Probably not -- there have been some truly awful champs, especially at heavyweight -- but this guy popped in my head tonight for no apparent reason, so I thought I'd see if anyone remembered him.
Long story short, he was inexplicably rewarded with title shot after title shot until he finally fought the fight of his life against a careless Anthony Mundine. Kessler destroyed him in his next fight. 25-8 (20 KOs), so he had a little pop.
Charles Martin isn't very good, I never really talked about him, but I do know that the guy who knocked him out, Anthony Joshua...is a beast, and I think we're going to see some more knock outs against top heavies from Joshua..but yeah I agree the "win" over the Ukranian guy sucked ass. All of those wins of that nature suck though, Vitali-Solis, Jacobs-Mora are a couple of other one's. Sad thing is the winner never admits that they won due to an accident, they make it out like they went super saiyin and landed some really fast unseen punch that causeda knock down
If you look at WBA wikipedia list of champions, just look for all the 'regular' champions, you'll find some good candidates there throughout the decade in every weight class
Look at Sturm, going into the Chudinov rematch he had like 2 wins in 4 years, yet still managed to get a title shot at the WBA champ and somehow won on the scorecards even though he didn't really do enough to beat the champion and some people thought it was a robbery. Now 168 has a phony 168 WBA super champ
