...and then later backtracking and telling porter "not to worry about it" the last week of the fight the most vile thing he's ever done in his career as a boxing manager?
haymon obviously has his favorites, broner being one of them. he clearly wanted broner to not only look good against porter, but to knock him out.
he knew damn well that porter is a gigantic welter,a guy who competed all the way at MIDDLEWEIGHT in his amateur days. the same guy that had to strip completely naked to make 147 the fight prior. so not only did haymon and broner conspire a plan to make porter strip down 4 extra pounds, but they also implemented a 10lb MAXIMUM hydration limit, meaning that at the most, porter could only come in at 154lbs. team porter not only had the CW to worry about, but also the hydration cap limit as well. but it was no problem for broner who felt 144 as the perfect weight. he also knew he'd be just as big if not bigger than porter come fight night.
towards the last week of the fight, with contracts already having being signed, porters dad goes to the media and says "haymon told us not to worry about the hydration limit clause, he removed it". wtf is that? why did haymon take so long to tell team porter about it? was this part of the plan?
this was all very well documented by the way. read boxingscene articles with the tags broner and porter, and read individual threads too. some tweets from boxing insiders had even mentioned that the 10lb hydration limit was ONLY for porter, and was stated as such in the contract, and that broner could hydrate to wathever he felt he wanted.
only towards the end after the majority of the hard training had been done haymon told team porter not to worry about the hydration limit cap.
that's some shady sh*t right there.
Shawn had an unofficial fight against a guy can't remember his name right now but it's on YouTube
Yeah I seen it man, Kenny was smart to do that, they know his style requires consistency but 160oz gloves and headgear is different. Dont care for GGG but one of the reasons he is so good is because he is active even if its not the best opposition. Come forward fighters need that timing, I am sure the exhibition helped a lil but a fight with Tyner on a Tuesday night on Spike TV without headgear & under the lights would've made a much bigger difference. Just my 2 cents.
^^^this is the truth^^^ and to answer the original question, yes it was vile. Almost as bad as sidelining Porter til the Thurman clash. Some may say well, Thurmans been out of the ring for almost as long BUT given Porters style, activity benefits him greatly which is why Haymen and Thurman are banking on Porter not being as sharp and lunging and falling into shots.
Shawn had an unofficial fight against a guy can't remember his name right now but it's on YouTube
It was more than likely Broner didn't want the fight so instead of just saying no they put a bunch of roadblocks up for Shawn. Shawn accepted everything then team Broner was stuck with the fight then realized it would hurt Broner too so they had it removed. Broner really wanted Shawn to scoff at the demands and turn the fight down.
Exactly. They called his bluff

I always had the idea that maybe Haymon signed off the rehydration limit clause because Broner himself had weight control problems in his camp.

what does this means?
"So obviously he was looking for an advantage in the cotto fight."
and if pac did not get any advantage how did it became worst?
A champion should never have to fight at a catchweight Just because the challenger is the A side. That's why it's worst.
I'm not gon say it No mo
Broner didn't get any advantage. So how was broner vs porter worse?
You sit here and say manny wasn't looking for an advantage by fighting cotto at a catchweight. But turn around and say broner was looking for an advantage against porter by fighting at a catchweight.
You say pac wasn't looking for an advantage against cotto but then say floyd was looking for one against canelo.
You my friend are a hypocrite.
Just be consistent bro.
I just have a bigger problem with title fights at catchweights compared to non title fights at catchweights
I just told you how it's worst. Title fights should not be fought at catchweights.
I didn't say pacquiao had an advantage. I said he was looking for an advantage. That's why he wasn't willing to fight cotto at 147. The fight almost didn't happen over those 2 pounds.
And so what Cotto weighed 146 against clottey. He chose to do that. He wasn't forced to.
Pac won because he was the better fighter, which proves my point the catchweight wasn't necessary.
And Freddie roach came up with the pacquiao vs de la hoya fight at 147 not oscar. Oscar just jumped on it cause he thought it would be easy money.
And was porter drained vs broner? No. So what are you talking about.
And since you mentioned floyd a couple of post ago. did floyd beat canelo because of weight or was it because he was better than canelo? You can't have it both ways
what does this means?
"So obviously he was looking for an advantage in the cotto fight."
and if pac did not get any advantage how did it became worst?
Pac fought at 147 against dea hoya because it was dela hoya's set to cindition and Pac was not in any position to say no.
just like porter can't say no or there will be no fight.
cotto fought at 146 prior how's that worst?
what advantage did pac had against cotto who was clearly the biggerr man
did pac won via cotto's exhaustion because he was drained?
I just told you how it's worst. Title fights should not be fought at catchweights.

The poster said he felt broner vs porter was worse than pac vs cotto and cotto vs margarito .
I disagreed and said I feel pac vs cotto was worse because it was a title fight and Pac had just fought at the full 147 limit 10 months prior.
So obviously he was looking for an advantage in the cotto fight.
Where as broner got ran away from 147. So you can't really blame him for wanting a catchweight. He didn't wanna fight porter. He thought that catchweight request would kill the fight. Porter called his bluff.
Pac fought at 147 against dea hoya because it was dela hoya's set to cindition and Pac was not in any position to say no.

