Does Canelo vs GGG happen this year?

Canelo isn't a 4 to 1 underdog because he is so bad. He is a big underdog because GGG is so good. My guess is any middleweight fighting today would be an even bigger underdog than 4 to 1 if they were fighting GGG. Canelo's power didn't seem overrated when he landed that lightning bolt right hand that almost knocked Khan's head off and left him for dead. He finished Kirkland the same way. Canelo has fought his way onto most top ten pound for pound lists. He can fight and he can punch very hard with both hands. He doesn't punch as hard as GGG but nobody else does either. GGG is a good fighter but Canelo being a big underdog has more to do with him being a super welterweight that's taking on a middleweight.

I didn't mean to imply Canelo is a poor fighter, but he is overrated. Judging his punching power based off Khan is straight out laughable. Kirkland was floored 3x by Ishida, and the version Alvarez fought was completely shot. Kirkland had been out of the ring over a year and ballooned up over 200lbs. Alvarez didn't come close to do doing to Cotto what Margarito or Pacquiao did.

All time great fighters are calling out Canelo on ESPN Deportes etc. There's no way it doesn't happen in September and Canelo keeps his pride intact. He has to fight the guy or suffer lowering PPV numbers. He doesn't have "credibility" according to JMM, Chavez Sr. and the gang.

If they stall and don't fight him next Canelo forfeits his WBC world title and then GGG no longer needs to fight him at all. Stalling GGG would leave Canelo with no title and no GGG fight ever. You say by late 2017 GGG will be even older and more deteriorated. GGG isn't that old and he has shown zero signs of deterioration. On the contrary he looked even better and more dangerous and powerful than ever in KOing Lemieux in 7 rounds and Wade in 2 rounds. He will be the same great fighter in 2017 that he is now. I think Oscar might not want Canelo to fight GGG but Canelo has pride. I think he will tell Oscar he is fighting GGG next. We should know in a few days. The 15 day deadline to agree to fight GGG next will be over this coming Monday. Then Golden Boy will have to sh*t or get off the WBC title pot.

As long a GGG is destroying his opponents and looking like a dangerous fighter Canelo and Golden Boy will continue to avoid him. They will wait til Golovkin is older and even then they will try to drain him and attempt to get every conceivable advantage when they meet in the ring....IF they ever meet in the ring. Boxing is more of a business than a sport...unfortunately for us boxing fans.

Not likely, but next year for sure. I guess there is a possiblity this year but only because Canelo seems very cognizant of how the public feels and I don't think he will let Oscar hold off for too long. He seemed pretty sick of the talk in moments right after Khan so we'll see. 2 more fights at the max starting with Lemieux or Stevens. Not sure who GGG could fight, one would have to be a legit fight-maybe even for that stripped belt...and then the other one to get his name exposed more in Mexico....probably Margarito as the fight before Canelo.

I responded before I read your comment. I haven't read that story yet but I think that'll happen. They're going to try and sell it as "We're doing the same thing Ward and Kovalev are doing" We'll see. the article mentioned Canelo fighting Leimuex or Curtis Stevens next and GGG fighting Jacobs. I don't really care for the Leimuex or Stevens fights but GGG vs Jacobs is an interesting fight to me. Its also a tougher fight for GGG than either fight mentioned for Canelo IMO. I would like to see Canelo and GGG fight next but I doubt it happens.

I just read on fight news that GBP is trying to negotiate 2 to 3 interm fights for both fighters to allow the fight to build so they can make more money down the line when they fight. I guess its going to be up to K2 to agree or not and that will determine when or if this fight happens.
