what do you guyses think?
if kovalev and ward were switched around (kovalev being 168 but getting closer and closer to moving up and ward were already campaigning at 175) would ggg have gone up to fight kovlaev at 168 if he called him out?
i am seriously pissed off that we will never see GGG vs kovalev in our lifetimes. that would have been a very interesting fight. i wouldn't even know who to pick.
Why can't people get over the Ward-GGG thing? Ward is set to fight Kovalev and GGG needs an opponent with pulse. Simple...done...
NO, GGG would not have moved up to fight Kovalev.
Thank you my friend. Very well said.
What timeline are you talking about? If you're talking about 2013-2014 when they badly needed opponents or a plan, then yeah, they would have fought Kovalev just like they would have fought Ward (if not for the contract/injury+the rest of the BS). If you're talking about after the whole cluster with Cotto/Lemieux/Mandatory, then no - they would not have given up a shot at that to fight a either one of em.

but kovlaev nor golovkin are friends. they may both be russian but lets be honest kovlaev is 100% russian and golovkin is mixed race and from an asian country.
Kovalev was at the Summit for a coupla years under Sanchez and the two seem to have struck up a friendship. There was a coupla photos posted a while back with the pair of them out shopping or something with Mrs G I think.
And the thread topic? Yeah, I think if the money was there they'd fight - I also think GGG would have fought Ward if the money was right - particularly if there hadn't been the prospect of a the more lucrative and (much) easier Cotto / Canelo fight mandated.

They are friends who have also sparred together, also Dirrell is black and Ward is mixed race just like Kovalev(white) and Gennady(mixed race).
Nope it would not happen like when Ward-Direll did not happen due to both guys saying that they are friends.
