Interesting article on Richard Shaefer's plan to return to boxing as a promoter in the summer.
"I want to fulfill my vision for the sport," Schaefer said in a phone interview. "And I was thinking, at one point, to maybe get involved in the management side of the sport. But I'm still most excited about the promotional side, and so it just excites me more, and I think there's a void and a need."
"As you heard from Floyd before, Floyd would like to work with me again and I would like to work with him again," Schaefer told ******.com. "And so we are very close friends and we respect each other."
"I'm working on a rather large project, which I think will be tremendous for the sport and with another group so I want to do things right," said Schaefer, who plans to announce his next endeavor in a matter of weeks. "When I do announce that I'm coming back, it's not just going to be ‘Richard Schaefer-this and Richard Schaefer-that.' It's going to be a major announcement."
With him being close with both Haymon and Mayweather, it makes you wonder if he'll be joining forces with Mayweather Promotions? Or maybe something to do with PBC or Haymon Sports LLC? But then again Haymon does do business with a lot of other promoters. There's also the chance that Schaefer could make his own promotion company.
He'll join the company where he'll be treated with welcoming arms and that's MWP.
He did do a good job while he was at Golden Boy though.
#Oscarsrepetitivelines.
The only folks who view Haymon as "sneaky" are Bob Arum(with all of his history of doubledealings), Oscar De la Hoya(who's on the verge of paying out a massive check to All-Star Boxing for his shoddy business practices), Kathy Duva (ie the Kovalev-Stevenson fiasco), and HBO(whose prime beef with Haymon seeming to be a refusal to consider market value for fights; having Hauser and Steve Kim on their hit squad doesn't help their image either).
Richard Schaefer seemed to have left boxing with friendly relationships with all objective and quasi-objective parties that cover boxing.
LOL! Do you actually believe that statement?
Schaefer is a snake in the grass!
Haymon is alright but when I see a fight I prefer an E Ticket fight.
Haymon usually gives us a B or C..........rarely we get a D Ticket!
Him being the face of PBC as suggested would be great too. A lot of people view Haymon as sneaky and in the shadows but Schaefer could be that friendly face that helps bring more business.

Haymon not talking to the press doesn't help things, but you've got to consider the actual people trashing him.

who cares? this guy is a snake. he basically took oscar's golden boy promotions and forced him out by either selling it to haymon and himself or by forfeiting all of his fighters to him. i wouldn't mind if this guy got hurt physically.
Agree. I had a hard time seeing Ellerbe getting kicked to the curb before, but Slick Ricky seems to be talking about bigger things than running Mayweather Promotions so I really doubt thats a possibility now. And seems like Floyd has even taken it more upon himself to get into the promoter game more. Can't have Leonard, Floyd & Ricky all bumping heads running Mayweather Promotions.
Leonard breathing a sigh of relief while thinking about taking that ass beating from James Prince's thugs was worth it ultimately. I mean you can't fire a guy who's taken a beating for you.
^^^this, tbh
people hate on Leonard but, Maidana fiasco aside, he's done a pretty good job as the day-to-day operator of Mayweather Promotions for Floyd.

Lmfao I've heard rumors that Floyd was supposed to taken the beating but someone else actually took it for Floyd. Was said that Floyd was scared as **** too, but didn't think it could've been Ellerbe then again the man is a bit too fond of Floyd.
True and true but Richard doesn't seem like the man that likes to be totally in the background. I think he does what he loves which is talk crazy stuff, hype fights, make solid fights happen and make a load of money.
I think he's a slimey one he is,I could see him doing what he did to Oscar to other small promoters with promising fighters.
If people put emotions to the side, they'll come to their senses and see that what happened between Oscar and Richard is something that happens in business often. Oscar may feel slighted but I don't see anything Schafer did that was slimy.
Anyway, yeah if he comes back it'll be as head of PBC probably.
I tend to agree. He doesn't have to join Mayweather Promotions to make money with them. They can make money co-promoting or some other joint venture. But then I have to ask if he is going to come back with his own promotional company..who's in his stable? He'll promote alright but I think he comes back with a lofty, lofty position.

Schaefer operating as the "Dana White" for PBC, largely being the unifying public face to the media for the operation, is a fa bigger platform than leading Mayweather Promotions or even setting out on building his own promotional company.
Schaefer's best attribute was that he was a guy that folks 1)liked doing business with and 2)trusted to do business right; there's a reason why AEG, the financial backers, Mayweather, FS1, and even Espinoza, among others, jumped ship when Oscar forced Schaefer out.
Yep, sure seems like it.

I think he creates his own thing and still works with Mayweather and Haymon plus others but is basically another plant in Haymon's PBC operations.
He gave us the best card in 2013 and other good matches while Oscar was coked up on fishscale.

Schaefer built GBP from the ground up, according to Floyd. No reason why he can't do the same thing with Mayweather Promotions, which is owned by another successful boxer.
Fans have nothing to lose on this. Can't wait doe.
Only issue with that is, say what you want about the man, Leonard Ellerbe has done a really good job as the day-to-day operator for Mayweather Promotions. Schaefer obviously comes to the table with a bigger track record, but I don't see the logic, on either side, of pushing Ellerbe out of his position.

That sound bigger than Mayweather Promotions to me. I'd assume this is PBC related or some other entity. Maybe they firing Stephen Espinoza finally & Schaefer will be running Showtime boxing.
