Or do you refuse to look at the bigger picture and criticise Haye on every decision he makes?
David Haye, as we all know, returned to boxing after a lengthy break, while having to overcome career threatening injuries. Yet these two points are ignored when "boxing fans" claim Haye is a laughing stock for his current choice of opponents.
David is practising an approach that many big name legendary heavyweights have done in the past including greats like George Foreman, Mike Tyson, and Evander Holyfield. So, David's approach or style of match making has precedence in boxing folk lore/history. When Foreman made his unlikely comeback to boxing after ten years away he faced nineteen questionable/lesser opponents. After Holyfield came back to boxing after his suspension from boxing on medical terms he faced and defeated Jeremy Bates, Vinny Maddalone, and passed their primes Lou Savarese, Frans Botha, and Brian Nielsen. After Tyson was released from prison and came back to boxing he faced Peter McNeeley, Buster Mathis, jr., Frank Bruno and Bruno Seldon. These guys certainly were not the best heavyweights of the talent rich 1990's. Looking at the current heavyweight picture who have Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder faced?? Nothing out of the ordinary in relation to how Haye has conducted his comeback this far.
I'm with you on this one. I think haye would beat most of them out there. And I know people keep saying to fight a real opponent. But who is actually going to fight him. The names everyone mentions wouldn't fight him. They are trying to get a title shot. They wouldn't risk that to fight haye. He could probably get a tony thompson or someone. His a conman. It's not like his fights are on ppv. It's on dave which is free. And I don't think anybody had a gun to their heads to buy tickets.
Haye would beat the likes of Joshua, Parker and Ortiz even now in my opinion but he hasn't done enough yet to earn the right to challenge for the World title which is why I really believe he should step it up after Briggs. Hearn knows Joshua hasn't earned his Heavyweight stripes yet. Even now, Chisora would give him a run for his money.
I'll give Haye a break. He has been out of the ring for 3-4 years and has had his fights on live/free TV, which have pulled in the sort of numbers American networks can only dream of. This too against bums. Haye has proven his popularity and is working his wya back to a certain level of fitness.
Add to that what should be an entertaining build up with Briggs and another free showing, I don't see the problem. If fans are stupid enough to pay for tickets, so be it. Hopefully we end up with Haye/Chisora II or another genuine name on another free broadcast before he moves to Sky or Boxnation.
I still am in the minority who actually believes the best of Haye will beat most of the top heavyweights now and would probably be the top guy it weren't for his injury (say what you want, it's a legitimate injury). I don't criticise the opponents Haye has fought so far as he's on the comeback trail but I will do if he continues with his selection of lesser opponents after the Briggs fight.
I'd like to see him fight the likes of Pulev and Glazkov before getting in there with Wilder, Ortiz, Joshua and Fury.

He needs to fight an opponent full stop. Those two jokers he got in the ring with hardly merit the name of sparring partner.
I agree, he has to step up soon if he really has aspirations of winning a title again.
Didn't he name them? Briggs then that cruiser weight.
I wouldn't mind Briggs just for the entertainment factor.
Cruiserweight? Are you referring to Tony Bellew? I don't know why Tony has mentioned him. It's silly.
Put him in against Takam, Duhaupas and Ustinov. Then we'll see what's what.
He would flatten the lot of them or box circles around Ustinov and Duhaupas.
Haye is the man, I wish he'd fight someone big named by now but I'm just glad he is back doing his thing KO that fool Briggs then spark out Bellend Bellew
Yes, those are the sort of fights he needs at this point, and I think that he needs to fight at least another 2 opponents before the end of the year.

I'm not a huge fan of his, but it's great to see him back as it adds some more intrigue to a rejuvenated HW division.
I agree that he doesn't deserve criticism for his recent opponents, as he's hardly fought in the last 4 years.
I just hope he announces another opponent soon. I'd like to see him fight at least another 2 fights this year, before he thinks about stepping up for a really big fight. He needs some rounds against a top 20 HW if possible. But a lot of fights will be hard to make for obvious reasons. I watched Parker-Takam last week, and I'd like to see Haye fight a Takam like opponent towards the end of the year.

I don't think Haye is even interested in fighting Joshua now. Why would he be? He's making millions of pounds beating up doormen. He doesn't need AJ.
Haye could make a very decent living just taking on these no hopers every couple of months, but sooner or later the public (or the goons who still fall for his nonsense) will expect him to fight a live body.
The problem with Haye is that every fight he has ever been in at heavyweight, other than Wlad, has been a "tune-up".
Indeed, that's basically what i said towards the end of my post.
I understand him taking a few tuneups after being out for 3 years.