Cotto vs Pac was not worse, you are pulling crap out, Cotto didn't even look like a dead man and he was allowed to hydrate on fight night.
There was never a hydration limit in any of Pacs fights, that is a false lie, Cotto was not drained against Manny, in fact he came out guns blazing like a rejuvenated man, he thought he could impose his size and will early on Pac instead after a few rounds Pac weathered the storm and turned the tide on him, causing Cotto to get on his bike, Cotto actually had a pretty good gas tank in that fight a drained fighter cannot bounce or move around for 12 rounds even while hurt, I believe Bayless should have let Cotto finish the fight he was so close.
Cotto asking for the hydration clause on Margarito was his version of revenge because he believed Margarito cheated and had plaster when he beat him so he wanted to make Margo's life hell asking for the catchweight, but if Margo eye wasn't ruined by Pac, it looked like Margo would have just pressured Cotto and beat him down again. But Cotto swole the eye up again to make it more difficult for MArgo.
According to Sergio Diaz, Margarito's co-manager, the camps had agreed to fight when Cotto insisted on making the bout at 150 pounds with the stipulation of a weight check on the day of the fight, for which the fighters could not exceed 160 pounds.
So Bob was as surprised as we were that Cotto was asking for 150 pounds. Then Bob spoke with Cotto and got him to 152. Then it was presented to us and we went back and forth and we finally settled at 153. They were also asking for a next-day weigh-in where Antonio couldn't weigh more than 160. That was another issue we were going back and forth about. So we threw out 153 pounds with no second weigh-in."
"There was no reason for a catchweight," Diaz said. "This is a junior middleweight title fight, but that is what Cotto wanted and Bob was worried it wouldn't get done because of the issue. We weren't going to accept ultimatums, but we wanted the fight and said, 'Let's work on this.' We weren't going to do 150 or 152 or a next-day weigh-in. Enough with the demands. Bob finally came back at 153 and no next-day weigh-in. I spoke to Tony and he said, 'Let's do it.' We have the paperwork and everything is all done. He will be putting his signature on it soon."
Top Rank's Todd duBoef said he and Arum had no opinion about the weight situation, as it was up to the fighters to be comfortable with the agreement.
"We were acting as a conduit to make the fight. The fighters had the issues about the weight, and we acted as the liaison between their camps," duBoef said. "I'm glad everybody agreed, but it was not easy. We encouraged dialogue between the camps because it was something that was out of our control. We could provide the financial terms for both camps for the fight, but we were not the guys getting on the scale and training."

First off I never said cotto was drained and looked like a deadman. I said it's worst because cotto was the champion being forced to fight a challenger at a catchweight.
Broner vs porter was a non title fight. Cotto vs pacquiao was a title fight.
Broner ran away from 147 with his tail tucked after the maidana fight. So it makes sense that he would want a catchweight to fight a welterweight again. He was shook.
Pacquiao was 10 months removed from his biggest win, which came at the full 147 limit. He had no need for a catchweight.
And Porter wasn't drained either so what is your point?
And I never never mentioned cotto vs margarito the poster I replied to did.
sorry i thought the thread's about porter and broner so i posted about floyd LOL
then explain how were you able to compare draining with cotto and marg agains pac and cotto? and why was it worst?

Nothing is new in boxing, Arum does this with all his in house fights. Pac v Cotto, Cotto v Margarito etc
Cotto vs Pac was worse.
Pacquiao had just fought oscar at the full 147 limit 2 fights prior to the cotto fight and cotto was the champion.
porter vs broner was a non title fight

Who are you referring too? Floyd
cause I could have sworn I was responding to a post about pac vs cotto and cotto vs margarito compared to broner vs porter.
You are a hater even when you don't have to be.
Floyd this
Floyd that.
I didn't mention him nor did the poster I was replying too.

then explain how were you able to compare draining with cotto and marg agains pac and cotto? and why was it worst?
negotiate for 144lbs CATCHWEIGHT and came 146;bs vs marquez was way better right?
fought a smaller cotto at 154 then fought a bigger canelo at 152 CATCHWEIGHT were also much better right?
don't fight at CATCHWEIGHT THEY SAY

Cotto vs Pac was worse.
Pacquiao had just fought oscar at the full 147 limit 2 fights prior to the cotto fight and cotto was the champion.
porter vs broner was a non title fight

It's by far the worst draining though. Margo was a career welter and the weight limit was 150, Cotto weighed in at 146 in his fight previous to Pac fight and it was 145 in the contract.
Porter is ****ign MASSIVE and they made him fight at a very very dangerous weight for him. It was clearly designed to make him lose, to reduce the chance he had to win to near zero, to give Broner the biggest possible chance to win. And Porter stil won. Great victory for Porter.
Cotto vs Pac was worse.
Pacquiao had just fought oscar at the full 147 limit 2 fights prior to the cotto fight and cotto was the champion.
