be able to afford to put on a fight in NYC unless he was fronting for PBC and that's ****ing absurd.
Its well-meaning legislation but it would likely eradicate the industry in NY outside of Cotto fights at the Garden, when the bill is supposed to be helping fighters in NY. It doesn't help them OR the state of New York if no one can afford to put on fights in NY and they do them in neighboring states instead.
Crazy for NY to do something like this unless they plan on doing it with all other sports where injury and liability are present. That would include MMA, football, racing and even basketball. It should also include amateur and college sports. They wouldn't because they fear the loss of revenue.
I mean the amount is debatable & I see a solid argument its too high with this new requirement, but I think its obvious more money should be put forward for the fighters in case of serious injury. And I'm sure NY realizes this cuz of the Magomed fight, but its probably something more people should be doing all over the US & the world before bad things happen.
buying more insurance and putting up a million dollar bond for every fighter is different. i'm with uncle bob on this one. the people writing these things have no idea what they're doing.
Arum is right on this one. This will completely kill off smaller cards and promoters from doing business there. Even the big players will shy away from there 99% of the time.
I understand them wanting to protect the fighters, but there has to be a balance. I believe all the commissions should charge a small tax, that would go into a fund, for when disaster strikes.
that's going to tie up way too much cash, even for a major player like bob arum. it's just not going to be worth it when you can promote a fight in new jersey without having to put up a million bucks a pop for an indefinite period.
that's true. I didn't think about that.
you ahve absolutely no idea what the cash flow at top rank looks like, and aren't qualified to speak on it. this is a million dollars a pop. it's not chump change. that's "make or break" type money. you immediately attack arum for his decision, doe :lol1:
love this place.
Bob Arum is a multi millionaire whose net worth has been estimated above $150 million. You are correct, I don't know exactly what the cash flow is at TR. However, we both know that each time Manny has fought, Bob has given him cash advances that far exceeds $1 mil.
Therefore, it is reasonable for me to conclude that he can afford to put up a bond that is 7x less then the advances I know he has paid out, a bond that will then be returned to him so long as a fighter does not sustain injuries that exceeds that amount.
I said that the number would have to be adjusted as well. SO please, stop with your fake outrage. One doesn't have to know everything about TR to have an opinion on Bob being cheap.
$10k isn't enough. ARum is lying as usual, that piece of shit can afford the insurance bond without issue. They will definitely get the money back just as in any bond situation. That said, I know other promoters may not be able to afford it.
I just think this is the way to go, especially now that we are in the era where guys like Kirkland, Provo and Rosado get fight after fight in part because they lose so violently.

I'm not so sure the NYSAC doesn't have this one right. There needs to be measures in place to protect boxers. On site medical care is good but fighters, corers and the ref need to put health above entertainment to a certain degree.
They maybe should adjust the amount and how long the bond needs to be put up (maybe 24 hours before the fight thru the post fight medical exam) but they shouldn't get rid of it IMO.

Yea actually reading more about what this is all about it makes sense to go up on the insurance. If it needs to go up so much is legit question, but honestly it should be more than it currently is so fair play to NY with this thing. I suspect they'll lower the amount before Sept. 1, when something needs to happen, anyway so this will ultimately be a non-story.

Yea, we'll see, supposedly all started with the coming of professional MMAto NY......eager to see what happens since from what I read the NYSAC failed to show face at a conference.
